Calorie counting definitely helps. Did this a few years ago and lost weight without hardly doing any exercise. Back on it now doing both

I know what you mean. I'm scanning and every single food item I'm about to eat to see the cals. Quite surprised by some of them. Usually end up eating something else/reducing the amount or taking our some of the ingredients.

You can do this! Like the others have said, breaking down your target really helps. Doesn't seem that daunting if it's a small weekly or monthly target.
