Afraid to weigh myself
I haven't been at this long (a week), but I have been tracking food and going to the gym. I feel like there may be a tiny improvement (I want to lose 50 lbs to start, maybe a bit more) BUT, I am afraid to weigh myself, in case there isn't any change. I know exercise can make your body look better without changing the…

Not new but introducing myself again
I am not really new but I have not been tracking for a week and it was bad (gained 4 pounds). I am feeling ashamed of myself, my size, my lack of control, and my laziness. I let one or two people at work "get to me" and I take everything personally, berate myself then eat my emotions. In the morning I am very optimistic…

Silly question perhaps, but where does the fat go?
I might seem silly, but I was wondering, does fat just melt away and we flush it out? (Is that why they say drink a lot of water when dieting?) I think heat is involved somehow but if fat is on/in our bodies what happens to it when we lose it?

Do you aim for a set # of exercise calories?
I know that it's all about cico but I am wondering if anyone sets a specific target for # of calories burned through exercise in a day or a week?

Not strictly a diet question...
For those of you who have lost some weight already, did it help improve your self-esteem? I have had a bad 24 hours in terms of eating and I'm sure it's because of stress and feeling not good enough, comparing myself to others and losing as I'm a 50 year old divorced fat woman. My thinking is that if I can lose enough to…

Slooooooowwwwwww........
I was scared to step on the scale....I am down 4 pounds in 3 weeks. Doesn't seem like outstanding dedicated work. I've been exercising a lot (60 minutes of aerobic activities three times a week and weights twice a week) and I feel like I've lost more than 4 pounds (maybe 7 or 8). Patience is a virtue and I've heard slow…

Forgive me MFP for I have binged.
I am mad at myself now. When will I learn I can't keep cookies in the house?! Sometimes I can have one or two and stay within my calories but today it didn't work. (I logged it though so it can stare me in the face!) Now, the weird thing is, since eating all of those cookies, I am hot! I feel like I'm going to start…

Advice please in 2 areas...stress eating and exercise.
Firstly, I have realized that I am an emotional eater. There is a forum here about emotional eating, but it doesn't seem to be very active. Going back to work on Wednesday after vacation and it's going to be hard not to stress-eat. Perhaps I need a good old-fashioned mfp shake. Or any advice on dealing with emotional and…

Barbell class or lifting heavy
I have been going to a one hour barbell class at my gym. It's a good workout. We do a lot of movements with a barbell and hand weights but and not really heavy weights. The idea is a lot of reps, lower weight. The problem is I have to arrive at the gym for a certain time and I do find it a bit boring. Or, I can go when I…

Advice for work cafeteria
Any advice for dealing with the work cafeteria? I know I could just bring my own food, but here's the thing - it's free! (perk of the job) I can get breakfast and lunch free at work so why pay to bring my own food. Breakfast is cereal or toast and the lunch is a different meal every day. Part of me says bring my own lunch…

New with questions
Just starting out. Goal is to lose 50 or 60 pounds. I've been reading some of the posts and there's lots of good info here. Reading these forums will be my new time-suck, when I"m supposed to be working and cleaning. Anyway, I have some questions if anyone can help out: 1. Does drinking water really making a difference for…

50 and want to lose at least 50!
New here. Many questions. Gained lots of weight after my divorce. Now would like to lose and *maybe* date again (yikes!) Just looking around now. Feeling hopeful that myfitnesspal will help.
