I put all the ingredients into the recipe builder to calculate the total batch cals and when I am done cooking, I will weigh the entire batch and my serving to work out how many serves per batch. Alternatively, I weigh the entire batch and divide by the number of serves I was supposed to get so that I can calculate how…

Even on a super fit person, a normal healthy stomach has rolls when they bend. You have an unrealistic impression of what it means to be fit and healthy. Even a healthy, super fit athlete still carries fat because that is a normal part of the human body. What you call "love handles" are your body's natural fat stores and…

OP is seeking to become underweight. I'm not comfortable with offering weight loss advice....

I've been using natvia for years and really love it. The other product you mention I have not tried. I have never felt like natvia makes me crave sucrose or other sugars. I threw out all the sugar in my house and replaced it with natvia anyway. When I moved to the US from Australia I started using truvia (which I also…

For some people, the act of avoiding a food entirely is actually less difficult than attempting to eat it in moderation. My own personal theory on this is that they are actually craving the quantity of a certain food rather than the food itself. Reduce the quantitiy to something reasonable and that food item becomes 100%…

I have certain "no-go" foods that I can't keep in the house but my diet is not what you would call "strict" at all. I think you are making a bit of a false assumption. Apart from about 5 or 6 very specific food items, I can eat whatever I want. And I do. I don't limit carbs or fats or proteins individually and if I want to…

Unfortunately, if you are in a phase of your weight loss journey where you have to remain extremely strict with calories, the only way to truly know what you are eating is to carry the food with you in your suitcase. When I was doing a lot of travel in my job a few years ago I did exactly this. I even had to get a bigger…

I am the same. Certain foods I will binge on. I have been known to eat over 2 quarts of ice-cream a packet of biscuits and 1000cals of salami in one sitting (many times over). It's unhealthy both mentally and physically (yes I have a psychiatrist). If these foods, and various others, are not in my house (and I avoid them…

+1 Lyle McDonald's book (The Rapid Fat Loss Handbook) is all about dangerous crash dieting (encouraging the practice) and promises to help you lose 20lb in two weeks among various other ridiculous claims. You wont find a reputable scientist in the same field that considers this to be healthy. Just because Lyle claims to be…

I can cram a LOT of chicken into a cup. I'll never go hungry!!

Drat, now we are going to have to instead look out for a new user name with a 40 inch waist and disapproving girlfriend...

I'm not refuting as such because I don't actually have an evidence but are you sure it's exactly the same in terms of calorie burn? when I start walking my heart rate takes at least 2 minutes or longer before it reaches equilibrium and the walk certainly feels easier for that period. Surely overall the average heart rate…

What she should be eating and what she feels like eating are two very different things...

Even if starvation mode existed you would still lose weight. Just less of it. Some years ago, an obese man ate nothing for a year under close medical observation. He only consumed vitamin tablets to ensure his body got the nutrients it needed but otherwise ate nothing at all. He went from 207kg to 82kg. Eating nothing for…

That's a bit of an unfair question. A lot of people who begin reducing their portion size lose some appetite after a while. Sometimes it's temporary and sometimes it's permanent. You and OP both know exactly how people gain weight.

I got way overexcited because I understood an arcane yogscast reference in the comments at Imgur. YES.

I was living in Australia until 3 months ago, does that count? (I am an Aussie citizen) I am pretty active in the forums, log everyday, weigh everyday, exercise almost everyday and my diary is fully open for all to see. Anyone is welcome to friend me too!

Aussie living in California here. Going from 170 down to 140 as well. Aiming for Christmas! I am pretty active on the forums and I have an open diary so anyone is welcome to friend me!

Also, the only thing bad for you about carbonated zee cal drinks is the acidity. It's around the same as vinegar and horrible for your tooth enamel. So finish off by drinking some water too. Swish out the acid before you're done. Problem solved.

Australia has one low cal drink the Americans don't and I miss it like you wouldn't believe! I lived on it before I moved to the U.S. Solo extreme lemon. Not zero cal, but close. around 150kj-200kj per 1.25l bottle (can't remember exactly) so still very small. Almost Small enough to ignore in my opinion. Boy did it taste…

I have a strict rule never to eat a packaged meal just as it is from the store. Buy as many different types of frozen vegetables, meat (ground meat divided into 100g portions before freezing is ideal) and fruit as you can. Use microwave dinners as your base meal and add handfuls of your favourite vegetables and/or meat…

I played an old game that was a bit different but really enjoyed it: Papers Please :-)

lol its hard to offer advice without being able to see you but here goes: I think the heels are great for pear shape because they stretch out your body making it look longer (and make larger thighs look more in proportion). If you are going with yoga pants I would go for the ones with a loose lower leg (flared even, if you…

I like to tell myself that the statistics only refer to people who have already attempted weight loss in the past. They do nothing to predict the future for those only starting today. People using MFP could be the beginning of a new trend and I really genuinely believe that could be true. The first time I lost weight 10…

Even the milder cases (where exercise can be relatively "normal") benefit from focussing on heart rate. The main metrics you seek to improve are lowering heart rate given the actual level of activity (ie walking at 3km/hr, or 10km/hr! for three months but focussing on reducing your heart while you do it) and reducing the…

Unfortunately for those who find exercise tough, exercise is currently the accepted way to combat the fatigue. My specialist has huge problems finding ways to get some of his more severe patients exercising. Many of his patients have to start off lifting cans of vegetables lying in bed! They often have to do this for…

I'm someone who has a HUGE wardrobe of clothes and while I don't consider myself to be a fashion guru, many of my friends often comment positively on what I wear and ask for my advice when shopping :-) Having been very overweight (twice! Long story) and quite skinny I have become a first-hand expert at dressing well for…

No no. don't interpret what I said as meaning exercise makes things worse! not the intention. Cardio exercise especially can actually alleviate low blood pressure symptoms and dizziness significantly and is very much encouraged. The only problem is that a lot of people with low BP have a lot of trouble doing enough cardio…

CSIRO total wellbeing diet books one and two. Teach you all about nutrition and how to lose weight based on the latest science. Also had tons of recipes, shopping guides and exercise regimes you can do without expensive equipment. Even if you don't plan on following their diet, it's a really good set of books to trawl for…
