  • I second nutritional yeast! Confession: I rarely go to the movies but when I'm there I love a bag of that ungodly movie popcorn with fake butter and I even smuggle in a bag of nutritional yeast for THAT! Ya, I'm a complicated person. But try it. It's delicious. You'll need something like a spritz of spray oil at least to…
  • I like a good stability running shoe for all purpose walking and cross training. But feet are different. Maybe ask at your gym.
  • I experienced sleeplessness during peri menopause. Since I had a new baby and did hospice for my mother concurrently there were lots of potential 'reasons' but in the end it felt hormonal. I finally gave up. I read novels. Then after a night or two of that and a couple of naps I would sleep better again. I don't mean to…
  • @strong_curves : same here! Perishable goods have gotten very expensive. And just like our larger society, the middle is being chipped away. There are two 'classes' of groceries now, we try to buy the better, more humane, organic & grass fed options; the dollar stores springing up have cheap food options but some of those…
  • I do a menu for the week & shop when I get of work on Saturdays. This week: Grilled pork chops with baked potatoes & broccoli Pecan crusted chicken cutlets with pink grapefruit & avocado in green salad Grilled sandwiches & green salad Texas style bison chili with beans & cornbread Chinese chicken salad Risotto with sausage…
  • Yes, better to focus on YOUR work: adequate sleep, accurate tracking, sustainable calorie restriction, engaging work out activities and let your body set the weight loss schedule.
  • No! I'm in the Dorothy Parker camp: 'Never complain, never explain.' I have one designated weight loss buddy & we tell each other everything!
  • In stability running shoes with orthotics I was able to keep walking & heal from a case in one foot. I'm a sub teacher so I'm on my feet anyway. I gave up fashion sneakers, flats, and boots for one entire semester (about five months). It's an old injury for me that comes & goes anyway. I wore only running shoes that entire…
  • I just started strong lifts 5x5 with my friend TODAY!! Two middle aged special ed teachers! We are going slowly due to individual injuries, disparate strength levels and concerns about developing good form. We have started with a naked 20 lb bar & will only progress when we feel ready even if it's slower than the program's…
  • At the end of every day, though, Fitbit gives me about 50 calories less than MFP. Despite them being set to the same goals, activity levels etc. I do not log activity twice and only my food thru MFP.
  • Hahaha @kshama2001 I work out a lot and I really like to read novels... I don't have a very clean house!
  • And I eat a lot. Last week I was in a 500 calorie deficit every day and eating between 1700-2100.
  • Yes knowing what you really burn is key. I'm over 50 and 10k steps does diddly squat for me. I try to get 100k a week and it's the last 25-30k that work the weight loss magic. Hills. Hikes. Intervals. Splits for time.
  • It's your honeymoon... Enjoy yourself! I have been on one cruise, so of course I am now an expert, hahaha! I went on a carnival cruise & the food wasn't that compelling. I'm from northern CA, which is a food paradise. Breakfast was easy because I had boiled or poached eggs every day with ham, sausage or bacon and a little…
  • You are not going to lose that fast at that end of the weight loss spectrum. You have to be content with a slower fine tuning.
  • Or, enjoy what you REALLY want within reason & fit it into your weekly total. Not hard at all.
  • No. But I do count my Fitbit steps so that measures all activity, period. I put my HR into workout mode when I hike or Zumba. I also don't count normal gardening, fence painting, etc either. But if I were doing an activity that elevates my heart rate for an extended period & replaced a normal workout I have. Like snow…
  • You should really repost this in the maintenance threads. Lots of successful folks with good ideas there!
  • Maybe you just need a little break from what you have been eating. Maybe go super simple for a week or so?
  • Also, not completely sure this will be helpful in your case, but check to to see if deficit is too aggressive in your settings.
  • So what you are saying is you want to use MFP's TDEE estimate rather than Fitbits actual calories burned? I have to say I prefer Fitbit's numbers. If I am truly sedentary for a day Fitbit will keep me in a deficit, and the calorie burns I get from Fitbit are more realistic. MFP calculates a generic burn & was giving me 250…
  • Wasn't this a Tracey Anderson thing a few years ago? Anyway, it sounds like a rather expensive way to eat a tiny amount of something really bland!
  • Well if you let that kind of thinking stop you, yes. Life is going to continue to be life-y... Roll with the punches. Restart right where you are, today. You'll still get there.
  • There are very lean athletes out there who are high on the BMI scale. Not dramatically, but higher than you might think. It's just a rule of general measure. If you're at the high end of healthy what's the problem? If you want to recomposition I would say try to form a clearer goal than just some random BMI number...
  • @thereshegoesagain I'm pretty convinced I'll need to be this active forever... Use it or lose it!
  • Ha! I lived in Pittsburgh for 4 years...The newscasters do LURVE their stormporn there! And I've seen the aisles of Giant Eagle stripped bare with a storm impending. I love being cosy inside watching a storm but all that swirly snow does make me hungry. Enjoy and be safe everybody. My thoughts are with any of you who have…
  • Yes, you're probably closer to maintenance than you think... I've done much the same. I lost a little over 20 in the fall semester when I joined MFP but I've been plateaued from mid December. I intended to spend a few weeks at maintenance, not six weeks! When I went back and analyzed my weekly deficits I can see that they…
  • Mmmmm yes... Had a garnet IPA at Petaluma Hills tap room on my way home from work today. I Zumba like a pole dancer who's short on her rent for those darn beers!
  • The struggle is real. That's all I've got.
  • Cute idea! I love it. I buy myself things that are fitness & outdoor related when I hit milestones. I prefer 'incentives' to 'deadlines'...
