The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is stop trying to solve this alone. Talk to your GP and ask for a referral to a counselor who specializes in disordered eating. It's not inherently bad to remain aware of your burn and intake after you've reached your goal. It's not unusual to aim a little under most…

This is what I did, too. I find it easier than trying to look up accurate net-carb entries, some of which still include fiber and some of which don’t (making it impossible to track fiber). It would be nice to have a specific net carb column, but until that exists this set-up is the next-best thing.

Flip your perspective. Instead of focusing on getting your carbs as low as possible, make a game of seeing how many calories you can enjoy eating per gram of net carbs. Start with a cup of broccoli, for example: 30 calories and about 3.5 net carbs? All numbers are approximate here, but anyway: sauté it in a tablespoon of…

One thing I noticed when I stopped overeating is that some days I’m less hungry than MFP thinks I should be, and sometimes I’m legitimately more hungry, and my body knows more than a website. I didn’t lose extra weight by skipping a couple hundred calories I didn’t want, and I didn’t gain any from eating until my stomach…

If you like cream in your coffee, how sure are you that you wouldn’t also like it frothed with butter?

Also avocado, dark chocolate, cheese, dried fruit, jerky, mayonnaise... there are plenty of whole foods whose calories add up quick. I’m pretty active, and sometimes a meal that meets my calorie needs is just plain exhausting to get through. There comes a point where I just don’t WANT another bite of chicken breast or…

I consistently lost weight faster than expected over 5 months, based on the difference between my Fitbit-estimated burn and my MFP-logged intake. Everything has a margin of error: calories per serving, serving size, your food scale, MFP’s activity levels, your HR monitor, burn calculations based on your HR monitor or…

Moderation is ideal if you can do it; it’s useless if you can’t. I saw this article on another thread and found it extremely helpful in understanding why I struggled for so long with something as simple as “eat the same stuff but less of it”:…

Where do you go? I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how easy it’s been to eat out on keto. Salads are rarely the best option, though, unless they have a Cobb. Just today I had a great burger, where I asked for greens instead of fries and left the bun. At my parents’ favorite Indian place I had chicken in cream sauce and…

Actually, it doesn’t. You only get “full” flavor from the first few bites of a food before your palate adjusts. You can go through the whole rest of the plate chasing the deliciousness of those first three bites, or you can accept that it’s not coming back and eat to satiety. At a buffet, I personally would get just a few…

I agree with what everyone says about logging, but something that has been crucial to me was learning that I don’t “have to” eat anything. I don’t have to eat chips just because there’s a bowl of them out. I don’t have to take a huge serving of anything, nor do I have to try some of everything. I can leave food un-ordered,…

I don’t track my food, but I do log in every day to see the activity adjustment from my Fitbit, and also to keep the habit. As soon as I get back to where I have my food scale and access to nutrition labels I can pick right up where I left off.

How much did you weigh when you began to notice you were gaining?

I’ve been doing keto since the first of the year, but I’ve taken breaks before and I will again. I ate what I wanted to eat on Thanksgiving, woke up the next morning and went back to normal. I’m fat adapted, so I was back in ketosis by noon. I’m using whatever leftovers I can adapt into my regular way of eating, and I’ve…

Food doesn’t control me anymore. Even with Thanksgiving coming up, I’m thinking: the turkey and Brussels sprouts are keto already, and I know the pie we’re having this year is so-so. Which makes the main carb sources mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes (both made with a ton of butter) and stuffing. I love stuffing, but…

Honestly I’m at my goal and still don’t *really* see it, but the first time I realized it was happening was about 1/3 of the way there. I was cooling down at the end of a workout and did a seated twist with a mirror behind me and when I looked over my shoulder I liked how my body looked. Something about not expecting to…

Getting into keto has made me far less concerned about what goes with what and how I mix things. Everything tastes good and I want the calories and I just kind of pile everything into a bowl these days. It’s so rare to eat anything that I don’t enjoy that it doesn’t really seem to matter.

No doubt! Once in a while a curious coworker notices me chewing and does that friendly-curious “Yum! Whatcha got?” and I want to be like “Just walk away now, honey.” :D

Mine was actually gorgeous tonight. My husband seared some steak and served it over a creamy cauliflower purée with an artistic drizzle of reduced sauce and a dollop of corn-and-black-bean salad on top. I ate it and therefore have no photos. BUT! The most amazing part came after. I was in the middle of clearing the dishes…

Wow! It’s not keto on its own, but with some meat and a nice rich alfredo sauce it totally could be. I’m going to look out for these!

I tend to go in spurts. For a few months I ate an avocado almost every day, then one day I just...didn’t want one. I got obsessed with eggs instead, then salami, and now chicken salad. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with eating the same things every day, so long as you’re prepared for the possibility you might…

how long have you been on a low carb diet? Since January 1. how much did you weigh when you started and how much have you lost? I started around 153 and my low-tide mark is 122.9. I’m currently resting around 125. how many carbs do you eat a day? Usually somewhere in the 60’s, with net carbs in the 30’s or 40’s. how much…

Meat is definitely expensive, but I used to spend a small fortune on junk food and prepared foods that now I save. I stock up any time one of my staple foods is on sale, and since I don’t really crave or binge anymore I don’t have a bunch of “extra” trips to the grocery store where I pick up whatever looks good. Altogether…

If you’re eating at the dining hall you probably aren’t weighing out your portions, and even if ingredients are posted you don’t know how much of each thing went into what you’re eating. It’s going to be really, really difficult for you to log accurately, and that’s before we even address the issue of just skipping logging…

Mostly agree, but you don’t need to be THAT low on net carbs, especially not if you’re active. Going really low for the first few days can help you get into ketosis faster (and seriously: add sodium to keep your electrolytes up or you’ll feel like grim death). After that, though, you have more of a cushion when it comes to…

Protein is not the enemy of keto. The only reason you see “moderate protein” is that in ketosis, your energy comes from dietary fat. You need to get enough protein for your body, but beyond that there’s no real upside to eating more. There IS, however, a reason to use those calories for fat, instead: because then you have…

If you’re not logging everything, it’s not really possible to know whether you’re eating 1500 or way, way more. Even without “official” binges, treats here and there can add up FAST if you don’t log them. And only logging the good is pro-binge behavior (I say this with empathy and experience), which strongly suggests that…

Well, yeah—water doesn’t have any calories. .75 kilos per week is probably a better goal for you at this point, especially if you feel hungry a lot. A little hunger is normal, but it shouldn’t be following you around all day, know what I mean?
-
Aha! It sounds, honestly, like there’s a disconnect here between what they’re saying and what you’re hearing. During rapid weight loss, muscle loss is common as well. “You should stop and build strength since you lost weight so fast” doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with you weighing too little or being too skinny…

I second all of the above, and especially the food-scale question.
