  • Ha! I just treated myself for the first time last night... AMC small movie popcorn - no butter - pretty satisfying and 370 cals. For dinner I did light sushi which is by nature, fewer calories... Gotta work around these things! Enjoy - YOLO R
  • Another late 40's male here... quite frankly, the MFP calorie calculation could be wrong. If you are stuffed, stop eating. My requirements are MUCH lower because of my age and also because my job is sedentary. If you are not losing weight following MFP, you need to back it down. Follow your body, though... R
  • Google for the "get drunk not fat" site... :-) Best drinks that are low in calories in general would be something like vodka / soda or mixed drinks with diet soda. I have noticed quite a few drinks here in the database of MFP! R
  • This is all assuming that MFP 1) calculates your BMR correctly and 2) that we record correctly and 3) that exercise is correctly accounted for. I think and 1 and 3 are pretty tough to assure. I am "cheating" myself of nutrition and eating less than 1500 and I am losing weight at the perfect 2 pounds per week (slightly…
  • Mini wheat bagel and strawberry preserves. No fat before workout! During the workout I sip a water mixed protein drink - only about 20 grams worth. Of course, strong coffee too! I wake at 5:15am - in the gym by 6:30am. R
  • So now the next question...did the waxing hurt to take off all the hair? How often do you do it? R
  • I think the conclusion here should be that everyone is different. You have to listen to your body... for an older guy like me with a sedentary job, 1200 is working. I feel great, losing weight at not quite 2 lbs per week, good workouts, sleep, etc. The moment I feel deprived I promise to change it up and add calories. R
  • So I am an unusual example. 48 yo male, starting weight 258. Current weight 241 - 8 weeks into program. I am doing 1200-1300 per day - and that is NOT net - that is total. I am working out every other day - cardio and weightlifting. I weigh everything I eat on a digital scale. Everyone's metabolism is different. I felt…
  • You should target up to ~2 lbs of weight loss per week... whatever that takes from a calorie / exercise regimen. Everyone is different. You also need time to recover and rest. R
  • It is a combination of things like everyone has said... cultural pressure not to talk about weight, clothes, how you lose, etc. However, if you dress differently, people will notice. I wore a polo shirt tucked in (I used to leave them out) and people said something. When you are ready to show off, go ahead... :-) R
  • New Balance 928 Seriously...do some research. This is one of the best walking shoes, ever. R
  • Listen to your body! You don't grow in the gym! R
  • Opinions on this do not matter. Only your cholesterol levels and total fat intake matter. Luckily, both are measurable. Enjoy if it works for your body. R

  • Could be a bunch of things, but I would a) get your testosterone checked, b) consider easing up on the weight and/or getting more rest in-between workouts, c) reconsider the kinds of protein you eat and the timing with the workouts. Too hard from this info to pinpoint it. Also, are you on any meds that could impact muscles…
  • It seems like you are being too impatient. Share your diary, make some friends - eat healthy and **exercise**. Try following the My fitness Pal recommendations for calorie intake and log it all. Be consistent AND patient. Eat healthy and clean... lower carbs and higher protein. There are certain rules of the universe and…
  • For me, light carbs pre work out, then easy to digest protein and carbs post workout. This is the most common recommendation. I eat a mini bagel with some strawberry preserves and coffee pre workout. Protein shake with banana and honey post workout. R
  • Since you are diabetic, you should be under the care of a physician, on meds, and be advised by a dietitian. You should not be simply going low carb, my friend. From a type II diabetic, R
  • 48 here. 30 mins of elliptical to start (always) - then go to full body work out - 3 sets of 10 for each body part (~60 mins). I do this every other day as I need 48 hours to recover. Sometimes on alternate days I just do 30 mins of cardio / elliptical. For me, the days of working on body parts on different days of the…
  • I think your depression and self esteem issues are getting in your way. You are motivated for the wrong reasons - you need to want to be healthy and happy. 20 pounds is not going to change your life. Sorry to get too deep her, but you need to eat right and exercise because it is good for you and feels good. Try to find an…
  • One other idea...try different bicep exercises. Your accessory muscles may not be getting the proper attention which is why you can't advance on the simple bicep movements; hammer curls, preacher curls, reverse bar curls (palms facing down), wrist curls. R
  • Machines are fine. Of course it also depends on your goals. You can do some free weight excercises without going to heavy... no need for a partner unless you are going to exhaustion or really heavy. Try to work in some dumbells for arms (bis tris and shoulders), and light barbell work for bench pressing. Squats are good…
  • Well, something is not right... either you are going to heavy, your diet is way off, or you have a physical problem that you need to see a medical doctor about. Not sure what your workouts are, but in general, you should be able to to a set of 10 of anything with some difficulty on the 8-10th reps - and do three sets. I am…

  • When building muscle, you have to go by body fat % measurements and other physical measurements (waist, neck, etc.) to measure progress. At some point you will plateau on the muscle building and then you may see fat loss. Hard to gain muscle weight AND lose fat at the same time but it can be done when you first start. R
  • I love Isopure Zero Carb.... try Vanilla mixed with milk, a banana and honey. Add a tablespoon of peanut butter if you like. R
