rereading my post, I see I did not connect well some dots. Yes, Metformin is commonly prescribed for PCOS. Researchers know it can help but don't always know the mechanism of the "how/why". So...it's like a huge connecting chain: if Metformin works for PCOS and Metformin changes glucose levels and Metformin changes the way…

I think your doctor is fairly wise in this treatment because metformin causes your blood glucose to react differently. Your liver is directly involved in blood sugar control. By moderating your glucose control, it could take some pressure off the liver. And the liver produces SAM-e, which DOES affect greatly your emotions…

oh, pennell12, I see you are a teacher. Do you teach where there is a track field? I know some ladies at my school do a deliberate walk up and down the stairs and it doubles an unofficial security watch at the same time. Also, exercise can make your glucose go up temporarily but down in a couple of hours and that effect…

I have a home treadmill, so that makes it easier. I had a doc write a medical necessity note and that made it more affordable! I know if I have to leave the house, it will not get done - too many distractions and commitments. I have a set of uplifting tunes paced to gear me up to a good workout - for me. I'm jealous --…

Pennell12, I suppose that it is all personal to your own body. I've been diagnosed around 6 years, never been on insulin. My pre-diet carbs - honestly, I have no idea, but it was a lot of it 'healthy' carbs like oatmeal, quinoa. Maybe I can go back to those some day, but for now (as I sit eating a forbidden slice of pizza…

Thanks for sharing this. Yes, almond flour is expensive, but there are sales. Also, it's cheaper than my trips to the convenience store used to be each morning.

I'm on metformin, 1000mg twice a day. I am beginning to think it is too much and asked the doc if I could cut one of them in half. With the low number of carbs, the amount of medicine is making me woozy. When I started really cutting out carbs, I'd say it lowered immediately but a steady drop within about two weeks. From…

It's 116 degrees. I think I'll wait until winter to grill B)

thanks for sharing, MiamiDawn! Does yours look like a traditional loaf and able to get 16 slices? If yours does, then the calorie count for this recipe would be similar and a lot more cost effective.

108, better than it used to be yet not quite where I want it to be.

thanks both of you... wow, tatooed65, that is one MAJOR change for the better.

that's a very cool article and research! Thanks for sharing.

I'm new at this and I'm doing net carbs and in milder keto. My goal is 30 net, but most days I am at that or even 10 over. I'm choosing 10 of those to be Metamucil and Pom Juice. The research on Pom (5 carbs) is simply too good for arterial health not to do it. So I really struggle trying to eat veggies - even low carb…

This sounds tasty. Would you happen to know the total carb and fiber totals for the recipe?

first, congrats on surviving the freshman year and FAFSA. My son will be a sophomore and has gained 15 lb due to unlimited meal plan! His cooking is limited to a microwave, so consider yourself blessed with a hotplate and oven! Invest in a $10 oven thermometer and take it w/ you when you leave! I've been making the "Flax…

what spiralizer are you using? do you like it?

"Flax muffin in a minute" + yogurt; more costly but soooo awesome like a milkshake: Raw Fit Chocolate 1 scoop, 1 Tbs coconut oil + 1 cup Silk almond or cashew milk + ice and blend until it is like a slushy. Since it has so much plant protein and fiber, it keeps me more satisfied than just plain whey.

I follow a local coupon blog and she puts on sale items from all the major grocers in a list. Then you can price match at Walmart. Usually works, but sometimes it is tricky matching. If grocer has it .25 per each, and Walmart has it per pound, they won't match. But, I have saved substantially doing that. Also, if there is…

Thanks, gaelicstorm. Love the dog. Will check the BP. appreciate the info.

Is there a similar powder for almonds or other nuts?

I am consuming at least 12 cups of water/liquid a day. I have a Voss glass bottle that I refill. It holds 3.5 cups, so it is easy to keep track (well, sometimes I ignore that .5 and just figure it serves to keep drinking) but yeah, water is not something I used to suck down continually. Thanks, Sweets.

thx for the laugh :)

For spices, you can buy just the amount you need for a recipe in many stores - Winco ?, Sprouts, Whole Foods (more $) or check the health food section of larger chain stores such as Kroger/Fry's. Also, I forgot to say that there are some amazing organizations like Market On the Move which you can get 60 pounds of produce…

Depending on your location, there may be community gardens you could tap into or look at starting a patio garden for fresh veggies. Also, if there is a dollar store, often they have produce and canned products that can be nutritious, even organic. You just have to pass right on by the junk food. I follow a coupon blog and…

If calories are an issue, you might try Walden Farm's dressings. Zero calories. The Thousand Island dressing has the best reviews and I didn't think it was bad at all. Otherwise, seems like you got some awesome options folks have suggested.

I'm going to have my geek son walk me through the script to track net carbs, but one workaround I did was to create a custom measurement for net carbs. On the HOME, CHECK-IN area, you can create a custom measurement. When I obtain figures from taking carbs minus fiber count, I enter in the net carb number. I can more…
