  • Hi! I'm curious why you feel it's harder to "eat clean" as a veggie? What do you define as clean? I'm a tall veggie too...
  • Why wait on the pool? Why not start now? If it makes you happy just watching it on tv, imagine how happy you'll be when you are actually in one! The best thing about water is that you are relatively weightless compared to land. Use it to your advantage as a key to improving your fitness!! Good luck!
  • 5'11" (used to be 6' but have shrunk an inch). I've lost 18lbs and I'm close to goal weight. Add me if 1) You like to regularly comment vs. Just "liking" a status 2) you have an open diary.
  • Same. Nothing like 160 flip turns to make food come back up. I eat something light about two to three hours before. I wouldn't swim while completely empty.

  • Swimming has been great for my arms and shoulders. I swim three times a week for about 3.5 to 4km. The flab is gone - 11". I wish it did the same for the tummy. Getting there- slowly.
  • Thank you both for replying! Yes, I know I'm impatient. I guess I'm just tired of not seeing my times improve like I want them to. I definitely know I'm older! I feel it lol! I think you are right AQ, my form probably deteriorates as I continue to get tired on those 100s. I really don't have anyone to watch or film me-…
  • Oh, forgot to mention I swim three times a week. I walk 5k three days, and I have a home strength routine three days a week. Thanks!
  • Hi everyone! I just posted a question to this wonderful group in a new thread. Any tips to get faster? Thanks!
  • Hi, a referral to a rheumatologist will rule out a connective tissue disorder. A genetic counsellor does genetic testing but that's a more roundabout route. It sounds like you've already been diagnosed with arthritis so the rheumatologist is the best bet. Was it an orthopaedic physician who diagnosed you? He/she can do the…
  • Lifting weights will most definitely help with hyper mobility and help prevent arthritis from getting worse or setting in too early (depends on whether you have a connective tissue disorder or if it's a benign hypermobility). It's something that you should keep up for the rest of your life, because it protects your joints…
  • Really it's experimentation to see how long things last. It all depends on what you are making. I wouldn't think you'd want to keep meat around for more than a few days though. I'm vegetarian and do a lot of freezing of my different types of vegetable stews, soups, fillings for enchiladas and chillies. Many of my fresh…
  • Coffee, water, beer.
  • I'm not completely sure how this slimming world thing works but I'm wondering if they have calculated the calories burned from swimming as a big factor for CICO. Swimming is a great way to get fit and burn calories, but it's overestimated in swimming calculators for the average person. There are way too many variables to…
  • Close minded? Hardly. My comments reflect that I've spent my entire life working in many areas of hospital healthcare and "seen it all." There are many factors driving the cost of hospital healthcare and the supply chain is only one very small part of the picture. Vegan diets are not affecting it. What you have quoted from…
  • Derp, it's no rosy picture. It's reality, and it already happens. You clearly do not have a good understanding of how healthcare dollars are spent, nor what drives the system. Healthcare is a complicated thing and by your last comment I feel that you are just a troll. Cry as you might, but hospitals are already feeding…
  • Let's get some facts straight here. There is so much rubbish posted on this thread about this topic. If you really want to know how Canadian healthcare dollars are spent you need to spend some time researching the Canadian Institute of Health Information -or CIHI. Not speculation and opinion. First, the Canadian healthcare…
  • It's great that you are looking towards swimming and water based exercise for the knee. Your physio should be able to guide you on exercises to help your recovery. In the pool you should probably avoid whip kick for now. You can deep-water jog and also try water walking - forwards/backwards/side to side - as able. Use the…
  • I've been on HRT for five years. I'm 49. I used to have a super fast metabolism, and if I skipped dessert for a week I'd lose five pounds. I was super thin all the way until my late 30's. Menopause changed all that. I went on HRT because I'm a little young for osteoporosis. I have to work pretty hard to lose weight now,…
  • Swam 4km today!! Feeling great about it. I made my way back into the pool after more than a decade out. I started with 1,500m four weeks ago and been going three days a week. I really never ever thought I'd be able to swim like this again. It's like being re-united with an old love. I certainly don't have the speed that I…
  • For the first time in my life I have prescription goggles! I bought them on sale this past weekend - speedo vanquishers. What a great thing it is to see the clock clearly, the grout line in the tiles, and everything else too! Wow! But I guess you see the yuck too, like hair balls etc. Yesterday his guy ahead of me had…

  • No problem! Good luck!
  • Agree with those who say get a referral for another doctor. I'd say go for a specialist - either an allergist (if you have allergies) or a respirologist. Normal everyday wheezing is not a good sign - this is not about your fitness level. You may need a different set of meds. I had the same problem a few years ago and…
  • Hi everybody! Just joined this group. Back in the water after a very long absence from the pool....like years and years...
  • I've recently started back to swimming after a long absence from the pool. Of courses there are many people in the giant double lane- breast stroking down the middle and making it near impossible to pass. I spoke to the lifeguard last week who told me the quietest time to come. I showed up today at that time and it was…
  • I'm in. Just got back into the pool three weeks ago. Swimming and calculating in metres. Presently going three days a week and just worked up to 2700m. Im hoping to hit 3000m on Wednesday.
  • I've just started back in the pool too- only three weeks ago. It feels good to be back in the water. Crappy shoulder and neck limits my speed now, but I'm just working on getting my endurance and distance up to something where I can start to do sets and drills again. Happy swimming everyone!
  • Add less water. Your quinoa will be drier. I use 1 cup quinoa to 1 3/4 water. Bring to boil. Turn down to simmer for 15. Dump it on a cookie tray when done and stick it in the fridge or freezer when you want it to cool quickly. Voila. Ready for salad in a jiffy.
  • My mom was done at 40. I started perimenipausing at 36. A was having constant bleeding and never ending periods for years. I had two d & c's to no avail and then my gyn did a biopsy to confirm I was approaching menopause. By 40 yrs I was getting desperate from chronic anemia and carrying around piles of pads 24/7. The gyn…
