Suzanne Collins beat you to it! That exact scenario is in "The Hunger Games." The rich citizens of the Capitol binge and then take a cordial to purge, so that they can enjoy further binges, all while citizens of most of their districts starve. This device reminded me of Wall-E, also, where society adapted to obesity as a…

Not necessarily. Serving sizes can vary, sometimes a lot. Pre-packaged food single-serving sizes or things like slices of bread often do not match what they are estimated to weigh. Most packages will list the serving size with the gram weight next to it. Example: Serving size 1 slice (62 grams) and if you weigh the slice,…

I'm 5'4.5" SW (June 8, 2015): 185 CW: 114 "Ultimate Goal Weight" was 115, still getting a feel for maintenance, just landed there within the past couple of weeks. On "rest days," I usually still end up at least going for long walks. Typically my exercise is in the form of dancing class, 40-60 min, 5x per week. My goal now…

I'm definitely high carb, but not really low-fat. (Is high-carb, moderate-fat a thing? :D ) Please feel free to add, if that's your cup of tea. Diary is open.

Two weeks can feel like a long time for things not to progress, but really, it is not a long enough time at all. Normal fluctuations due to water/hormones, etc. can often make things seem like they're at a stand-still, when they are not. The above advice to make sure you're still logging everything accurately is what I'd…

My hubby and I used to frequent Mexican restaurants, it's one of our very favorite cuisines. In the past months, while changing our habits to make more healthy decisions, I ended up learning how to cook all of my favorite things. I hadn't really set out to do that, it just happened once I realized that I love deciding all…

This guy voices my opinion on this with a lot more eloquence than I would: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoTQ3aOEz54

It has been my experience that logging accurately is important. Using a kitchen scale and measuring everything to the gram, not ounce (including anything that is a "single item serving size," such as a slice of bread, etc. can be very eye-opening, since they are usually off by enough to make a difference.) Low-calorie food…

My favorite way to try on sizes from several different brands is to visit a good thrift store or consignment shop. I just went to one a couple of days ago and learned my size in eight different popular brands. For the most part, they were consistent, and there was a definite difference between misses and juniors sizes. In…

I had to bookmark these, thank you for sharing!

No problem! :) "Vegan" also means consuming no dairy or egg, too, just in case I made that confusing! ♥ Also, forgot to add, vegan here and open diary.

"Plant-based" usually implies the choice is dietary only, whereas veganism is an ethical choice regarding animal lives. Examples include choosing not to purchase or wear leather/wool/silk or anything with any type of animal ingredient in it.

This looks so very delicious!

Congrats!!! Gotta say, I've noticed a few of your posts (your journey is very inspiring, btw, thank you for sharing it!) and one thing I see in every one of your photos is that you have excellent taste in t-shirts!

How adorable!!!

Following for the recipes. Your kitchen must smell like heaven! :)

As so many others have said, home-cooking means you have much better control over sodium content. This includes making your own broth and stocks. Canned fruit/veggies such as tomatoes and beans, etc. come in a "low-sodium" version. Also, I tend to not add any salt during cooking, since I end up not detecting it in flavor…

My freezer is ridiculously stuffed, so I second that suggestion. Also: mug cakes. They're quick, delicious and single-serving. There are recipes for just about any flavors you like.

Cold pizza is delish! Consider weighing it right after you make it (or have it delivered) and pre-portion it out. I actually do that with most stuff that I batch-cook, because I make a lot of soups and stews, so moisture content changes the weight drastically.

Ahaha, I love that word, so cute!! You'll do this, especially with that great attitude! I had a very similar chat with myself when I began last June, now I'm just about done with the weight-loss portion and ready to maintain. Along the way, I've made friends who were on a similar path, and some who were on the maintenance…

Giant is the nearest grocery store, so we occasionally get some stuff there. Weekly trips to Produce Junction or farmers markets for veggies and fruit. Once a month trips to Wegman's and Trader Joe's for pantry items.

It looks like you are judging someone else's decisions about their personal morality and ethics. Does this make you feel superior?

5'4.5" small-frame, SW: 185+ CW: 117.8 GW: 115, 32 DDD, which sounds a lot stranger than it looks, although I need to check and see if I can fit into a 32 DD, since I haven't checked in awhile. I use dumbbell weights at home, other than that, just walks and dancing. My GW has changed a few times, based on how I felt.…

Just over the past few days, I have learned this the hard way lol. The difference in my appetite is massive for me, after going overly carb-heavy with breakfast. Next time, definitely going to make sure to stick with just fruit for breakfast for a few days. (Usually I've never been much of a summer person, but now that I'm…

You are probably not "weirdly shaped" at all! Bra size selection (at least in American stores) is woefully scant. This website is really helpful: http://www.brasizecalculator.tk/ And, once you determine your size, you can search by size on Amazon.com to find choices.

As a former apple-shape, I can support this statement. Once I got into about the middle of my healthy weight range, the "apple-shape" thing was completely gone. To be honest, at my heaviest, I felt more like a blueberry. /Wonka ETA: People do lose weight in different places at different points during their weight loss…

Ahaha! Yes, I know that all too well! I've made so many muffin variations and wow it'd be hard to choose a favorite. (Okay, maybe the apple pie flavor. Or the banana chocolate. Or the chocolate peanut butter. Wait, I'm forgetting the blueberry...)

My experience has been this, too. For me, it took a lot more discipline to learn the habits of weighing/measuring/logging calories. I do try to be very careful about reading nutritional labels. When I'm unsure, I use an app that helps.

Same here! Plus, we're lucky and have a big produce store nearby, and it's way less expensive than the grocery store. I get a nice little workout carrying around several pounds of produce and usually spend around $12 for them. One thing that has really helped me a lot is learning to cook and bake stuff that I once had only…

While I'm sure there are some people who have a sanctimonious attitude, don't you think the same can be said for any human, regardless of their ethical and/or dietary choices? So, maybe it isn't that you don't particularly care for vegans, so much as you don't particularly care for sanctimonious humans. I think it is worth…
