  • Just did w4d1. I am following the 5K plan within the Runmeter app, so today I ran 2:00, w 3:00, r 5:00, w 2:30 x 2 sets. I was really apprehensive about running 5:00 -- but I slowed down, thought about breathing, and did it!!!
  • How would speed affect elevation? (I'm not questioning you -- just really curious).
  • So today I went out to try w4d1, with its 5 min runs, and you all were .... RIGHT!!!! Thank you!!!
  • Think of good shoes as an investment in yourself and your health! You're worth it! I second the idea of getting properly fitted shoes from a running store. The folks there are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They will be able to tell you if you pronate and may even have some tips on running form. I encourage you to…
  • Just finished w3d3. Tough. I was really hoping for a 'good' run today as I had a rest day yesterday and after 4 days of holidays was eager to get back to it.
  • Please add me! I'm on week 3.
  • I have the Garmin Vivoactive. It syncs on MFP. I like it because when I go to exercise, I can indicate I am running, swimming, or biking, and because it has GPS it is pretty accurate with distance and calories. It is waterproof to 50m, so if you swim you might want to consider a model like this. I also don't worry about it…
  • Have you been properly fitted at a running store? Where they analyse your gait for pronation and then find a shoe to support you based on that? I'm not a pronator and have relatively wide feet. I have Asics Gel Nimbus and they are perfect for me.
  • I've heard great things about both of them! They will be on my list to try!
  • You folks are wonderful! I'll try and find a store nearby that carries Giant bikes -- the places I've been have sold Trek, Cannondale, and Specialized. It's nice to hear about the bikes you have and love. I think I need a hybrid AND a road bike, lol! Right now, I'm thinking aluminium, caliper ... And will have to decide…
  • Wow, thanks for the insights! When I next visit my LBS, I'll try several different bikes. The guy I was chatting with suggested the Cannondale Quick, Cannondale Synapse, Specialized Dolce, Specialized Vita, or Specialized Ruby. I also have been looking around on the Trek website and will try the FX bikes and the Domane.…
  • @BrianSharpe Love. That. Saying. !! One of the salespeople at my LBS was showing me a road bike with flat bar -- a Cannondale Quick. I've also ridden a Trek FX. One store has a Specialized Vita Comp test bike with a few upgrades (since it was a test) at $300 off since it's a 2014. I'm going to give that one a spin, too. If…
  • I found them at a local GNC. I got a wide variety. So far, I've had two. They are SWEET. Not sure I like them because of that.
  • Can you find a long sleeve one that has a very very lightweight, wicking, breathing material? I have a shirt from lululemon that is long sleeve but quite light that I have found works well for me when I've been out exercising. Unfortunately, it was pricey, but I do like it.
  • I count in my had too!! Funny!
  • Great idea! I will definitely do this.
  • Thanks! I am hoping to get a bike. I love cycling!
  • Just did w3d2. Much better than the last run. I took yesterday off as I was feeling very achy and depleted, and I think that was the right decision as I felt (and ran) so much better today. What do you all do on your non-C25K days? I usually use the elliptical, but I feel like my knees don't get much if a rest between…
  • Thanks for the encouragement! I have good shoes ... I think my age is starting to catch up with me, lol! I am seriously considering getting a bike to supplement c25k.
  • I did w3d1 last night. Managed to complete it, but was So. Much. Slower. than I had been doing. And this morning my knees are hurting. I'm trying so hard and this is discouraging.
  • Not that I have noticed. I will have to pay attention :)
  • Thanks, everyone! There are 3 GNC stores near me, so I will check them out. My local grocery has just been through a huge renovation, so I'll see if I can scrounge some up from there as well. I wish Costco carried them!
  • Thanks! I'll find a GNC next time I'm at a mall.
  • I just did a little test to confirm the accuracy of my Vivoactive. I checked my tracker, walked 100 steps, and checked again -- it was spot on. I did this several times and at most it was 2-3 steps off. I happened to be wearing a backpack, so I then tried the same thing except I held onto the shoulder strap of the pack so…
  • The Vivoactive is water proof to 50 meters. So yes, I'd feel very comfortable taking it swimming. Just need to find a pool ;) The fact that I didn't have to worry about it while doing dishes, showering, getting caught in the rain, etc is one of the reasons I chose it.
  • Hi there! I have a Garmin Vivoactive -- which I LOVE. The GPS is accurate for running and cycling, it's a watch-style strap so I don't worry about it coming off, the battery lasts well over a week (around 10-12 days in my experience), I love the customisable data screens in the activity modes, it's water proof so no…
