  • I don't know where you are from...are you talking about 5 kilometers or miles? I am 50 and run my 5km in about 23-24 minutes and my 10km in about 45 minutes which is about 4m30s per km. But those times are on a track. When I go for longer runs and in park/trails/streets, my pace is a bit slower. In my early 40's I was at…
  • That why I wish more people would understand...whether is it gym, cardio...move it!! Find something you like so you don't need to push yourself mentally just to start your exercise but satisfy yourself by pushing your limits. The rest just follow.
  • It is good to have options. I gym, run/bike and walk 6 days a week. If I skip a gym day, will walk longer (as gym is low burning calories, could be replaced by walking). I think what is important is to "do it". Whether it is gym or cardio, as long as you "move it" it is all good. You better break the routine, have options…
  • I work out 6 times a week Nothing is free in this world. Hope people can learn from that. Nice work, keep it up :)
  • You should not be afraid. It will make you face reality!! On the good or bad side... I think you should make it a regular thing, but I suggest you do it first thing in the morning so it is almost under the same conditions. I suggest also to start to take measurements as your body shape will also change. Put all this on a…
  • It is good that you already started. Plain simple, see this as math. Nothing else, nothing more. You need a deficit of calories in order to be able to lose weight. Aiming for a deficit of 500 calories should get you one pound a week gives or take. - You cannot "try to stay around 1600". You have to be accurate with your…
  • That is right. Pictures and measurement.
  • Well, one thing we can agree. Whether you need to lose 5 pound or 50, those pounds did not get there quickly..so they hardly can go quickly!! I would also advise, always depend what is your main goal, to adapt your gym time accordingly. If you want to drop weight, you have to burn (way) more than you take. Therefore,…
  • Step by step...my sodium intake was more than double...cut sauce, soups and so. Started to buy accordingly. Unsalted butter, less salt bacon, etc. Now I get under allowance almost everyday. The best purchase I ever made, a kitchen scale. I eat cereal almost everyday. But once I get my scale, I realized I ate about 55-60g…
  • Don't worry...I think most of us all start the same way. You cannot expect to change all your eating habits overnight. One step at the time!
  • As we know, we need a deficit of 3500 calories to drop 1 pound. I looked at your daily and I don't think you are close to 3500...You need to make it an average of 500 per day. I would suggest to aim for 700 per days as not exact science to estimate calories intake as well as burned by exercises. But since you do not eat…
  • I don't think there is such thing as "sure" thing...Be patient, some weeks, you might get 3lbs down while nothing the next one. Since you also said being done with your first week, you will learn more as you go...we all do and learn from our habits that we change slowly but surely. Good luck on your road!
  • I hear you and hope people will see this as well; nothing makes you feel better than this accomplishment because no one else can do it! You are on your own and battle against yourself and your limits. But as much as you have to pay, the reward feel so good that it gives you the motivation, inspiration and desire to carry…
  • For sure if you count to the last calorie to make it happen you doing it wrong. But if you plan to burn an excess of 1000 calories a day and miss it by 20%, you will still lose weight. I just feel sorry for people spending 1 hour at the gym burning next to nothing because they probably had a snack before while they could…

  • I think you got your own answer Teddy...if you have been doing the same for a year and nothing move, you have to scrap it and do something else. Just like a cold, the body get use to routine and spend less energy when you do it. Focus on more cardio if your workouts are not mainly about it, or do more strength exercises if…

  • When this happens to me I feel like it's time to raise the bar. Instead of my usual 45-60 minutes run, I make it 1h30...so instead of burning 800-1000 calories, I would burn 1500-1600. I don't know what your "workouts" are made of, but 1 hour in the gym for about 400 calories against 1 hour cardio (run/bike) for about 800…

  • Nothing wrong with this!! I eat ice cream everyday...all about balance ;-)
  • Few things you have to know. First what is your goal? Is losing weight your main goal? If so, I will ask one question...what are you doing in a gym? People over estimate the "gym and weight lost thing". If dropping weight is your main goal, get your bum out doing cardio. One hour of gym might get you 250-400 calories…
  • It should be...I think gives me around 400 for 30 minutes about. But you run on treadmill and there is no counter board on that treadmill? That would help to estimate if there is data available like how many miles you do in your 45 minutes.
  • I don't think there is an "ideal" speed to lose weight... Push as much as you can. That's how you should do it. By "as much as you can" I mean make sure you spare your energy or endurance to last for an hour or whatever is within your limit. Nothing wrong with "overburning" ;-) Have fun!
  • Isn't is the point of doing exercises? Then you can eat as much as you want? I eat cake and ice cream everyday and still manage to get a calories deficit because I pay the price at burning them (between 1.5hr to 4hrs or 800 to 2000 cal burned). What life is all about if you can pleased yourself with nice food ;-)
  • Are you sweating at all? Maybe you are doing very slow runs to explain that? A 40 minutes run should burn calories and sweat and I am pretty sure it will. Probably just need time for your body to get use to. I normally drop between 3 to 6lbs after a 15-20k run and take 90% back in the next hours with water drinking. I…
  • Maybe it's a sign? Gym? Really? What for? You could buy a very basic 20-30lbs dumbbell with which you can do arms, chest, shoulder, legs, back and what else...Running on treadmill? There is no streets or parks where you live? So much more efficient and good at building muscles and endurance than treadmill. And so many abs…
  • Intense cardio will always burn more than gym exercises. You can burn 1000cal per hours running while about 300-400 doing gym in the same hour. But since you are beginner, you need to get there step by step. I would suggest to make walks and do what you can to run within, maybe some 1 minute intervals and built from there?…
  • As far as I am concern, I think lot of people over estimate exercises/gym and lost of weight. If your plan is to drop weight, then you should do high burning cardio exercises. Ex, one hour of gym= +-250-400cal burned. one hour of running = +-800-1000cal burned. I understand not everyone can do one hour run or 1h30 bike.…
