  • I do Les Mills Body Combat. I love all of the Les Mills formats (choreographed everything, but still pretty intense), but sometimes I do wish I could actually punch or kick something other than air.
  • I like to run with the rhythm, and it's TOUGH to find the right cadence. My favorite slower-pace song is Foo Fighter's Everlong. Actually, for some reason (I'm no musician) a lot of their music works for running. Some slower, some faster.
  • You have obviously never see me lose my freaking mind during cherry season.
  • I think part of getting this right is getting to know your body and building an eating plan that works for you so that you're not hungry. I think that any nutrition plan that has you suffering is not something that you'll be able to maintain long term. So if I were you, I'd map out my foods knowing that you're going to be…
  • One square of very dark Godiva chocolate, every day. 50 calories. Yes sir that fits into my plan! Every. Day. I feel like really dark chocolate works well because it is SO chocolatey that less is more. AND, if you're going to eat so little of it, splurge on the good stuff!
  • IMO, it comes down to what you do for a living. I remember making this selection a while back and thinking, like you are, "hmm, well I work out pretty hard, I walk a lot, I do chores, etc etc." Then I looked out the window from my DESK at the guy unloading big water cooler bottles and bam... I clicked "sedentary," no…
  • I think that falls under cardio, and the cardio exercises in the database are really non-specific. I mean, you can do a LOT of goofy stuff to get your heart rate up, they couldn't possibly list them all here. For high intensity workouts, I just log "aerobics, high impact" or "circuit training-general" and call it a day.…
  • At my gym, as you walk in, there is a quote on the wall that sums up why I work out, especially at this point in my life. The quote is, "in health there is freedom." I'm 45 and, while that's not ancient by any means, I can start seeing other people near my age who are unable (or unwilling) to stand or walk for long periods…
  • Yeah for anything like that I use "circuit training - general" or "aerobics, high impact" and don't eat it all back
  • I'm odd.... I don't like tons of people and I don't like being social with my exercise, but I LOVE my gym. I love having so many activity options. And I love the classes - again, not to be social, just because I like to just follow along with what an instructor tells me to do for an hour (lazy thinker here!), then go home.…
  • I had chosen 125 because it's a nice, neat number and right there in my BMI range. But I'm at 128 and I think that losing more will drop me another pant size. While that doesn't seem like a bad problem, it's not financially a good idea. I'm happy with where I am.
  • I agree with the bolded. I always feel like a treadmill, done without an incline, is more like jumping up and down than running and propelling yourself forward. That said, jumping up and down is not the worst workout either!
  • Where do you see that he has not done this? He just says he ran 12 miles yesterday not what he's done other days. He notes his speed on his longer runs, but not what the distance of his longer runs is. If he's talking of a real marathon, surely it's occurred to him to actually try something close to that distance at some…
  • Back fat is pure weight gain. You just have to take off the pounds and it will go away. I know of what I speak on this one, trust me.
  • I use "circuit training - general" for anything like that. It's all an estimate anyway, so I just keep in mind if I worked extra hard or was kind of a slacker that day, haha.
  • I have a foxhound named Zelda who is about 50 pounds and 3 years old, so she has stamina. Absolutely perfect hiking buddy. We have an amazing 30-mile trail system close by where people generally let their dogs hike off-leash. I love walking with her like this, I think she gets such better exercise and socialization. She's…
  • But by all means, tone it all up so that when you do lose any extra fat, what's underneath is fabulous!
  • I'm all about estimating. On days I work out, significantly, I just eat just a little more than usual. I always leave calories for a "tv snack" but on workout days, I'll have a beer (or two!), also. That kind of thing. Real question... not to derail this, but does MFP even take WEIGHT into account when calculating…
  • I could be wrong, but I think you have to take "the girls" into account. I don't know how much a boob weighs (I'm sure someone here does, haha) but it's definitely something. Something substantial for some women. IMO, that's one real factor in why it's unreasonable for women to compare pounds.
  • Burpees have given me such an appreciation for life. My whole life is broken up into portions of "doing burpees" and "not doing burpees." Anytime I'm in the "not doing burpees" time period, I'm just insanely happy.
  • And all I will say is, don't be too hard on yourself. Do what you can, when you can. As I'm sure you know, this time with your little one is SO short in the scheme of things. Having your priorities straight, as you do, will pay off far more than a rigorous workout schedule. You have the right mindset, rest assured. You are…
  • I don't know why people think MFP's exercise calories aren't accurate? None if it's an exact science, I'm sure, but they're pretty close.
  • I don't get more energy in the way you're probably thinking about it. I'm stronger with more stamina. So I can do all the things I want to do without struggling physically. But after a good workout, I actually get quite relaxed and sleepy!
  • I know exactly what you're going through, as I lived this also. Holy heck, stretching hurt!! I believe 3 things helped: losing weight, good shoes (Asics for me) and...I think this has been more important actually.... strengthening my legs overall. As I became stronger overall, I no longer have shin pain at all. Not sure if…
  • Dark chocolate does it for me. It's SO sweet that small amounts are pretty satisfying (to me). I'll get super-dark Ghiardelli squares (about 60 calories maybe?). Currently hooked on the Brookside dark chocolate with fruit centers, single serving packs (80 calories). You still have to save room in your budget, but it's not…
  • I find that Marshalls has a great selection. Finding workout tanks during winter has been a challenge. I don't get that; I wear tanks year-round to workout.
  • I feel like the high intensity, short bursts of hard cardio workouts are great. I've been doing a lot of that, but just returned to running since the weather is improving. It's been hard because my cardio ENDURANCE has suffered. I mean, there are worse things, but I'd keep up the running a bit, no matter what you decide,…
  • I don't do any single type of workout every day. It's either some kind of HIIT, Body Combat, Body Step, running, hiking, Les Mils CXWorks, or maybe yoga/pilates. It's a big mix.
  • For cadence: All My Life, Foo Fighters; Pocket Knife, Bronze Radio Return. Those are top two
  • I do a lot of those classes too. I do find all Les Mills classes in the database. The search function is a pain in the butt though. Try entering Les Mills and most of them should show up.
