Congrats!!!! Loved seeing that post! Congrats to everyone for sticking with it!

Fantastic! Great job. :)

You didn't read well. Every single day, I moderate the foods I choose to eat, and I do not eat the foods I've chosen to eliminate. It is through discipline that I do this. You don't have to like it or believe it, but that is an every day reality for me. As I stated in my original post, moderation is not easy for many…
-
I never said moderation doesn't work, I said it doesn't work for everyone. Maybe you should re-read what I wrote? In examining my habits, what works for me is elimination of certain foods and moderation of certain foods. Just like sugar shouldn't be demonized, elimination of foods should also not be demonized. Better?

I absolutely do have the discipline to say hey I'm only going to have X amount of this, but my "this" are better choices than what I ate when I got fat. (Otherwise, I would not have been able to maintain a deficit.) For me, I'd rather not waste calories on foods that are not going to satisfy me, or even worse, give me…

I absolutely do have self-discipline with food, that is why I'm having no trouble sticking with my healthy habits now. And, I'm sure I am not the only person to whom that applies. As for the rest, yes some people probably don't understand moderation, however I also think that a lot of people do understand it, but do not…

So, by this statement, all fat people lack self-discipline. That's most people. Which is why I am pointing out that moderation doesn't work for a lot of people. Although, I am now well into a healthy bmi and normal weight range, and I do not practice moderation, nor do I lack self-discipline, so...

Great point. The "Nutrition" education my son received in 7th grade health class was so brief and lacking in examples, that this is exactly the type of conclusion he'd draw. And, he does like McDonald's, so this is the type of stuff we talk about sometimes. The word "moderation" keeps showing up in this thread, like it's…

These are my favorite type of NSV to read. Fantastic!

Halloween Goal: 135 08/29: 151.0 09/05: 149.6 09/12: 148.8 09/19: 146.0 09/26: 144.8 10/03: 143.2 10/10: 142.6 10/17: 140.2 I definitely won't be hitting that goal of 135, but I'm hoping for 138. :)

This is a big assumption, to say "most." At best, perhaps "some" would fit? This is only one example, but there are likely many others: I've shared before in another topic about a friend of mine who ate sugar right out of the bag, and even put extra teaspoons of it in her regular Pepsi, as well as on Frosted Flakes, in…

This is the most well-rounded reply I've ever read in response to this question!

I really think paying attention and tracking it is half the battle, so it's great you're doing that! Some people find success in scaling it back on specific things (like dressings, as you pointed out, and sauces, etc.), but every time I tried that, I failed/yo-yo'd, so I finally bit the bullet and just cut it all (minus…

This is SO true! And that you'll have how many grams each container weighs memorized!

LOL I love this.

This is so inspiring, and wow, you are an incredible Dad. For me, it was the trifecta of family (setting example for my kiddo and being fit to have a long life with hubby), health (so tired of feeling awful) and future, all things I thought about a lot and finally realized I just had to do this.

Food tab --> Settings --> scroll down and change to "Public." Can always change it back later. :) ETA: Congrats on your progress so far!!

Halloween Goal: 135 08/29: 151.0 09/05: 149.6 09/12: 148.8 09/19: 146.0 09/26: 144.8 10/03: 143.2 10/10: 142.6 Posting late, because I was away this past weekend, but my weigh-in is from early Saturday morning. :) My losses are slowing down quite a lot, which is to be expected. I won't be hitting that 135 goal at all, but…

Acorn squash! SO delicious roasted. I had some tonight. Popped it (whole) in a 375-degree oven for 20 minutes, took it out quick to cut it in half and scoop out the seeds (which I later roasted and they were delicious, too), then misted it with extra virgin olive oil and salt & pepper, and a clove of garlic in each half.…

I just finished off a bunch of these. They were way smaller than the ones I usually get, the size of gala apples instead of the huge ones that I also love, but OH SO YUMMY. They tasted like the sweetest apple and the sweetest pear mixed together. Today I'm heading to the same store to see if they're still there. Meanwhile,…

MFP doesn't allow a close-out of a diary if it is less than 1000 calories, because for most people, doing so over time is very unsafe. Time of day does not affect weight loss, so it is only "too late to eat" if you don't have access to food. If you are hungry, please eat. Otherwise, chalk it up to a day to avoid repeating…

If I am one of the people who came across as suggesting it's all in your head, you have my sincerest apologies! I didn't mean it that way at all. [Edited by MFP Mods]

I actually think this is the reason I want hot things/heating pad, etc., too. It's kind of like..."I'm so uncomfortable that I want allofthecozythings." For me, at least, chocolate (and even tea) also falls into that cozy category, even though that does sound kind of weird.
-
Well, that didn't go so well. Anyway, what I have found is that having a hot cup of tea is usually very soothing. And sometimes a heating pad, too. I used to have major chocolate cravings, but I haven't the past few months. I guess it could be a coincidence that this disappearance of the chocolate cravings went away after…

That happiness and contentedness matter so much. ♥ I've been really fortunate, my family and friends have been great. If someone would have reacted negatively, I'd probably have been worried that they might be having some type of inner struggle. I had a coworker once who was very thin and very fit, and who sometimes…

Was thinking about this recently, too, because I love the park best, but that isn't always realistic due to weather, etc. I think I'm going to end up being one of the early-morning mall walkers soon. I do the park-far-away thing, too, as others have mentioned. And I always take stairs rather than lifts. At the park, if I…

Is it bad that I'd actually buy this book? <_<
