An occasional frozen meal isn't going to hurt you. I always keep two or three in my freezer for those days where I absolutely feel like doing nothing in the kitchen and have no leftovers. I lost my first 55 pounds by eating frozen meals for lunch--mainly Amy's Organic meals, not because they are organic but because I don't…

I'm a vegetarian, so I eat a lot of carbs--tons of veggies, some fruit and beans, and occasionally whole wheat pastas and grains. Doing this I've lost 93 pounds, so it's working for me!

Had to laugh--I started doing yoga at about 230, and now I'm at 197, but I still find myself "tipping over" some days! That's the way it goes. Yoga has been marvelous for my posture and flexibility. It's really improved how I sit at work and at the dinner table; if I slouch or droop I get very sore quickly and find myself…

Walking is fantastic! When I started losing weight, walking was pretty much the only exercise I was doing, as I have had previous injuries to my hips. Plus, I weighed 290, and walking was about all I could do at the time! Now I do a lot of different exercises--yoga, jogging, weight lifting, cycling, and swimming--but I…

I have a desk job and since I've started working out, I find I don't like sitting for long stretches. I try to get up at least every hour and take a lap or two around my office, and do lots of stretching. I also always bring my lunch and do my best to stay away from candy bowls.

I'm constantly touching myself! (Not in that way.) I've been fat my whole life, and I'm still obese, but I've lost more than 90 pounds and cannot believe how much my body shape has changed. My chin has sharpened and my elbows are all pointy. I can get my fingers around my wrists. When I'm doing yoga and we're doing balance…

Could it just be a force of habit? For a long time my habit was that every day when I got home from work at 4 pm, I would immediately snack on junk food until I made dinner. Now, my habit is that when I get home at 4, I immediately change into my workout clothes and go to the gym. HOWEVER I still feel that immediate pull…

I can completely relate to being nervous about weighing in! I sometimes feel a lot of anxiety about it, even if I feel like I've had a good week of proper eating and strong workouts. I recently passed a big milestone and got into Onederland--but I was sick with anxiety weighing in! I had seen 200.0 on the scale the…

Congrats on your successful weight loss! For a while I weighed once a week, then daily for a couple months. I found that I started to get really anxious and obsessive about the scale and started weighing multiple times a day. When I realized that I was starting to get too upset about that number, I returned to once a week.…

I made a FAB side dish with sweet potatoes this weekend! Peel three sweet potatoes and slice them thinly, about 1/8 inch each. Mix up your spices--1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, and just a pinch of garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and cracked pepper. Drizzle olive oil over the potatoes and…

Wow, what a great difference! Congratulations!

I'm in the same boat! I've "gained" 5.6 pounds since my last weigh-in a week ago. It's probably entirely water, as I ate way too much salty foods that I normally don't eat in that week: Chinese food, some chips and crackers, and a buffet with a friend where, as I was eating, I kept thinking "Wow this food is very, very…

I agree it can be so hard to keep focused and motivated while you are on your way to your goal weight. For me, it has been important to remember that I need to LIVE while I lose weight. I've lost 85 pounds, a very impressive amount--yet still have at least 70 more to go. Some days I just get so frustrated and start…

Man I LOVE pineapple in my smoothies. It's so delicious. I use a bunch of different frozen fruit--mangoes, mixed berries, peaches, whatever I find at the store. A banana and greek yogurt make them creamy. I use kale in my morning smoothies, since I usually have a salad of spinach and arugula for lunch. The suggestion for…

I do an hour Monday through Thursday (plus yoga on Wednesdays); weekends vary. Sometimes I'm out in DC browsing the zoo or museums or sight-seeing. If the weather's crappy or I don't feel like going out, I'll do about 90 minutes Saturday and Sunday (I almost always do yoga on the weekends as well). In the summer I'm almost…

I also tend to do this, with some variation on the weekends. During the week it's just a lot easier to eat the same thing. Homemade smoothie for breakfast; fruit and salad for lunch; and a homemade meal with fruit, occasionally extra veg, and a sweet treat for dinner. I'm single, and it's very difficult to make a single…

I'm in the same boat! I recently added light jogging to my walks (I too enjoy long walks) and wow, I can feel a difference, not just physically, but also psychologically. Never thought I'd be running again! And I was surprised at how not challenging it was; I was in better shape than I thought!

I'm a huge fan of Pollan too, I think he's great. I read Lustig's "Fat Chance" and Taubes' "Good Calories and Bad Calories" and "Why We Get Fat". I liked these books and think they made a lot of sense--but I see a lot of anti-Lustig sentiment on these boards. Can someone recommend a book that gives an alternate view to…

I prefer the M&Ms with peanut butter in them, the ones in the red bag. My god I could eat a pound of those. My biggest weakness though is chips. I can easily devour a family-size bag of sour cream and onion chips on the car ride from store to home (and have done so, sadly).

I tend to have binges triggered by stress, and yesterday I had a very stressful day. All I wanted to do was go to the 7-11, buy tons of snacks, eat them all, and go to bed. But, I talked it out, literally, as I drove home. "Why do you want to eat? Are you hungry? No, you're stressed, because of XXXX. You want to eat for…

Homemade vegetarian lasagna, green beans, grapes, and a little sugar-free jello for dessert!

This is something I really struggle with at my office. I started a new job in February, and my new office is very food-friendly, and we often have donuts, cakes, cookies, potlucks, etc. I'm especially worried about the upcoming holiday season--apparently from Halloween until New Year's it's non-stop eating, with baking…

Sounds like you're doing quite well! I've lost 84 pounds (and still need to lose at least another 80), and from my experience, the first 55 or so melted off. I was losing about 12 pounds a month. After a few months, that slowed down considerably. So, I would say, expect to lose quite quickly in the beginning, then have it…

I try hard not to drink my calories. I'm not really a soda junkie, thankfully, so it isn't hard to stick to water. However, I do LOVE milkshakes, but I try extremely hard not to have them. I can't justify all those calories from just a drink!

I drink somewhere around 9 to 10 cups a day, more when it's really hot out. Maybe that's why I tend to crave salty stuff, not sweet.

Oh man, I've got a GREAT beans and rice recipe. It's a knock off of a frozen meal, Santa Fe Beans and Rice. 1.5 cups brown rice 1.5 cup black beans 1.75 cups diced tomatoes (I use fire-roasted) 1 container pico de gallo (hot or mild, your choice) 1 red onion, chopped 2 spoonfuls of taco seasoning (I get the Trader Joe's…

Preach! I love pizza, it's one of my favorite foods. I've reduced how often I have it, but I still enjoy it once or twice a month. When I do, I go to a local pizzeria and get their Garden pie: a 10-inch cheese pizza topped with arugula, spinach, onions, and bell peppers. It's practically a salad on a pizza, so I don't have…

Happy to see this post! After juggling the same two pounds for about a month for a net loss of zero, I finally lost a big 2.5 pounds this week! It's always reassuring when you hear that others have gone through stalls and long periods of struggle. I WILL be patient, and I WILL persevere!

Beans, if you can stomach them! I'm a vegetarian so I have a lot of recipes that utilize beans--black beans, pinto beans, red beans, whatever. Soups and stews, chilis, rice and beans, beans in salad, baked beans, all sorts of goodies. Also, I like those Fiber One cookies; it gives me a little dessert with about 5 grams of…

Wrists! And then definitely belly, because I used to have my belly rest up against the steering wheel in the car, and now I'm several inches away from it, so I've definitely shrunk in belly and back. Seen a big change in my calves and ankles too.
