I'm 5'2 and currently weigh 220.8 (22 years old). I started out at 270 in March. I have been walking (jogging until I can't handle it, then walking until I can jog again) about 3 miles a day every day (usually takes me about an hour) except Saturday, where I go for a 6 mile walk (which is very leisurely, though also mostly…

I had an image up, but my husband asked me to take it down for more anonymity. I respect his wishes and so I removed it. I take online classes and have no picture there, despite having been sort of a "poster child" for the school as a student leader, a first gen college student, a future pediatrician, transferring to a…

Most admissions require a picture of you with your application for medical school (I'm still not exactly sure why...). Plus, prior to admission, there is a meeting where you tell them why you're better for the school than the other 1000+ people applying. Face-to-face, business attire required. Great question though!

If I fail this time, I can basically kiss my dream of becoming a doctor "goodbye" since obese people are less than half as likely with those with the exact same stats to get accepted. On top of that, I'd be throwing away close to $40,000 that I used to get my Associate's and Bachelor's.

Little younger, but not way off. You look about 20. @ilfaith I'd guess around 25.

YAY! I know it can be hard to get started, but it's great that you did. When I started in March, I felt super judged. I was 270 lbs. I would stop jogging every time I saw a car or a bicycle or thought there might be a person hiding in the bushes laughing at me. I knew I was heavy. I knew I jiggled. I knew my *kitten* was…

Have you looked into the DASH Diet? My husband was turned to it when he was diagnosed with hypertension. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/dash-diet/art-20048456 Also, smoothies are great for weight loss and calories. You can throw in a cup of strawberries, a banana, a cup of…

Leave her alone so she can drink her coffee in peace and quiet (most coffee drinkers I know are not happy people until they've had lots of caffeine!)

Only punishment is knowing that you still have more weight to lose :'(

I started out at 270 back in March and am now down to 217. I know the rude comments can hurt and sting, but remember... your weight loss is for you, not them. If they have a problem with the way you look when you improve your health, that's their problem, not yours. I started out with WiiFit, as it was just something to…

I weigh almost daily, but only record if there's a big change, or weekly on Saturdays. Like yesterday, I was down 2 lbs from 3 days ago, so I recorded it. I also weigh if I know I had a "bad day". I got into some of my husband's ice cream sandwiches about a week ago, so the next morning, I hopped on the scale for damage…

I get a lot of clothes donated to me (usually large black trash bags... cause I'm a broke as hell college student) and if clothes look like they're close to fitting (I'm in a size 16, so I'll save a size 14 or 12 for later) I keep them stored somewhere. Recently, I got close to 10 pairs of "new" jeans this way. I set aside…

I got the chance to work with some of the brightest mines in the country. I went to the Stennis Space Center in MS and participated in NASA's NCAS program. My team designed the best rover, so we won the competition. I love to spend my free time learning anything and everything. If I could, I'd be a professional student!…

II never take actual before/progress/after photos, because when I do, I get discouraged and end up giving up. I don't know why, I just know it's one of my issues. My before picture is in March, right around the start of my weight loss. I was doing an interview for a newspaper, which is the only reason I know the exact date…

I know that I was extremely tired after blood donation (not just a day after, but like a good month and a half after). I talked to one of my coworkers and she suggested that I was dehydrated (I work in an ER, scribing for physicians, so the scribes see a bunch of symptoms and diagnoses every day). I've been drinking more…

Everyone wants results, yes, otherwise they'd never try to lose the weight in the first place, cause they don't really care. Just remember though, as stupid as a question may seem, asking is the first step to learning. None of us can claim that we were born with all the knowledge we'll ever need. At some point, you and I…

I'm trying to see where you're coming from here. I guess it is possible that by lying, you may motivate the OP, but what would you tell her if she came back after the first week of sweating and eating and said "okay, so I burned 10,000 calories like you said, but I've gained a pound.. what the hell?" Would you tell her…

Knowledge is power, not an excuse to give up. I was not bickering, simply stating facts. If someone had told me when I first started trying to lose weight "4 pounds per week is perfectly do-able" then I only lost a pound a week, I would have been the farthest thing from motivated imaginable. I would have felt like a…

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1694328/pdf/amjph00546-0061.pdf Facts can be found through this article. "....weight loss of more than 2 pounds per week, a rate that is considered potentially harmful." This is posted on a government website done in a controlled study. The study sites this information from the…

Also, remember that the smaller you are and the less weight you have left to lose, generally the slower it will come off. I started out at 270 lbs (or 19 stone 4 pounds) and have gone down to 217.4 pounds (15 stone 7.4 pounds). I am only 5'2, so I am in the obese category, which means that I should generally have an easier…

I started actually losing weight in March (though I've been "dieting" since February). So far, I've lost 52.6 lbs, for an average of 2.63 lbs/week. 2 pounds per week is safe, but 3 per week is like "absolute max" weight loss weekly. I remember one of my teachers telling me that he went on the grapefruit diet and the acid…

When I got married in 2012, I was about 220 lbs. When I started college in 2014, I was about 230 lbs. In February, about a year after school started, I was all the way up to 270 lbs! I am back down to 217, with a lot of work on my part. I'm taking summer courses, so school never actually paused for me. Summer classes will…
