I did check it out and will use it. A 1730 calorie dinner would be some dinner! The scale question was a actually a serious one. I just looked at our bread package. Each slice is 43 grams for 120 calories. From here, I suppose you would divide the grams into the total calories to get a 'cals per gram' unit of measure…

Whether they are "outlandish" or not remains to be seen. It is fairly well established that older men suffer from several hormonal deficiencies and all have adverse effects on causing a loss of lean muscle mass and adding adipose fat. Restricting calories and increasing exercise can slow the process but not stop it…

This was not directed at you flatlndr. I emailed my VA doctor and requested the additional test. My normal INR test is on September 1 and it takes about 3 days for it to show up in my on-line medical account. I'll take a screen shot and share it here. However, assuming it's low, I really don't know where to go from there.

I tried the Warrior Diet for a week and lost 5 pounds. Intermittent fasting does work. The only reason I stopped was that my wife thought it wasn't safe.

No more frustrated than I am that no one here will believe me. Let's say I buy a scale and weight everything. Then, let's say that I find I am still not losing weight. What then? I will then be accused of not weighing properly or not weighing everything, or..... I doubt people here will ever believe anything I say if it…

No you're not. Some people here are by far the most vile, negative people I have ever met. Because I'm a Vietnam veteran, I go to the VA for free medical. I'm on Coumadin for life because I have Peripheral Vascular Disease and have my blood tested every month. I asked my VA doctor to include a test for testosterone and he…

That was a very kind thought and shows you are a caring person, really. Regarding the Scooby calculator, I know he compensates for diminished BMR but do you know if he compensates for declining testosterone levels?? Just curious.

"No matter how much they exercise or how little they eat, these men are unable to shed this excess weight that accumulates in their belly. Published studies have shown that low testosterone and obesity reinforce each other, trapping men in a spiral of weight gain and hormonal imbalance.1-5" I guess no one bothered to…

Here's yet another 'excuse' for why I may not be losing weight: "Beginning in middle age, men’s testosterone levels begin a steady decline, culminating in the so-called “andropause,” a state defined as partial androgen deficiency.19,20 On the same time-scale, men begin to gain weight as fat, and to lose lean muscle mass.…

Maintenance for me, as silken555 shows above is 2300 cals/day. I eat 2 meals a day and one or two small snacks. We've been here before, and I refuse to believe that I'm off by 1000 calories a day. This just isn't happening. I'm not going to convince you and you are not going to convince me so we can just leave it at that.

The World's Most Accurate calculator above says I can eat 2057/day to lose 30 pounds in 5 years and I'll still be obese. Sounds like a great plan..... :) Regardless, did you know that I haven't gained 1 pound in the last 10 months?? I bounced up or down a pound or two but I weight exactly what I did last October. And this,…

I swore I wouldn't be back but here's Scooby's Calorie Calculator results based on just what you have shown but with only 3 meals a day (even though I only eat 2) instead of 6 - So after 5 YEARS of dieting I'll finally arrive at my goal of being.......obese???

That great for them. Not everyone is the same. I only returned to address some of the insults thrown at me. Yes, I've come to the realization that I will not be able to lose weight and I'm good with that. This really will be my last post.

These are not excuses but simply facts of life. BMR does slow as we age and the terrible irony is that restricting calories only makes it worse. The key is the loss of 'free-fat mass'. "Most people tend to experience a reduction in their metabolic rate as they age, which can lead to the unhealthy accumulation of extra body…

"Children have a higher TMR than adults. As people near middle-age they gain weight many times, even though they may not change their eating habits. People who pursue diets can become frustrated in part because initial weight lost is from water that is rapidly regained, but also because their TMR declines over time. As…

OK I can take a hint. No one here is willing to believe that I am eating less calories than I ever have and still not losing weight. My apparently heretical opinion is not welcome. I get it. I won't be back.
-
I don't know. I am quickly becoming a believer in the 'set point' theory. :) Back on July 7th I was 233 and today (41 days later) I am also 233. Regardless of how much or little calories I eat, my body always seems to settle back to this weight. Either that, or I am eating the exact same calories every day! :) This would…

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions!

I completely understand the weighing. The point is that an accurate food scale is not in our budget at the moment. Yes, I realize that they go for as little as $20 but we don't even have that at the moment. Times are tough for us. This was the reason I was trying to approach it from the 'generic' standpoint. Eating less,…

OK its open. The 1000 would be the total calories disregarding any activity.

I've averaged my daily calories for the last 29 days to be 1250/day. Now, irrespective of whether this number is particularly accurate or not, it shows that eating this amount results in just maintaining my weight. Theoretically, I can set this number as my nominal TDEE and therefore, reducing this to around 1000 should…

I have a question then. For lunch today I had a BLT. The bread is easy because the calories/slice is listed on the label. I assume I can use this. The lettuce is fresh lettuce and I have no idea other than to take the default setting for lettuce. Same for 2 slices of tomato. I can measure 1 TBSP of mayo. The problem is the…

This documentary was first aired in 2009. Here is Debbie Chazen in 2010. I guess she didn't take their advice :).

Thanks for the links! According to the first site, my TDEE is 2552!! I select the lowest activity level. I'll check the foods I eat against their charts to see any differences.

Actually I stand corrected. Doing a little more digging I see where there is what's called a 'small' calorie and 'large' calorie. Where a small calorie is equal to one calorie and a large calorie is one kilo-calorie. I don't always like to be right, I just tend to keep pushing until I understand things. Just me. So we have…

I disagree. A kilocalorie is 1000 calories. http://www.ask.com/math/convert-kcal-cal-a6b1121335ac48e4?ad=semD&an=msn_s&am=broad&ap=yahoo.com&o=11937&qo=boostResultOnSERP As I stated earlier, because the 'calculators' on this site are useless to me, I will keep reducing the calories I eat until I can start seeing…

Actually, it was 52 times not 25 so wouldn't the total be 1.248 kcals or 1248 calories? And as you say, it doesn't even account for the carrying distance or placement. So it sounds like I was actually pretty close. :)

Didn't realize the video was so long but will make an attempt to get through it over time. Its odd that it only got a 5.6 out of 10 review??

Anyone need a good laugh? :)

Actually that, 'one pound every three weeks' has disappeared :). But you are 100% correct. Something has to change. I'm going to continue to track my calories and try to reduce them on a weekly basis until I see some results. Thanks to everyone for their help!
