  • I have the Vivoactive hr, and I really do love it. Since it also has GPS, it's a bit more - about $150 on Amazon, which really isn't bad for what it is. I just checked the Garmin website, and it looks like they stopped making it and are up to the Vivoactive 3 (for $250).
  • Thanks! No matter what, I know I'll finish, one way or another. And I know I'm going to have fun too!
  • One thing to keep in mind - the formula used to calculate cholesterol may change as the cholesterol levels drop. The Friedewald formula is fine if triglycerides are between 100 and 400. Lower than that and you'll probably want to use the Iranian formula because the particle size is larger and the math will be different. It…
  • I tried several and settled on Endomondo. They seem to be as accurate as the next, and they give you a huge amount of data, which is like calorie-free candy to me.
  • That was my thought too. It seemed like a great way to keep blood sugar stable is to not elevate it in the first place, and eggs are great for that. Most of the studies done were the type where you logged your foods or told them what you ate based on recall, and we all know how well that works out. Plus they rarely take…
  • The only recent, credible caution I have seen was for people who are serious diabetics, but even that correlation was pretty shaky. I have had people tell me two eggs a day would literally kill me. So I laughed and ate a third. Not dead yet.
  • Great for heartburn (which is counterintuitive, but it's usually the placement of the acid, not the quantity that causes pain), I could see it helping with digestion, and it's really good over a salad, but I don't think it's a miracle cure either.
  • I like PB2 in a chocolate protein shake, but otherwise I just use real peanut butter.
  • I'm running my first 5K this weekend! The goal so far is just to run the whole thing, which may or may not happen. I'm hoping I can rein in the adrenaline enough to keep me running but not jackrabbit the first mile. Temps should be around 76F when the race starts, so that's a good thing. It goes up pretty quickly from…
  • Macros, potassium, and magnesium. I'm better at watching them some days than I am others.
  • Machines will work, but you really do engage more muscles using free weights because you have to stabilize your body while it's in motion. I almost exclusively use machines, but that's because my joints aren't stable and can pop out and back in again. It's not safe in my case, other than dumbbells with no one nearby. I'm…
  • This came up a few years ago, so you can just Google it and find a number of articles. Drinking chocolate milk may help your workout - WebMD
  • I go Tuesdays, Thursdays and either Saturday or Sunday (lifting and walking/running). I'm thinking about training both weekend days instead of just one, but I'm still on the fence about it. On my off days, I'm still walking about 3 miles for work as well as going up and down stairs all day, so it's not really a full rest…
  • I belong to Planet Fitness. Why? Because I'm cheap, and my problem is not knowledge, it's actually doing what I already know how to do. I signed up when I was unemployed and desperately needed something to take my mind off what felt like a 24/7 job search in a state with 14% unemployment. Yeah, it sucked. Within a couple…
  • If I'm bringing my lunch, I'll weigh it, add it to my food log, and then toss it in my bag before I leave for work. When I eat, then I'll just leave the food log alone if I ate the whole thing, or I'll edit the entries for foods where I didn't. I actually did just buy a small food scale for work, but only because I was…
  • I love steak and I love eggs. But.... that's it? For a whole month with only one freaking day of anything else each week?
  • I weigh every day, first thing in the morning (well, second or third - I go to the bathroom before). I know a lot of people think it's not good to weigh every day, but it's an individual thing. For me, it's better for my head because I see the fluctuations and know that's normal. If I saw it went up during a once a week…
  • I could totally jump on board with half of that. That much sleep does not sound like fun, though. :/
  • I work with a whole lot of dentists. Same thing. I have never seen so much sugar in my life.
  • It's 5:30 pm and 105F here. This is why I belong to a gym. As far as weighing, I try to weigh myself first thing in the morning, right after I go to the bathroom and have been in decent temperatures all night. That way food and rehydrating don't have much influence either way. I can't see the heat having too much impact at…
  • The closer you get to your goal weight, the less of a calorie deficit you should have. More than 500 calories is fine if you've got maybe 40 pounds to lose. Not so much when you're that close. Your body will fight you on it, and it won't be pretty.
  • The nice part about logging properly is that most people tend to eat the same foods, and they suggest them to you the next time you go to log a meal. Make sure you're doing it right the first time and it's super easy from then on. I have seen a few items where the nutrition info was way off, and I did click on the part…

  • I live with my boyfriend, who is the "always lean no matter what" type, and my son, who plays rugby and is a long distance runner. Eating the way I do would mess them both up pretty seriously, and eating the way they do... well, that's why I'm here. I've had this discussion with them before. My son brings in a lot of food…
  • My son told me that too. He's very into the science behind it all, and he didn't like that I was "warming up" (yeah, I know) with 2 miles of treadmill and then doing all of my lifting. So now I switch it up and do my lifting first. Something about getting the lactic acid out of the muscles?
  • Yeah, that would probably be my kryptonite.
  • SOOO very glad to see this thread! I tried running for the first time a couple of days ago, and then again this morning. I can walk fast like crazy, but running has always been... barf-inducing. Or maybe just the threat of barfing. I usually walk at about 3.5 mph for 2 miles 3 times a week. Thursday, I ran at 5.5 mph for…
  • I get a grande iced coffee with whole milk, no sweetener. But I'm also not looking to lower my fat intake all that much. 40 calories Fat - 2 grams Carbs - 3 grams Protein - 2 grams
