Allie No, thankfully, I didn't have to deal with a reverse mortgage. But if the court grants you some additional time, then it might be an option for a quick cash turnaround and they pay off the reverse mortgage and you are done with it. Of course, you also have your brother in the mix and he may still want to try to…

Allie I recently sold my house to one of those "We buy houses for cash" places (a company called Integrity, they might not operate outside of PA, but I'm sure there are similar in your area). I got a very fair price, no inspection or formal appraisal needed, no realtor fees, cash settlement possible within 7 days, and no…

Machka, wonderful news about your husband!! Have any of you ladies had the 3D mammogram? My understanding is that the 3D is about the same compression, but you have to tolerate it for about 10 minutes. Due to tissue density & a prppensity for cysts, a regular mammo is already pretty agonizing...not sure if I could tolerate…

Lenora Good to hear from you again, we were getting worried about you! Pip The wooden bike is GORGEOUS!! Barbie Hilarious re: Jake waiting for approval to wash dishes :D Machka Praying for you and your husband. I see you in my mind on one of your long, long bike rides, powering up the endless hills, enduring through the…

Felicia, I had 2 co-workers who went temorarily blind, or had visual disturbances similar to yours. One woke up blind like you did, had his wife take him immediately to the ER and it turned out to be the first manifestation of severe diabetes. The other had an episode mid-day, went to ophthalmologist, who found nothing.…

Becca, Becca, Becca! You have a family of ELEVEN down the street! Ask them to give you a few hours work on moving day and bake them something wonderful in exchange. Use your resources, girl! Even young children can carry the lighter miscellaneous stuff or can be in charge of handing out cups of water or snacks to the ones…

Elvis is on the left (a Barred Rock), Cogburn on the right (Rhode Island Red), when they were still young. Elvis grew to be pretty large, but Cogburn eventually grew to be fully half again as large as Elvis.

Becca - the chicken quilt you posted made me miss my chickens. Used to have about 26 hens and 2 roosters (Elvis and Rooster Cogburn). The roosters were raised together and got along great. Cogburn would perch on my forearm and eat out of my hand. The hens would jump on my lap or shoulder. Eventually Cogburn got so huge, he…

Heather - your prospective home is wonderful! Love the expansive windows and the fenced garden! The light must be fantastic. The light in a shore area always has a special quality. Lisa - your AR rental property looks perfect: a beautiful view and lots of privacy. Big windstorms moving in tonight. PupPup & I will run…

Barbie, Yvonne & Rye - Gorgeous cats!! Joyce - I went to the Ark in October of last year. It is very scooter-friendly, with a wide ramp spiraling up the center. Most exhibits will be very accessible. There are also many places to sit & rest. The buffet at Emzara's (a separate building from the Ark itself) had lots of good…

Sharon - I use YakTrax in icy conditions...easy to slip on & off and with little metal coils instead of spikes, they won't tear up a dry sidewalk if the ice is just patchy. Just be sure to remove for driving!

Thanks everyone for the compliments on PupPup. She’s a sweetie and a real snugglebug. Although she looks (and acts) like a little puppy, she is actually about 9 years old. I inherited her (and her mama, now deceased) from my Pastor when he was hospitalized with terminal complications from a kidney transplant (he had many…

If the image attaches properly, this is PupPup, my funny valentine. She's a mix of Shih Tzu and Poodle, and just an absolute delight.

Well, persistence and planning paid off! Down 2 pounds this week! I have plenty of roasted vegetables left over, and fruit and yogurt for my afternoon snack. Rye – I don’t blame you for being upset at being deserted at your swim event. That was not only disrespectful, it was downright dangerous. My first biathalon (5k…

Thanks for the welcome, ladies! Very disciplined today – did stretches, exercises, took the dog for a short walk, and housework! After my lovely afternoon nap, I am roasting sweet potatoes and carrots, and sauteing some collard greens with onions and mushrooms. My scale died at some point during my recent move, so I found…

Hi, ladies – I have been lurking for so long, I feel like a stalker! Been using MFP for about 2 years, and lost about 50 pounds – but after a flareup of a chronic health condition, a wonky knee, and reduced activity coupled with increased/unhealthy eating, I’m up about 25 pounds. Determined to take it off and more, but…

@pneschich Been following your gastric surgery prep saga. Came across an article today that made me think of you. A new procedure called vbloc that doesn't surgically alter any organs, but instead uses an implantable pacemaker-style device which stimulates the vagal nerve to control appetite. Google Enterics vbloc.…

...until somebody mentions it (chocolate)...then all of a sudden, I can't think of anything else, LOL!

Yes, I checked out TerraTrike's website and some other internet info also. The nearest rental/demo bike shop is almost 2 hrs away, so I'm hoping to get some user feedback before making that kind of time commitment (plus I have health issues that limit my stamina so a 4-hr round trip is a very big deal for me). I saw the…

I use a smaller plate instead of a full-size dinner plate. My smaller portions appear to be more than they really are, so my eyes are as satisfied as my stomach. As I lose weight, I've bought a few new pretty plates in different designs as "rewards", and I look forward to choosing which one I will use for my meal.
-
@suznhenz Your TerraTrike intrigues me. I'd live to get back to bike riding without the aches & pains! As I live in a somewhat hilly rural area with little to no shoulders along the road, my riding option would be the local Rail Trail with a crushed-gravel surface. Any experience on that type of surface? And how would the…

YES, the last 60 will be worth it BECAUSE IT'S THE LAST 60!! I was feeling pretty pleased with myself after losing about 30 pounds (15 before MFP, 15 with MFP) until I saw a candid pic of myself...that was discouraging because I felt thinner than I actually looked. But I kept going, and now, after another 15, I'm not…

Cheryl, I had hip replacement 2 yrs ago. What really helped my swelling was constantly drinking water (which also gave me plenty of exercise shuffling back & forth to the bathroom, lol!) and keeping a gel ice pack on my leg almost continuously. (I had 2 or 3 that I rotated, so one was always frozen.) Even at night, I would…

You look lovely!!

@ilikegardens Karen, I had hip replacement 2 yrs ago at age 60 and have lost about 45 pounds (30+ in the past year with MFP). The hip surgery was the impetus to get myself healthy again. Knowing that good nutritious food, less weight to stress my joints, and moderate exercise to strengthen the supporting muscles would help…

I just passed the 1-year mark, and it went a lot faster than I had expected. I think the first 2 months were the hardest, and then it became significantly easier as my good habits became more ingrained and I built up some delicious go-to food choices. Whenever I had an indulgent day, I would just rein it in for the…

See your GP and get blood tests for thyroid hormone levels, and if you can, get a referral to an endocrinologist to do an ultrasound. I had a few benign nodules but my thyroid function was ok, no typical hypothyroid symptoms ... until all of a sudden, the thyroid decided to go on strike and I felt awful. I was glad the…

I'm 62 and due to pain issues, rarely sleep more than 5-6 hours - mostly in 1-2 hour increments. I've managed to lose about 35 pounds in a slow but steady progress over almost 10 months. Key for me was to have healthy low-cal snacks planned and prepared so that when I became fatigued, I didn't reach for something sugary or…
