  • Bring a salad with some protein in it. When you are making it, weigh your own portion, put it in a separate tupperware. Eat that and avoid everything else. Add some fruit if you like. Just because everyone makes and brings something doesn't mean you have to eat it. If anyone asks about it just say you are committed to your…
  • What everyone says is true. You can't guess or estimate calories. And you can't think "oh, I didn't eat that much" because a few hundred calories can add up quickly and it makes a difference. It doesn't mean you can't eat or eat some of your favourite foods, but you have to weigh your food and track the calories. It is…
  • I don't mind cutting another 100 calories (or working it off), but fasting is not for me, thanks. My family, friends, and colleagues would not survive it!! I need my blood sugar steady or I get super cranky.
  • Oh, and turn the pity party into some action.....read through the theads here for advice and start planning your meals to fit your calorie goals.
  • I hear ya! Had a similar experience. I was floored! I was in denial of how much weight I had gained. Every journey starts with a single step and here you are! You will lose.
  • Thanks. Glad to hear it's not unusual. I guess I was hoping for magic!!!! On the positive side, I will say that my current way of eating is sustainable and has not be too hard to follow (although there have been moments)
  • Congratulations on the 20 lbs in 5 weeks! That's amazing! And you can eat your ribs if you just measure and count the calories.
  • It is important for your children that you model generosity, selflessness AND how to take care of yourself, nurture yourself, and treat yourself. You teach people how to treat you (this includes your children). Your children have to see you taking care of yourself so they know that it's ok for them to take care of…
  • Welcome back and good luck! When I started exercising I was sore at first. But after 2 or 3 weeks it was much better. It's great that you found a class you like.
  • Not to be out of line but could you start looking for another job that would not put you in a difficult eating situation every day?
  • Here are two thoughts that might help you. There ARE people who do not like KFC (me, for example). Don't know why, but it has never appealed to me. I don't like pizza either, but I digress. Is it possible that you might not really like the food there? Sometimes it is good to really think about whether it's worth the…
  • Congrats on your motivation. But there is no tomorrow...only today.
  • You need to accept that if you don't eat enough during the day, you will feel hungry and not be able to resist bingeing. You are fighting biology trying to do that. Plan meals with protein and veggies. Spread your calories out during the day with 3 meals and a snack.
  • More exceptional advice! OP, thanks for starting this thread and also, take all of this good advice to heart! If you don't keep trying you'll never succeed. It will be slow but you can do it!
  • This is really good advice.
  • Back in the day when I was growing up (a NUMBER of years ago) my parents ate toast for breakfast and sandwiches at lunch every weekday. There was bread at dinner, too if you wanted it. They were slim (and they still are). The catch? Their portion sizes were small and they rarely eat between meals (a coffee or tea, maybe).

  • Weighing every day can make you crazy, so once a week is ideal. If you can handle more often do what you prefer. Just remember, weight loss isn't linear.
  • Log food AND exercise as accurately as possible. IT will help you see where you can make adjustments and I find it VERY motivating! Remember, exercise calories are only an estimate so I always err on the low side. If the treadmill says 100 calories, I really only think of it as 75 calories (so when logging, I enter a…
  • I started young, had an intense year (lots of sleeplessness, hot flashes and weight gain...mostly emotional eating) and now things seem calm! (and working on the weight loss!)
  • Just get back on track, drink lots of water, and it will come down pretty quickly
  • I also find reading the threads and participating helps. Also, accept that it will take some time. Believe in the numbers! (ie count all of your calories - weigh, measure and track!)
  • I think you're right. And while I am at the age for hot flashes, they have happily passed for me. I think it was all the sugar. yuk!
  • You look great! incredible transformation! Well done!
  • O................................M................................G..............................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!
  • Really great work and inspiring!
  • Welcome. Great approach. It will be an eye-opener, which, hopefully, will lead you to consider your food choices which will then lead to weight loss.
  • When you say you measured and at "pretty healthily" does that mean you tracked your calories? Were you accurate and did you stay under your calorie goal?
  • This is a great discussion. Useful tips for everyone. Re: fizzy drinks, I fill a glass with ice, add some lemon and lime wedges and add soda water...tasty substitute for soda and I really like it. The hardest part for me is learning patience! Accept that it takes time. The other great think I learned here is that I can eat…
