I've been wearing one for a bit more than a year and I loved it. Unfortunately, the device was broken a few weeks ago and I can tell you I felt very unease for these past few weeks while working out. I guess I'm just used to being able to read all the numbers. For me, it's not 100% accurate but still a good estimation when…

I'd say I believe the chest strap is more accurate in terms of reflecting the actual heart rate, but it also depends on how you use your Fitbit. If you have a wrist type HRM already, like your Fitbit, use it as a reference for workout zone (what heart rate would make you burn more fat/enhance cardiopulmonary function) is…

I just went there this past week! Also Valley of Fire, Bryce, and Zion. So pretty but also lots of physical works :p Wondering if the experience would be much different in the fall (if the temperature drops more)...

My 1-year-3-month old Charge HR just died 5 days ago in the beginning of my hiking trip. I was excited for what stats I'd get from hiking but ended up with nothing. This was my bday gift & I've been using it almost 24/7 for workout stats, daily calories burn (in comparison to MFP record), & sleep quality. I was told by the…

I've done P90X3 and 21 Day Fix Extreme several times but not full rounds. From just the results I got, 21DFX is good for a short-term, event-focused type of goal and helped me to keep my workout routine on track (say, pulling me back from a random, not-planned, purely cardio-focused weekly schedule). P90X3, on the other…

I didn't really do both of those to experience significant changes in terms of weight loss, but I remember a Zumba move I had that made me feel stronger and less soreness when I was doing it three weeks in a row. Same thing for the lunges/jumping lunges in Body Combat #36. The first time was always so painful, but by the…

I'm actually happier about my achievements so far in my 30s (just entered the department not too long ago :D ) compared to any single year in my 20s. I don't feel lower metabolism nor lower motivation, and the results are actually greater/better. Maybe because I finally learned the right way to do things?! The only…

I don't know if I can count myself as a hiker (maybe just a baby in hiking department, lol) but I like hiking trips wayyyy more than beach trips ( not just the view but how much more workouts as well :p )! We used to live in WNY with great trails and State parks, and now in SC a bit away from the pretty Blueridge Parkway.…

I actually like all the thoughts here but agree with the above the most... If it involves the way we see things (including food) in the way we live, it is a lifestyle change. Yes it might sound too much sometimes, but it does fit into many ppl's cases. Food choice and exercise plan is a big chunk in my daily routine now,…

I won't say dread but very dislike?! I don't like running in any form or in any kind of environment... Running outside equals to sun exposure and bug bites plus air pollution, and running on a treadmill is just boring for me. I also don't like to listen to music with headset/earbuds cuz it's not very healthy to hearing...…

I get bored very very easily even with my most favorite forms of exercise... so I make sure I have as many options available to me as possible :p

Does your Fitbit come with timer for exercise? I might not be 100% correct, but I thought the walking part might be just part of your daily activities...?! And also, the MFP data sounds like it's for an "additional walking" on top of your daily routine. So if you did walked more, maybe check at the end of the day (or even…

I've been workouting at home for the past 2.5 years now... To be honest, my "ideal gym" standard is making me staying at home: I used to live 3-5 min away from the gym (it'd be about 5-10 min with heavy snow in WNY) with a very salary-friendly monthly rate plus all Les Mills classes I want and good PT team. Now it's down…

Thanks @maddymama !! Those are mostly on my breasts (a.k.a. skin and underlying soft tissue). In most ladies these could be less bothersome (I assume) due to the amount of fat. Unfortunately I'm almost flat and don't have the "extensions" away from my pecs and limbs as much as fuller individuals... But yes that's a good…

Is there a way to check your body and/or visceral fat %? I mean, BMI is really only a way of screening rather than a definite diagnosis. It could be misleading especially on people with higher muscle %. There are tons of athletes out there with very high BMI but probably none of them would be categorized as overweight.…

(Not sure why my post got cut in the middle...) And of course, food planning is very important. I didn't realize it until I joined MFP for food logging (unconsciously eating at surplus is not help if one of your goals is to lose fat "somewhere in your body"). I'd recommend a total body lifting program with a nutrition plan…

I'd say it really depends on how much you want to lose from that spot and how your genetics dictates where you're gonna lose first. For me, upper arm/sleeve part is the most difficult area to lose fat and my thighs are the first to respond to those exercises I've been doing. Over the past 10 years I went from completely…

It's not like you eat like those days everyday, so think about the pictures you took during the vacation! The future you will care about / appreciate a smiley face more than the overflow of calories (whether it's really too much calories or not).

I just wanna put my view for only the bony chest part... And please correct me if I'm wrong! If you're talking about losing volume over that "bony area" while you're also losing weight/ having measurement changes over time, chances are you're losing fat over there and there's no way to control it (I knew this cuz sadly it…

I'd say fear?! Fearing that my weight will slowly creep up during my recovery and destroy all good records I once made. Whenever I reach a new goal (weight, measurement, etc.), I tend to see that as a new standard/ starting point and would never want to "fall from that point again." That's why I kept changing my goal…

I'm 5'5.5" and weighed 52.9 kg (about 116.4 lb) as of this morning (highest weight at this height was 61 kg/ 134 lb). My original goal weight was 118 lb and I had the thought of dropping it to 114-115 lb (around 52 kg), but having a lower BF% in that weight range will be a real challenge! I'm actually happy with my current…

It's funny that my bf just told me "any hobby is a waste of money." I actually gave it a thought and realized that's because he didn't understand how mentally satisfying it could be while devoting yourself to your hobbies (if done it the correct way). But that part about money is true... Just that I won't say it's a waste.…

I guess you can start with figuring out your expectations to your body. Ask yourself questions like "why I don't like how it looks," "is there any way to change it," or "am I ready to change now." When you have answers to those questions, it'll be easier to carry out the rest of the plan (finding a new workout regime,…

I'm about 5'5.5" (166 cm) so I'll count myself in this 5'6" club :p When I was 132 (60 kg), my GW was 121 (55 kg). But then I dropped it to 118 when I reached 121. I'm now at 116-118 but mostly stable at 117. I was seriously considering lower that number of GW to 112-114, but now I just want my weight to be stable at…
-
@heybales yes I think that somewhat adds "variety" to the lower body strength and stability (I switch to split squats once a while), but I don't know how much it'll help in the long run... The max weight limit for my hands is still there, and I have to go back to check if I work the same muscle groups by switching to those…
-
Thanks @psulemon and @nossmf ! I actually marked it that way but not really sure... And yes, I do increased the weight I use over an 18-week course (very slow/small increase though) especially for the upper body parts. Squat is a major reason why I seriously considering finding a gym cuz it doesn't seem like I can no…

Sorry that I jump on this topic... So I've been doing ICF 5x5 with those modified DB moves for 16-18 weeks before I have to stop for a while for my palms cuz they hurt whenever I grab the heavy DBs. Now the questions came up: 1) how do I count the weight for those upper body moves I held one DB in each hand? (Like, OHP…

@lexieheartspink I often feel the same! I have friends and family members trying to lose weight not just now but for years. I've tried giving my honest opinion about "watching what they eat" (not even logging!) as the very basic, initial step for monitoring their calories intake, but the response is always the same and…

I was practicing this without noticing it for many years (12-hr without food intake; usually no food after dinner until the next morning) but my weight didn't change much until I started counting my macros/ calorie intake. I still like it though... It helped my bowel movement (empty stomach--> food--> bathroom!!) and I…
