  • That's a 50% increase...you should feel accomplished!
  • I finally invested in a properly fitted bra. Lost about 30 pounds since my last off-the-rack bra purchase at a discount store. This time I went to Nordstrom's lingerie, was properly fitted, shocked at the unexpected size difference, and SO pleased with the results. Look and feel 10 years younger and 10 pounds lighter, just…
  • When I was trying to eliminate sweet tea or pop, I mixed unsweetened & sweet tea (or diet & regular pop) together, in increasing proportions, until I got used to the unsweet taste. Now the full-sweet stuff makes me gag!
  • * My weight loss has slowed down over the past few months (because of a temporarily crazy busy schedule, I slightly upped my cals so I wouldn't get too stressed out) - but I still lost an inch off my waist & about an inch & a half off my hips * Logged for 260 days, and I'm enjoying g every day and eating some fabulous food!
  • I had a total hip replacement about 18 months ago, and the pre-surgical time was my impetus to begin to lose weight and eat healthy. I wanted to go into the surgery at the best possible weight & health I could, because I figured it would be difficult hauling around all that extra weight with only one working leg. I managed…
  • As you have already realized, if you pre-plan your meals, it takes the stress and the not-knowing out of the equation. It doesn't have to be planned down to the last detail - I just go over the coming day or week in my head and think about what is available and then make a loose plan based on that. I keep snacks on hand…
  • Wow, congratulations on the awesome job you have done so far! Not just the weight loss, but the total lifestyle change. What an inspiration you are! It could be that (like me) the abdominal/thigh area is the last to lose the fat. I found that my weight loss has slowed significantly lately BUT I am still changing shape and…
  • As long as you are eating a reasonable amount of calories for your height & weight, and a variety of nutritious foods, and not always complaining about being "on a diet", it shouldn't really be a concern for him. Maybe if you show him your food diary, calories and macros, and tell him you are budgeting your calories like…
  • Wow, I love this concept! Thanks for sharing that!
  • For the first 20 pound loss, it was steady falling off at 1 lb/week. Lately I seem to cycle between weeks where the scale goes down, and weeks where the scale doesn't move much but my measurements go down. So either way, I am happy and encouraged to keep going. Even if you have a plateau, keep going, don't give up!
  • The best way IS counting calories. Weigh and measure your food, eat a balanced diet, log accurately into MFP, and stick to a healthy deficit. It works.
  • Has she had a recent physical with blood tests for thyroid, vitamin D, anemia, female hormones, etc? Just wondering if there may a physical condition contributing to her lethargy. I can sympathize with your situation because I have 2 friends always moaning about weight and being out of shape, but they do absolutely nothing…
  • My sister always shops at the consignment shops in the upscale neighborhoods of her city...lots of really nice designer label clothing for decent prices, and lots with tags still on or worn only a few times. It's too far for me to travel, so I content myself with my small-town thrift stores and the more middle-class…
  • I agree with above posters, if it's too overwhelming or labor intensive to keep everything balanced at once, just concentrate on your calorie goal at first, until that becomes second nature. Then start to balance out your macros (protein, carb & fat percentages). It may be easier to do that on a weekly basis instead of…
  • You definitely do not need to restrict your meal plan so drastically. As long as you are weighing your food, logging it accurately, and staying at your correct calorie goal, you will lose over time. Most likely the new scale weighs slightly differently or you are retaining a little water. But you're going to burn out on…
  • Go to the gym 3x/wk for 1 hr instead of 4x for 45 minutes. Then use the 4th day to get home earlier & do your shopping. That leaves the weekend to food prep & spend family/boyfriend/me time. You'll only miss out on 15 mins exercise, which could easily be made up by a short walk or some other weekend activity. Or, depending…
  • I've been stuck at home since Friday due to the blizzard & waiting to get plowed out from under 3-4 foot drifts. I was proud of myself for pre-cooking some good healthy meals and having lower-cal snacks on hand, because I knew with the extra exertion of shoveling (and shoveling and shoveling!) and trekking through the snow…
  • I am a late-night snacker, so I just go a little easier during the day and leave calories available in the evening. Popcorn is great 'cause it's filling & not too calorific if I don't put additional butter on it. Also, can you "bank" some extra calories while he is away, and spend them when he is home? You don't need to…
  • I think the type of rice is the least of your problems. 3 plates of any kind of fried rice is the problem.
  • Popcorn always fills me up & has that satisfying texture & volume. After a very lightweight dinner, you probably just need to eat SOMETHING. You sound "hangry"! Just don't go hog-wild & you'll be fine with a moderate snack.
  • If the snow in TN isn't giving you a good enough workout, I have 4' drifts in my driveway here in PA that you are welcome to shovel! I've had enough cardio & strength workouts in the last 3 days to last me til June! Hopefully the guy with the front end loader will be here by Tuesday to dig me out.
  • Also take body measurements; it's possible your are not losing pounds but are losing inches. Otherwise, make sure your logging is accurate, make sure you are at an appropriate calorie defitcit, and wait a while longer.
  • A lot of people who do very restrictive diets seem to end up very gaunt and grey-complected. I believe that a good dietary balance, with plenty of protein and healthy fats, and plenty of water, keeps the complexion looking fresh and lively. And of couse, stay as active as possible to keep a good muscle base under the skin…
  • It is slow, but it is steady. I figured I could do this two ways: either lose 8 pounds quickly, then gain 5 back, lose 2, gain 3, lose 0, gain 2...for a net loss of zero...or I could lose 1 pound at a time for a net loss of about 15 over the exact same time period. I'm not frustrated, I'm very happy. But I don't…
  • I keep a casual eye on my macros, and as another poster mentioned, if you just shoot for the protein, everything else falls into place. However, sometimes I have a carb-heavy day due to cravings or schedule, and instead of trying to balance everything out on the same day, I simply make the next day a high-protein day. By…
  • I agree with @lynn_glenmont - I ate at maintenance when recovering from surgery, and between the extra demands on my body for the healing process, and the extra physical effort to get around and rebuild muscles affected by surgery/post-surgical inactivity, I still ended up losing a few pounds. (Don't be discouraged by any…
  • Yay! You worked hard to fight your way back from the injuries. Congrats!
  • I love my Fitbit Flex! I'm not able to exercise vigorously or for long periods of time, so every step counts. It keeps me motivated to move more, gives me a sense of accomplishment to see the steps add up, and also made me realize I was not getting nearly enough quality sleep. In addition to being able to check my progess…
  • I had a PT apply it for an Achilles problem, and, being skeptical, I kinda rolled my eyes when she brought the tape out. Boy, was I wrong. The effect was immediate. It wasn't a cure, but rather was used in conjunction with physical therapy to focus on training the proper muscles rather than compensating with the wrong…
