  • Hi cbrainnerd809, ohh yes. The mind is a very powerful foe. I'm talking from experience in other areas of my life. Congratulations on your first step in the healthy direction! you have identified your issues, and that takes courage. Now, for the next step: repair the damage, and become healthy. I myself have never worked…

  • Congratulations on your first step. Commitment is very important in weight loss. Your target seems to be perfectly doable, so go for it!
  • Hi David, Welcome to the journey of weight loss.
  • Hi Mely, I'd prefer that you'd 'get fit'. You have a good attitude, and an achievable goal. Just keep loosing a little bit of weight each day. In the near future the small pieces will add up.
  • Hi, I am actually on 1610 calories / day, but on average I add 150 from general moving around the office. I am beginning to see a loss in weight.
  • Hi Delores, congratulations on your first step to a healthier lifestyle!

  • Hi Sheria, welcome tho My Fitness Pal (MFP). Everybody is different, and that makes the world an interesting place. Every person here has different goals, and different circumstances. I am seeing results after a short month, by sticking to my calorie budget and doing some light exercise like walking. I am sure that you…

  • Hi Daniel, Go for it! leave the 100 lbs behind!
  • Hi Chloe, I've been here for a month, and I am beginning to see results. Weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. What works for me, is sticking to the 'calorie budget' suggested by this site. Throw in little bit of your favourite exercise (mine is walking and hiking) and you are on your way (pardon the pun) to a new you.
  • Hi Lynn, you have taken the first step on you journey to a better you. This shows that you have the will power to carry on. Do little bit at a time. If you follow the recommendations and suggestions from this site, you will lose those kilograms and pounds. We are all here for the same reason. You are not alone.
  • Yes it is. My Garmin watch got me here. I am using it to track my activity levels.
  • I'm proud of keeping to the calorie targets of this site, and it is showing up on the scale. Today I downsized a pizza for one. I usually have a large, but today I had a medium. A quick mental calculation shows that the small pizza (24cm vs 30cm) has only 64% of the calories of the big pizza.
  • Yeah, we all wish we could have a magic wand that fixes all our problems in life. I enjoy walking, and that is my primary method of exercise. Courtesy of this site, I monitor my eating habits. After a month of being on this site, I can see a small drop in my weight. The magic wand is consistency.
  • I have the Garmin Fenix 3. It is a fully fledged GPS smartwatch. Great on hikes and outdoor activities. Barometric altimeter measures elevation changes in 1m increments. The calories from activities can be uploaded to MFP. My overall rating is about 8/10.
  • You have taken the first step to a new you by joining this site. The journey of 1000 little steps has begun. You got this site to reach out for support. The motivation is your new slimmer body.
  • Wow, what a powerful story. Two years ago, I twisted my ankle and got gout. I didn't start taking care of my body until two months ago... We are all here on the same journey. We are not alone, we have the support and encouragement of all the MFP members.
  • Beautiful... you are making me jealous, and yearning for a hike in the African Bush (which is a half an hour drive from home)
  • Cheat days every Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday its a take-away pizza. Fridays its usually a Falafel shwarma. Daily bread is one of my more expensive (calorie wise) food items. Anything sweet or salty that I can hide in my office draw...
  • Don't loose hope. Keep on going. Keep a steady pace; eventually your scale will tell you the good news.
  • Welcome back! sorry to hear about your illness. Enjoy the journey to a better new you.
  • Welcome to MyFitnessPal!

  • Those adverts pay for us to use this site for free. I also get local (South African) pizza adverts on my site. Unfortunately that's how the world works today. Just laugh at the irony of advertising junk food on a weight-loss website. If you can't afford it (calorie wise) then don't buy it. They can advertise as much as…
  • Hello, welcome to MFP. Make friends, and enjoy the journey to a new you.
  • Yes, similar position. I'm 36 and I'd like to do a serious hike by the time I'm 40. I'm trying to loose weight and gain stamina. The proposed hike would be 8 hour round trip of about 10km (6mi) at high altitude.
  • I can offer support. Support does wonders in reaching your targets. We are all in the same boat; might just as well 'row' together.
  • I would agree with the advice of shell1005. Log consistently. I don't worry if I go over your 'calorie budget'. It is there as a guideline. It is there to see what foods are 'calorie expensive'. You need more than one sample of weight to see progress. Keep on going, keep on recording. Review the results in a few months.…
  • Daily. I'm beginning to see a trend in the fluctuations. My fluctuations show a slight increase on work-days, and it drops again over the weekend. This shows me that I'm finely balanced (please pardon the pun). Any disturbance shows up only a few days later on the scale... I noticed that recently, and am watching out for…
  • My progress is also rather slow. I work long hours in an office (I.T. programmer), and I don't get much exercise during the week. My calories are usually around the 'allowance' mark though. My exercise regime involves two 2km walks on Saturday and Sunday around the neighborhood. Sometimes I do like to treat myself to a…
  • Log everyday, open food diary. Feel free to add me.
