  • There is a lot worse that they could be snacking on than fruits and veggies! I'd take that alone as a win. No problem, and best of luck.

  • Typically, a child's portion should be about half the size of an adult portion. For your 3 year old, he should be getting 1,230 calories daily or she should be getting 1,165. If he/she is closer to 4, the calories between 4 and 6 go up a lot. 1,715 for boys and 1,545 for girls. For your 8 year old, from 7-10 he should get…

  • Hey! Glad to see that progress is being made. You're beautiful, strong, and you got this. Whether your decision is ultimately to stay or go, it's yours to make, no one else's. You've got my user name, feel free to send it a message. I find when I really am just to my limits, typing up a letter in Microsoft Word, then…
  • I'm 5'2", started at 270 lbs on 3/13/15 and am now down to 212.4 as of 8/21/15. I would like to be down to 135, I think, but I honestly have no idea. I remember feeling healthy at 160 (granted that was when I was 12..) so that is one of my mini-goals (my first mini-goal was get below 225. My second is get below 200. My…
  • I've heard a lot of people say that they weigh at the doctor's office, which is free to do. Otherwise, you can take measurements and try on clothes that wouldn't have fit you before, but a scale is the only way to weigh accurately. Just keep in mind that your weight will vary depending on the location of your scale, due to…
  • @crosbylee and @Tubbs216 One of the doctors that I work with refers to everyone who is a little older as "more experienced with life" Hope that helps keep it in perspective!

  • I like the Equate shakes but haven't had money for them lately, so I've just been eating a crap ton of salad, because it's super cheap, quick, and easy, but not necessarily very calorie-rich. I think adding back in the shakes would be helpful though, thanks!
  • @Need2Exerc1se For the first month, I lost about 15 - 20 pounds, but has gradually slowed down. I'm in my 6th month of weight loss, and still losing 3-4 pounds weekly (I'm still pretty far from goal, but I've already lost almost 60 pounds)
  • I have it set to 2 pounds weekly, and MFP has my calories set at 1350, which looking at how much I'm still losing just seems to be a little too low.
  • Haha, that took me a minute, but it's definitely true
  • Today I was pumping gas and some guy was awkwardly staring at me. I felt totally uncomfortable, but happy at the same time that I wasn't being stared at because my stomach was hanging out of my shirt or my plate of food was making those around me worry if a heart attack could ever be contagious =/ I knew he was staring…
  • I'm finishing STEM Studies this fall, then I'm doing 3 years for my Bachelor's and I'm doing a double major in Health Science and Health Education with a double minor in chemistry and math.
  • So my mom also married an *kitten* (no offense) and he's always telling her how fat she is. It's not healthy for either of them. He'll turn on cooking shows just to comment on how fat the females who are making the food are (like Rachael Ray... "she'd be gorgeous if she only lost 50 pounds"). She's 61, he's 70, and they've…
  • @tiffanymariearpaio An enlarged heart is known as cardiomegaly (megaly means abnormally enlarged, and cardio means heart). Normal causes are hypertension (high blood pressure) or CAD (coronary artery disease). Blood may not be pumped by the heart effectively, which can result in congestive heart failure. For most people,…
  • I've always been overweight. I was the fat kid in gym class that the teacher always tried to get to exercise. I remember having to run the mile in 3rd grade and throwing up everywhere because my fat little body just couldn't handle it. I think that starting out healthy and getting fat would have been a much harder journey…
  • When I first started counting calories, I realized I was eating close to 10000 calories a day. I blame the pints of Ben and Jerrys and the pound of bacon with breakfast... =/
  • Hey, I have 77 left to lose, already down 58. I'm 22, and with the exception of obesity I have a clean bill of health. I know a lot about hypertension and a little about hyperlipidemia, but not much in regards to cardiomegaly. I can try my best to hold you accountable (and give you recommendations for "challenges"... one…
  • I've been eating between 1000 and 1200 calories daily since March (not a short-term person). I'm 22, 5'2" and down from 270 to 212.4. I work 9 hours daily with an hour commute round trip. I notice that when it's hot or I have work, I really have to force myself to eat 1000 calories, and sometimes I'm just not feeling it.…
  • Now at 54.2 lbs down  Little things, like my 150 lb. mom being convinced that her bathing suit would have no problems fitting my 215 lb. frame, really help me stay motivated. I took her down to her ex-husband's sisters yesterday for a family reunion and the whole time she was trying to convince me that I should go…
  • I use a "Health-O-Meter" scale that I got from Walmart. I looked on their website and it's currently rolledback to $30 with a $2 2-year care plan. You can add up to four people to the scale to have it remember weights. I have mine set to 5'2, 21 years old, and female. It gives you weight, body fat %, body hydration, and…
  • I actually didn't try to give anything up. I went into this with the mindset of a lifestyle change instead of a diet. The first thing I did was cut out soda for a month though, because I knew that was where the majority of my calories come from. I unintentionally kept it out of my diet completely for almost 4 months. I…

  • I'll start by saying that I have the greatest husband in the world and he loves me absolutely unconditionally. He has been very supportive of my desire to go to medical school. However, we recently looked up some statistics online and found that almost 50% of premed students never get into medical school. I already have…
  • When I was little, my mom would make it into something that was called tuna pea wiggle. Here's a recipe: http://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/82882/tuna-pea-wiggle/?mxt=t06rda Don't know how calorie-friendly it is.. we always had ours over top of saltine crackers... but it tasted good. Tuna burgers are another good option. I…

  • I know it can seem like a world away. I started at 270 and the top of the normal BMI range for me is 135. This means that I have to find my better half. I've lost 51.6 so far and I'll be half way when I reach 202.5. I only have 16.9 pounds until then. I like to get excited over every pound I lose, but I have a paint by…
  • Thanks! I love coconut milk, so I might have to do a swap for coconut milk with the almond milk, but that actually sounds pretty good. You'll be able to lose the weight before you know it, then going "hey that wasn't hard...!"
  • I just started working in an ED as a scribe, which my boss told me she used as clinical experience and shadowing when she applied (and was accepted) into medical school. I'm trying to get volunteer experience too, but it's proving to be rather difficult. I signed up to be a mentor for children (since I want to be a…
  • I was looking at statistics online and found that almost 50% of all premed students never actually make it into medical school. Being first generation college student and being female gives me higher chances, but being obese makes it so that it would be almost impossible without perfect MCAT scores and a perfect GPA, plus…
