I eat bagged salad almost every day. I do realize it seems to be a somewhat risky product, but for me the risk is worth the convenience.

I'm 4'10", 53 years old and hypothyroid (although well medicated for that). Once my thyroid was medicated I had no trouble at all losing on 1200 calories a day. But I'm relatively active. I currently weigh 111 and according to my FitBit my average TDEE over the past week was 1731. Which I believe is quite accurate. What do…

Most frequently I feel overall weakness and head achy (often not a full blown headache, just a "not right" feeling). And brain fog/slowed mental processing speed. Weirdly enough, when I'm really very hungry my upper arms (and sometimes my shoulders) will ache. My stomach almost never growls, and when it does it's usually…

I have no idea what "clean" eating means to you. In our house I'm the cook. I eat the same meals my husband and teenage sons do. I just eat smaller portions.

My obstetrician would disagree with you vehemently. He always evaluates frame size during pregnancy because of how it impacts ability to deliver. But shoot . . . . he's just a doctor who also happens to be an adjunct professor at a medical school. I'm sure you know better than him. (Not.)

If step counting is a fad it sure is a long lived one. I think I bought my first Omron pedometer over ten years ago. And the aim-for-at-least-10,000-steps-a-day advice wasn't all that new even then.

I think a lot of us probably eat that way or something very similar. We almost always go out to eat dinner on Saturday and Sunday nights, so I consume more calories those days than on weekdays. My difference isn't nearly as great as yours, but if it works for you that's all that matters.

According to my container of Quaker old fashioned grits, a serving is 1/4 cup dry or 41 grams. I would weigh out 41 grams. Whatever that cooks up to is 150 calories.

I believe if anything my Charge HR slightly under estimates my TDEE.
-
The only way you could possibly lose 40 kg in two months would be to stop eating completely. Which is not recommended. A much more realistic goal would be losing 2 to 4 kg. per month. You can do that by figuring out what is a reasonable calorie deficit level for you and carefully weighing and logging all the food you eat.
-
Get your numbers (all of them--the full panel), do some research and make sure you agree with your doc that they're in a good range. Are you carefully weighing and logging everything you eat?
-
I've had my Charge HR for a little over six months. From the stats I've compiled I'd say mine is pretty accurate, and if anything it slightly under-estimates my TDEE. I do wear it on my non-dominant wrist and have it set as if I'm wearing it on my dominant one, and I tried very, very hard to make sure my stride length was…

The manufacturer recommended dosage of Benefiber for those 12 and older is two teaspoons taken three times a day. Did you ever try that? Or are you taking three tablespoons all at once? I can't tell from the wording of your post. Three tablespoons of Benefiber provides 13.5 grams of fiber. That doesn't seem like an…

I'm a petite female with hypothyroidism. Before I was diagnosed I was gaining weight rather rapidly on an 1100-1200 calorie a day diet. So it is very, very possible to gain weight on 1200 calories (or even less) per day. Once medication kicked in I began losing at a very satisfactory rate on the exact same calorie intake.…

Two days?? I wouldn't even be thinking of drawing any correlation. If you're like most people, your appetite increases/descreases for all sorts of reasons.

Too much fiber can be an issue for some people, and contrary to popular belief can make constipation worse instead of better. But for most people too much fiber isn't an issue and it probably is a case of more is better.

Sometimes I walk alone (at the mall or walking track). Most of the time it's me and the pooch. What do you think about? Nothing, usually. For me walking is kind of like meditating. It clears and stills my brain. How long are your walks? Anywhere from 25 to 60 minutes, typically. What time do you like to walk? As early in…

I mostly use half and half, but I've tried the whole Fairlife milk and it's pretty good, too.

If you feel sure you shouldn't be gaining on your current calorie intake then see your doctor. For almost a year I blamed my unexplained weight gain (and many other symptoms) on menopause. Turns out it was my thyroid. Once I was on medication and it had several weeks to kick in I started losing very nicely on the same…

Ha! I live with a DH who is a foot taller and almost a hundred pounds heavier than me, and so needs to eat a lot. And two teenaged boys -- and you probably know how they eat. For me it just comes down to willpower, and rationally realizing that their daily calorie needs are much higher than mine.

I weigh the kernels prior to popping. According to my jar of Orville Redenbacher's Original, 40 grams of unpopped kernels has 120 calories. Certainly there are always a few that don't pop, but it's insignificant. To me weighing the kernels prior to popping is likely much more accurate than attempting to measure something…

Ditto the others. A high TSH + symptoms = need for treatment or medication adjustment

Based on my weight loss and calorie intake over the last seven months, that formula wouldn't work for me. What they say is the maintenance calorie intake for a non-hypothyroid person would keep me maintaining quite nicely, and if I subtracted 200 from that it would result in a slow loss. (The preceding statements are true…

I haven't used it (yet), but Classical Stretch is a program I've heard rave reviews about. Some of the videos are available on YouTube, and the DVDs are on Amazon.

Sure. Years and years ago when the 10,000 steps a day thing first became popular I bought what was then a top-of-the-line pedometer, only to be a bit surprised and disappointed that I was regularly blowing well past 10,000 steps a day in the course of my normal activity.

I don't think it's abnormal to feel a little anxious when weighing. You've worked hard and you want the reward of seeing a lower number than last time. Unfortunately, the body doesn't work in a nice linear fashion and so we have to learn to deal with fluctuations. If it really bothers you it might be worth considering…

Sure. As others have said, weight loss is mostly about what you don't eat. That's easiest to control at home. Outside of school, I've never in my life exercised in a gym and hope I never have to. I don't find the idea of having to pay a monthly fee and drive somewhere in order to exercise around sweaty strangers and on…

Excellent post. Although the common wisdom on here is that most dieters under estimate how much they eat, I also found that w/o careful weighing I substantially over estimate. Weighing allows me to eat significantly more.
