I don't exercise like this every day but it will be interesting to see if it makes any impact. Going with the information that I do know, according to scooby and based on my personal information my TDEE is 2471 which is for simply maintaining my weight (which is what I am doing). As you can see in my food log I'm averaging…

I quickly checked another site for the calories burned for different activities. If you extrapolate the weight out to my portly self at 233, this particular site estimates that these activities burn about 850 cals/hour. So for 90 minutes, that works out to 1275 calories burned.
-
Maybe you have a different activity calculator? :)
-
No offense taken (well, maybe a little). But to be honest, what I've learned from the responses so far is that the activity calculator is meaningless, the 'verified' caloric content of food list shouldn't be trusted and because of this, I'm being accused of whining? Not feeling the love here.... :)
-
I didn't make this number up you know. This came from this site's activity calculator. Unless you are arguing that the calculator is totally meaningless? If this calculator is meaningless, what does that say about the site?
-
This was taken from this site's activity list which was the closest thing I could find to the actual activity. I would challenge your statement because what I actually did was lift 40 pounds of preprocessed wood blocks and carried them down 10 stairs and walked 40 feet to stack them in my cellar, walked back 40 feet and…

I hear ya. If you check my food log, 7.5 ozs turned out to be a whopping 833 calories. But I just took the default for the casserole...could have been more or less. Another question: Is the raw calorie content the same as the cooked?
-
I don't 'eat back' the calories and I rarely log any lifestyle activity since the numbers would be so low (like today), it made little sense. What I eat is what I log and in all honesty, I am fairly active so the 'real' daily caloric intake should actually be much higher than it is. Regarding weighing the food, in most…

After moving 1 ton of wood into my cellar (I'll be moving 2 more tons over the next couple of days) I'm over 1100 calories in the hole for today. I don't normally add activity because the net calories are so low. This is based on the closest activity I could find in this site's anemic list of activity. I couldn't even find…

I've purposely selected a lower activity level than reality for me to force a lower TDEE. According to the scoobyworkshop.com site, supposedly the most accurate on-line calculator, my TDEE is 2136/day. This is actually 50 cals/day more than this site suggests. So the question is, are these just generic suggestions or are…

Being as accurate as possible over the last week or so, I've seen no difference. Again, there's no way I'm under-reporting to the tune of 800 calories/day. That just isn't possible.

After 31 days, averaging 1200 calories/day I weigh basically the same as when I started. This is 800/day less than suggested by this site to lose 1 pound a week. Again, I find it hard to believe that I could be off by that much per day. Something is clearly wrong.
-
Crap! I see that now. OK, let's go with the 2162. So yesterday, I logged 1225 calories for the day being as accurate as humanly possible. That's a deficit of 900 calories for the day. I realize that I could have been off on some of the foods previously but I still have a hard time believing I could be off by that much.
-
Wow that's bizarre! Why do I get totally different numbers?
-
I just had another thought to pass by you guys. I went back to the scoobysworkshop calculator and I've attached a pic of the results here. I purposely choose 'desk job' which isn't really that accurate being I am much more active than that. However, if I'm reading this correctly, the point is according to the calculator in…

Message received loud and clear! :) Going forward I will not be using the default setting but will break everything down by component.

That's a very good point. We eat very little if any prepackaged foods so most of what I eat is freshly made. I've wondered how accurately some things can truly be measured. For instance, if I grill a 4 oz. fresh hamburger patty on the grill and assuming it has a 15% fat content, some of that fat melts off during the…

Wow. Your story is very inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing it. I went back and reset the activity level to 'desk job' but it still requires me to consume 2046 cals/day to lose 1 pound a week. I really don't know what to do at this point if I'm eating considerable less. I don't know if trying to weight everything more…

Sure! I'm 5'7" and as of this morning, I'm 234 pounds (gained 2 since yesterday). I would like to get down to 175 which is still considered 'overweight' for my height but that's my personal target. The '30 year' comment was not meant to be taken seriously :) . I just went to the calculator you suggested. Using the 20%…

From everything I've read regarding weight loss, your body burns readily available glucose first, then when that's depleted, it turns to fat stores. Only when fat stores are depleted, will it start to cannibalize muscle tissue. For instance: http://www.livestrong.com/article/471359-which-burns-first-fat-or-muscle/

If you look at my diary report for carbs, you will see that I consume about 40 to 50% of the recommended daily amount of carbs. In the early part of my diary I started listing my daily physical activity but my net calories started going negative which didn't seem to help trying to figure out where I was.
-
I've heard this before but please explain how consistently eating less calories causes you to gain weight? I thought that was supposed to be the whole point to weight loss.
-
Wow. To be honest, I didn't expect all these responses! I'd be happy to open my diary but don't know how you do that? Any help? Thanks.

Its only been 2 weeks for me so its probably too soon to determine accurately, but for me, eating 1200cals/day just maintains my weight. In order to lose, I need to eat less than this. Oddly, this site recommends that I eat 2080 cals/day. :) If I actually ate that much I'd be as big as a house!

Wow! The exrx.net website said I need to eat over 5000 calories?? What a joke!!!
