Win! and Win!

I'm 1 year post-RNY and still log religiously. Not logging is exactly what got me where I was. Surgery isn't magic and it won't compensate for bad habits; it only accentuates good habits. I've lost so much and come so far. I refuse to go back. That means I must log religiously.

It's a fact. Whether it's the WOE for you is another matter. Only you can answer that. If you're interested, I suggest you go to Low Carber Daily Forum and read the Launch Pad. It contains some good information including some generally accepted definitions of "low carb" and "keto" and other terms. I find a keto diet very…

40k steps equaling 18.2 miles today. I'm going to do a marathon by the end of the year. No doubt!

40k steps equaling 18.2 miles for me today. I'm going to do a marathon by the end of the year. No question.

Yep, I think I'm about there. I've actually *wanted* a full-length mirror more than once in the last couple of months. It's almost time I think.

It's helpful for me to pace my breathing with my footfalls. Breathe in for 4 steps, breathe out for 4. Once I get the breathing in rhythm, I vary the depth based on how I'm feeling. Now, if I can just get my knees and ankles to cooperate, I'll be good! Good luck!

I've had fibro for 30 years. I discovered that exercise helps, but it very rarely hurts me as long as I take it easy. It took me a year, but I've gone from less than 500 steps all day long to 10-15k daily. Give yourself a break on the bad days, but do a little. If it's a lap around your yard, do it. The more I did, the…

lol When hubby was not LC, I started making lists with pictures. He liked those! Now that he's LC, he reads labels as much as I do and will Lose. His. Mind. over carbs. Of course, shopping takes twice as long!

Ditto. If I'm eating 20 eggs a day, the discrepancy would matter. But I'm not, so I don't.

My husband has no sense of propriety. Also, I do love *kitten*, but that's because chickens are cute. I have a whole kitchen of them. ;) And a freezer full, because they're yummy! He didn't have surgery. He's using a LCHF diet for a year and eating just like me, only within the appropriate calorie levels, to see if he can…

Bourbon Seriously, the same thing I drink the rest of the year... water, tea, tisane, coffee. Outside temperature determines if it's hot or iced. I'm a huge fan of Harney and Sons. I've yet to have one that isn't delicious.

Thanks guys. I just hope we all remember that each road is different, but none of them are easy. We each have struggles and what we see from the outside isn't the whole story, but we'll get through it with support from our friends. Truth be told, most of my digital friends are more supportive and understanding than people…

Water is water. As long as your body tolerates the additives, go for it. I'd like to point out that bourbon is also water and my body tolerates it well. Especially neat on a cold night. js

My diary is open, so you can look anytime. I am on a doctor-ordered diet, so you can't look at portions. It's not terribly exciting most days.

I know the caloric and carb values of my supplements, but I don't log them. I can't stop taking them, so I just mentally say "work off another 55 calories" instead of logging that mess every day.

Thanks all. It's been quite a journey, but I appreciate all of you and how much easier you've made this for me. The support here has been phenomenal and it makes the tough days a lot easier. That's not the story I tell, but that's the truth!

It's good and bad. In the end, it's good. Knowing that someone is watching... well, it's like being a little kid again and Mom is watching. I was better behaved back then.

Yes, I was 2poufs until I decided I could stop calling myself "poufy".

Many "diet" bars subtract sugar alcohols, which aren't entirely carb-neutral as purported. My suggestion is always... start with total carbs. Once you're settled and comfortable with 20g total per day and you're fat-adapted, then experiment. Personally, I subtract fibre, but not sugar alcohols.

The longer you do it, the more data points you'll have. That's why I'm a huge fan of daily weighing and monthly measurements, because there are more success markers than the number on the scale.
-
Ditto everyone above. When I look at my weight loss from the last year, I see a lot of 1-2 week stalls where I lost nothing, then it starts again. That's a totally normal pattern. Trust the process.

Nailed it. Long story long: I had gastric bypass last January. Part of the post-op and part of the agreement by the insurance company to fork out about 500k over 5 years is that I agree to diet monitoring, so it's not like I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I don't mind the monitoring as much as I mind having to…

We started buying individual dinnerware pieces and just don't buy the "dinner" plates. They're enormous. We eat dinner off the lunch plates and I often eat from what most would consider a saucer. A serving of oatmeal fits into a coffee mug quite well and gives me a handle for my klutzy days, which is pretty much every day.

I started having hip and knee pain, so I went to my orthopedist. He basically told me that losing weight means our limbs lay differently when we sleep, so the pressures are different. He told me to tough it out for a few months, use some pillows for propping, and see if it went away. It did everywhere except my hips. But I…

2 things... 1. Quality foods. I'd rather eat less, but it be really, really good. So we buy more expensive butter and spices, better cuts of meat, and the vegetables we love even if they're expensive. 2. Fewer carbs. For me, bread, pasta, potatoes, non-green veggie carbs, are awful. I have trouble digesting them and I just…

Today is my 1 year anniversary. 1 year ago, I weighed 286lbs and couldn't walk 100 yards. Today, I weigh 159 and yesterday I walk/ran 15.75 miles.

Salted nuts of any kind and peanut butter. Either of those I can go waaaaaay overboard on.

My excuse was always "I've failed before, this time will be no different." Years of diet/exercise with doctors and dietitians and I had very little visible success. But a large part of that failure was that I didn't learn or document, so I saw no trends towards success. I did what I was told, I followed orders, but that's…
