After 35 hours, I'm happy to announce that it power has been restored! Now for a restful sleep.

Power is still out. Hope it comes back on soon, as my parents are on their way to our house to visit for the weekend. :#

@shanaber - join us here in Oklahoma and you can enjoy both! Lol. I got home from work to find that the power was out. Looks like it went out around 12:30 pm Thursday and is still out as of 3:00am on Friday. We had been running the generator to keep our refrigerator, water heater, and well pump running, but another storm…

@5512bf - Yeah, definitely the same system, it just hit you all a lot earlier. My husband works in Independence, KS, (I work in Tulsa, OK--about an hour straight south) and it hit there about 2 hours before it got to us. I find that interesting, considering that the storm was said to be moving at 75mph (but to the…

Well, I went down to the gym for a spin class today. All was going well until a tornado warning was issued about halfway through class. We were forced to abandon the workout and take shelter in the gym locker room for about 40 minutes. All is well here--I think it was just rotation and never actually hit the ground. Lots…

I got in another slow 2 miles on the treadmill today (12:00/mile or 5mph average). That brings me up to a whopping 3.5 for the month. I might just break 10 miles for July if I'm not careful. :D On the cat-calling/following discussion: I have had some pretty weird experiences myself. My long runs are always down the…

@greenolivetree - I have experienced this a few times. Unfortunately, I have never managed to nail down a cause, so I can't give any good advice. I will be fine one day, dying the next, then fine again on the following run. I have found that trying to push through that legs-on-fire feeling usually winds up in some sort of…

There is always a point in my run where I struggle immensely. Usually between miles 1 and 2. If I can force myself past that point, I can just cruise and be fine. Have you tried pushing post the 3 mile mark yet? You may find it gets easier if you can just push through.

You're welcome. :D

(Cue A Flock of Seagulls) And I ran, I ran so far awaaaay... Well, I ran...sort of. Max speed 5.6mph, average speed, 5.0mph. I did not, however, run so far away, as I was on the treadmill. I managed to run 1.5 miles (18 minutes), plus .7 miles of walking (14 minutes) as a very long warmup and cooldown. The ankle felt good.…

@TattooedDolphinGirl78 - I used to run every single day, 5 miles a day (this was a few years ago). I never got injured doing that...and I was ONLY running. Then again, I was younger then. I stopped running for a while after getting bitten by a dog (couldn't figure out a safe route to run, didn't have a treadmill, gave up).…

My workout was AWESOME, thank you! I decided to go to Power Hour (cardio/weights class). I had to modify some things (no jumping jacks, no jump-anything, modified burpees, knee pushups, etc), but I made it through and blasted away 530 calories (according to my HR monitor/fitness tracker, that is). Hopefully I won't be…

So, I have been reading and skimming the last few days. Congrats @MNLittleFinn on your half marathon and @michable on your full. Great times for both of you! I had my 4 week post op appointment yesterday. I have officially been cleared to exercise--any exercise! The only caveat being "if it hurts, don't do it." I have one…

@Elise4270 - I definitely think he could do it, as long as he trains consistently and increases mileage gradually. I looked up Hal Higdon's beginner half training plan and it's 12 weeks long and starts out with 12MPW (with a 4 mile long run). He's got 4 months to train up, so I think he should be able to manage it. Just…

You guys are awesome! Or maybe @Elise4270 & I are awesome for motivating you all to add to your goals. LOL Speaking of @Elise4270 - I do upper body weights all the time. I have incredibly wide shoulders, but I think they look better when more "toned." I mean, if they're going to be massive anyway, they might as well have…

I'm giving @Elise4270 a run for her money with a goal of 0 miles for the month. I may or may not be able to start doing some short runs at some point in July. I should have a better idea after my next post op on July 5th. I met all of last month's goals (0 miles, ditching the crutches, stitches, and boot and working on…

I did my Monday Power Pump class yesterday. I've improved enough that I was able to do some squats (no added weight, and was only able to go part way down, but it's something). I managed to do most of the moves the instructor prescribed for the class, but did modify some--knee (girl) pushups vs real push ups, knee planks…

My biggest race was the Route 66 Half Marathon. The half started at the same time (and shared a route with) the full marathon and marathon relay. There was also a 5k, but participation in that was much smaller. I think altogether it was about 15,000 people. That was fun, but also a complete zoo. I signed up late and ended…

I had about 120 posts to catch up on this morning, so I read some, then started skimming. Congrats @Stoshew71 on your awesome race performance! Congrats @Orphia on completing the half marathon distance! What's next on your list? Keep adding distance? Look for an actual HM race? @ereck44 - I'm still trying to lose weight,…

*drumroll* Today, I'm wearing tennis shoes! I had to wear my big clunky boot to get to the office, but changed into my tennies as soon as I got to my desk. I'm walking pretty well in regular shoes--in short, even steps. That's a big improvement from just a few days ago when I wasn't able to backstride with my left foot at…

@1TheQueenB - Body Glide helps a little. For me, it doesn't prevent bra chafe (though it does prevent thigh chafe, so I'm not sure why that's true). However, if I already have a sore spot, it helps keep it from hurting quite so bad and getting much worse. @5BeautifulDays - Totally agree on the sleeveless shirt in hot…

So, I've had a minor setback in my surgery recovery. When the sutures were removed, the nurse who put the steristrips on (I was not impressed with her or her attitude to say the least) did not put one over the very top part of the incision. Which also happens to be the part where the skin had been puckered up a little by…

Ugh, @skippygirlsmom ! I know all about what you're dealing with as far as the dog goes. I was out running down my road a couple years ago and got bitten by a dog, in the back of my knee. The owners had seen the dog come after me previously and had the courtesy to send their young (like 8 years old, maybe) daughter out of…

I just had to google the difference between eclairs and long johns, since I wasn't sure if there WAS a difference. Apparently, long johns are made from a yeast dough, while eclairs do not have a raising agent in the dough--instead using steam to create a puffy pastry. Learn something new everyday. But, in some parts of the…

Stitches are out! They did replace them with steristrips since it's only been 10 days since surgery, and she wanted to be extra sure the incision wouldn't pull apart. Still not allowed to get the incision wet for a few more days. I am, unfortunately, still required to wear the boot. Buy I'm approved to take it off in favor…

@Elise4270 & @greenolivetree - OK, I feel like I'm getting shafted here. I live between you two and current temp is 97 degrees with a heat index of 114 (36C and 46C, to you non-US folks). Of course, I'm not trying to run in it at this point, so I guess it doesn't matter that much, but still... @tacosticks - Wisdom tooth…

I'm still in the early recovery stage from my surgery, but I'll spill some extra details here. Sorry this is so long-winded, but I want to be thorough. I had surgery on my left ankle to remove an os trigonum (accessory bone inside the ankle joint) as well as to remove an accessory soleus muscle (an extra calf muscle…

I'd love to know who all in our thread has had surgery--especially those that affect the ability to run. What was the issue? What did the surgery involve? How about recovery--time, physical therapy, etc? Could be a nice future reference for anyone facing potential surgery to see some first-hand accounts.
-
@Elise4270 - good luck with your surgery! I'm sure it will go great and you'll be all mended up in no time! I go back to my surgeon on Thursday to have the stitches removed. This surgery and recovery has no been nearly as painful as I anticipated, if that makes you feel any better. Of course, I haven't started the PT part…

Today is my first day back at work. My mom dropped me off at the door, then headed back to Missouri. DH is going to pick me up on his way home from work tonight. I didn't think I could handle the 1/2 mile walk to and from the parking lot, and I was right. I ventured down to the cafeteria downstairs for lunch (took the…
