It's just an estimate. That's why. When I plugged my activities into MFP it always gave me a generic 500-600 calories for Zumba which I knew had to be high because I had some orthopedic stuff resolving & I knew the intensity level I was dancing at was slightly lower. My Fitbit HR confirms that I burn anywhere between about…

Sometimes I go on very long, very arduous hikes (15 miles and up, lots of elevation changes). I find its just not practical or palatable to eat enough to fuel those days as they happen. I'll often find myself in a much larger deficit than I really want and I add a small extra meal the following day, usually an extra…

Check the BMI tables. It's fine to be a little over if you're well muscled & athletic. It's rarely fine to be under. Where's there's body dysmorphia smoke, there's usually fire...

Some days I love a big traditional breakfast. Other days I just have coffee & eat a snack when I get to school. I'm having wasabi flavored almonds this morning.

It is correct that fitbit burns for the day include your baseline. I for instance get about 1400 on days I'm sedentary. Skip the nonsense about your exercise 'baseline' that's bro science right there. You will not increase your muscle strength or your cardiovascular capacity doing what you normally are accustomed to do,…

Here's a screen shot of my normal Friday. I work as a school sub for 6-7 hours, walk to a downtown Zumba class and then walk home. I'm a woman in my 50's who currently weighs in the 160s. I eat at a 300-500 calorie deficit and lose about .9 lbs a week on average. I find my Fitbit HR very reliable.

You know what I like when I'm bored with 'breakfast' food? Those veggie patties at Costco. The don lee ones. Delicious! I heat one up in a cast iron skillet and it makes a lovely breakfast.

On road trips I walk a lot and eat two meals instead of three. Ditto for airport days. But in New Orleans I EAT ALL THE FOOD. All of it! And I drink. A lot. Sorry, that's just New Orleans for me.

FYI: joking about 'looking anorexic' is really sort of silly, and verges on humble bragging. Anorexia is a terrible medical condition and in my experience the only people who truly 'look anorexic' are the actual anorexics. Other folks are just slim or slightly built. If your body fat has never dipped below the 20's in…

This whole discussion is kind of bassackwards if you ask me. You should probably focus on body fat percentage instead. Some body types won't go below certain sizes even at the lower end of healthy body fat percentages due to skeletal realities. I'm a person who goes quickly down through jean sizes for instance, but I have…

It's going to change as you go, at least in my experience. I have no cellulite on my thighs or buttocks, never have. That's genetics. But as I've lost weight some dimpling has become visible under my arms (kind of the side boob area, sorry to be graphic!) and across my belly. It is not stable because it's overall…

Yes. Our Piedmontese cousins near Milano are tiny little things in narrow black Prada knock-off dresses! Eat just one big meal like this a day, with a small bite the other two meals and walk or bike everywhere and see what happens... It's a lifestyle

Just had barilla's protein spaghetti with homemade Piedmontese meatballs last week when my daughter was home from college. So. Damn. Good.
-
Yes I would rather eat it less often and enjoy it to satiety when I have it!
-
Dry with food scale is right. I rarely eat pasta, but when I do I go for the big 3.5 oz dry serving. Very satisfying, esp. if you use barilla's protein pasta.

At first it was really fun & my friend gave me her hand me downs which made it so easy. That was when I went from a 12 to a 10 and then again from a 10 to an 8. Now the 8s are all getting huge and it's not as fun because I actually have to shop. And I planned on stopping at size 6 but now I'm not so sure that will work out…

I agree. Too much snacking. Even when my girls were young (now 13 & 20) some mothers didn't leave home without it looking like they were portaging a segment of the Lewis & Clarke expedition. People also like to use use hunger as an excuse for bad manners in children in my opinion. But in fairness to children everywhere,…

Not okay... sublime! Try the Professor Fizz from Whole Foods for a walk on the wild zero calorie side.

Hahaha... I'm married into a northern Italian clan. There's no avoiding it! Actually, the finer the restaurant the broader your choices will be. If you only ever get Olive Garden quality Italian you'll walk away with a poor stereotype in terms of calories. Like I said: risottos that aren't overly cheesy and are made with…

I have nothing constructive for you I'm sorry. I just wanted you to know that as I scanned headers I read 'Anti Canada' diet. And was puzzled.

Oh jumping back in with a homemade dry shampoo recommendation for brunettes: plain cocoa powder sifted with some arrowroot powder is lovely & effective. (Gosh: can you tell I'm from Sonoma county in Northern California or what? I'll just slip my birkinstocks back on at the door and take the recycling out with me as I leave…

I started with just walking and hiking! I think it's wonderful. After that's your routine, see how that feels. I believe the people who say that human bodies were designed with the intention that they would move slowly a lot of the time, move quickly a little bit of the time, and lift heavy things on a regular basis. So I…

I do that when I need a break! Fast, slow, sometimes sideways... it's all part of the journey.

For dessert consider an affogato. It's usually a pretty reasonably sized scoop of vanilla gelato served in a shot of hot espresso. Ask them to leave out any sugary added liqueurs. Total deliciousness & a much leaner choice than anything on the pastry cart!

I find risotto is a decent choice, or a roasted meat. If I get a pasta I see if it comes in a smaller plate option. If a huge plate is the only way it is served I ask for a box right away and do my portion control before I start to eat. I generally don't eat out much, so I don't worry if it's a splurge. But those are my…

Listen to Pav. He's one of the best here. I think the wipe idea sounds good. You could even make homemade reusable ones like I did when I had babies. Just google for instructions. That way you skip the additives. I like using a little coconut oil and/or tea tree oil for their natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal properties.…

If you have a working liver and pancreas and you urinate and defecate at a normal rate, voila! you're already cleansed.

Recalibrate your expectations. This will help you in so many areas of life beyond just weight loss.

Yes, it's one meal. Treasure the company. I usually make those opportunities a 'treat' because I never have a problem getting back on track, but if that worries you proceed like any other meal, compose a healthy plate and don't go back for more.
