  • I thought it would be good for everyone to check in and say what state they were from in light of the question above. I am from Omaha, Nebraska.
  • So I have been on the program for 8 weeks. I stopped using the shaker they gave us and only use a blender with extra ice now for all my drinks. So much better consistency. My favorites are: Chocolate pudding made as a shake with 1 cup ice and water to make 2 cups total before adding the mix. Vanilla pudding made as a shake…
  • Maral ---- That is very interesting. I just re-read the other comments above and our clinic doesn't want us to exercise either. They gave us a band to work on resistance training 3 times a week to maintain muscle but they NEVER ask if we are doing it and they always discourage exercise and just say "let the diet do the…
  • Kate---Blending the shakes are the only way to go! Nice little blender. If my Oster blender dies I'll look at the Toastmaster! I found the Pineapple-Apricot gets really frothy. I really like the Chocolate and Vanilla (mixed at times with flavorings and spices for variety) as puddings but made into shakes. I have tried the…
  • That's great Maral! You should order the fat analyzer I spoke of below. Easy way to track if you are burning muscle or fat. I think I read somewhere that it's typical to lose about 15% muscle when losing weight. Has anyone been told anything about that? I am going to ask at my meeting next week. I agree with your doctor.…
  • Hi pweiss79 Glad you found us! Once you and Kate start there will be more of us now. Our clinic doesn't want us to truly exercise yet but we were each given an orange stretch band with an instruction sheet to tone 10-20 minutes a session 2-3 x week. This is to get us in the habit of exercising and as we get closer to our…
  • Thanks Kate! I lost another 4 pounds this past week. Down 31 after 6 weeks!
  • Glad you posted here. Congratulations on your progress so far! That is wonderful that your blood sugar numbers are doing so well. Keep it up!
  • Hi Sue! Sorry it's taken me a month to get back on here! I log my intake and weight on MFP but forgot to check back in with this group! Congrats on your weight loss! That is quite an accomplishment! I have about the same weight loss goal as you, about 120 pounds. I am not 100% sure about my goal since like you it's been a…
  • Hi marallewis! Congrats on your weight loss! I am 31 days in, down 27 pounds on 4 replacements/day (that is our clinic's guideline but I get behind sometimes, especially if I sleep in later (I am an RN and work different shifts) then I have 3. I have more of a savory-salty tooth than a sweet tooth so I've been craving more…
  • Hi Everyone! I have been logging my shakes and waters in but then I forget to check the group messages! I started June 15th on the full meal replacement plan. After 5 weeks I have lost 27 pounds! Yeah! I am not 100% sure what my goal will be since I have been overweight so long I am not sure how I will feel. Going by the…
  • How's everyone doing since this thread is over 6 months old now?
  • As a beginner these tips give me hope that I won't be so bored doing this program! I have copied them to a Word document. Thanks!
  • These ideas are so helpful! I am going to try so many of them! Thanks! If I find the Torani locally at a chain store I will let the group know.
  • I just started New Direction and catching up on the discussions on this group. I know it's been 6 months since anyone posted here. One of the reasons I chose ND is because previously I had lost weight using the EAS powdered shakes along with a meal. In many ways it was easier to just drink a shake! I just felt I needed the…
  • I just started New Direction and looked around MFP for a support group in addition to the in person group at the hospital. I know this is an older discussion but thought I could try to get the group discussions going again. How are things going for you yellowdaisy3.., amyc2912 and 110toLose?
  • I just started New Direction and looked around MFP for a support group in addition to the in person group at the hospital. How are things going for you dan_IRL?
  • I just read the MFP's posting guidelines and since the New Directions program is proven safe (after decades of use in hospitals) and medically supervised it would not meet this criteria. Someone posted this thread had been approved by moderators March 8th. I think our own group would be more appropriate rather than on the…
  • I'm new to the "community" on MFP so I am in unchartered waters here. I was just looking to join with others who were doing the medically supervised New Directions plan. Maybe there's another place on here where I can go? Someone who had a history of anorexia wouldn't be approved for the program. I could see it being a…
  • Yes it does after the rapid reducing phase. During the adapting phase you use less New Direction products and add more food to your daily diet. In the sustaining phase you eat regular foods and continue practicing your new lifestyle and weight management skills under the guidance of the New Direction support staff. Julie
  • Sorry I am just seeing "snickerscharles" comment. Like "locoannie" said New Directions is a medically supervised low calorie diet but I appreciate your concern. Most of the time your body uses glucose from carbohydrates in your diet for energy. With this very low calorie diet your body starts burning fat as another source…
  • I just had my medical clearance appointment and will have my EKG and blood drawn soon before I can start. I would enjoy having MFP group to go along with the weekly meetings I will be attending. I want to lose 130 pounds so I will be at this for awhile. I plan to do the VLCD using 100% meal replacements. How is everyone…
