  • A lot of times, the diarrhea is diet related for established runners. For new runners, a lot of it is due to the stress of the digestive system being tossed around. Over time, the body gets used to the extra movement. And even then, sudden bouts can still occur. Try and be mindful of your diet. Don't go eating junk food…

  • Have you been fitted for running shoes, and are the ones you are running in new or old? Have you tried using a slant board for 20 - 30 minutes at a time twice a day?
  • When one rejects you in a relationship, it isn't about you (most times) as it is really about the other person. Said rejection should not be internalized in a manner that sees the love given as something that was wrong. Rejection does not mean that there is something inherently wrong with you. There is no need to view it…
  • If budget allows, consult with a therapist, who can help you get to the root of why you overeat. He or she can also provide you with skills in properly handling day to day stress, instead of internalizing like you have been. Until you address the root cause, you will stay on the merry-go-round.
  • You will get to a lot of long miles soon enough. ;) Keep thinking good running thoughts. Too bad you aren't local. I could use a running partner, especially on my long run day (Saturday).

  • If possible, it would be a good idea to slowly work your mileage up to at least 70 miles a week (during a 5 -6 day run week). That will put you in better condition to handle the two races. I think using the Ultimate Direction vest is a good choice, as is using two different drinks during the race. I do the same kind of…
  • OP, From what you briefly described, it sounds like you may be experiencing overuse symptoms (re: too much too soon). As previously said, rest, ice, and ibuprofen. In the future, whenever you experience pain during a run, stop.
  • In another 2 months (or so) you will be hitting the 10 mile mark. ;) Good work. Keep at it.
  • I don't think it is a matter of genetics and using mom and dad as an excuse. In my opinion, she hasn't been training properly for long distance running. And that is one of the reasons why she has continued to fail in her quest. Long distance running requires the proper training, which will produce the endurance and stamina…
  • Given what you have said here, I think you are projecting your own negative thought process onto your husband, which it appears, that you are using as a weapon against him and yourself. You saw negativity in his words of support, because that is what you see and hear inside yourself. Those who look to be offended all the…
  • MFP (as a whole) is not accurate with the caloric tallying. As such, I would be very cautious about putting any real significance behind the number(s) you may see.
  • Being overweight (at the moment) is not who you are. Being overweight is but a small part of the totality of the person you are. It doesn't matter what other people may think or even say to you, in regards to your weight. Said person(s) are not you nor can they light up that special part of the world in the same way that…
  • Shave the hair around your nipples and then apply some 3M Transpore tape across each nipple. That will alleviate your problem.
  • When you go out for your runs, don't get overly focused on the distance number. Sometimes, a runner ends up psyching him or herself out before the run even starts. And then he or she wonders why the run felt so hard. Your run starts long before you lace up your running shoes and hit the pavement or trail. If a person has…
  • Given your running history, or rather lack of, I agree with the previous member who suggested a probable overuse problem. Remember in your other thread, when many of us where encouraging you to make your runs very easy? I believe it was also mentioned, that one's ability to transport and use oxygen throughout the body is…
  • I agree with you, girl. Running trails is fun, not to mention challenging. I don't like falling down on occasion. However, the varying terrain and being able to see deer, snakes, rabbits, bobcat, occasional wolf, turtles, and cranes makes it all worthwhile, compared to constantly having to run on asphalt. If a person wants…
  • Even though I made some grammatical mistakes in my post, (from typing too fast) I am glad that it was of help to you. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. Once you finish your C25K program, there is a C210K app you can look at. It is made by the same people. And in my opinion, it is not really worth the money.…
  • If you aren't hungry and have gotten in your regular meals, there is no need to eat more, especially with short runs etc.
  • Welcome, Marika Being around (volunteering, crewing, pacing, or just cheering) ultra runners is inspiring. Glad that you have caught the ultra bug. To my knowledge, there is no known cure but to run more and more. ;) It is good that you have given yourself plenty of training time for your first 50 miler. Will it be on the…

I was able to get a pair of Altra Paradigm 2.0 for $90.97 They have plenty of brands that are eligible for the sale, from what I could see. I really like the Altra brand with the wide toe box (amongst other features).…

  • Fasted. When I am running, I prefer to use my own body's fuel as much as possible, versus food, energy gels or drinks. When I use the latter during the run, I use very little. After the run, I will use what is left over to help replenish electrolytes, protein and carbs etc.
  • I wouldn't put too much stock in either device. While a heart rate monitor (strap) is not perfect, it is a lot more accurate than the Apple Watch or MFP. Using the latter device will give you a much better idea of calories burned, in my opinion.
  • I agree with a lot of what has been said already. @Joanna212B gave some excellent advice. C25K is a very good program. I highly recommend it to those just starting out. It teaches you consistency, discipline, and patience, as you progress through each week. Many people end up repeating certain weeks, which is fine. Better…
  • Without knowing more about your training methods (and pace) and running history, my first thought is that you are probably running too fast for your current fitness level and long run objective. How fast have you been running your long runs, compared to your daily run pace? Long runs, as a general rule, should be run…
