  • Agreeing with the others that it's likely caffeine withdrawl. It should only take a week or so for that headache to stop popping up...so long as you don't cave and go back to drinking more again. ;)
  • Yeah, it really boils down to personal preference. I like working out right after I get home from work (do not pass go; change directly from work clothes to workout clothes without even thinking about it) and then eating dinner.
  • An easy way to engage your core is to always maintain good posture when standing (and sitting) and use those correct midriff muscles to do so. When standing, try to make yourself taller. When sitting, don't slouch or hunch.
  • Walking is one of the things I do for exercise, though not the only thing. I love all the photos of your walking paths (and canine companions)! Thank you everyone for sharing them. My walking is all urban.
  • I know people with the Charge HR that they've owned for a long time (year or more) and they *used to* get five days' use pretty regularly between charges. But then they did that firmware update this past fall, and BLAMMO everything went hooey. :( Sync problems, time problems, notification problems, and battery problems.…
  • Along this same line...do not refill your water on the same "trip" when you're going to (ahem) empty! Stagger it right, and you will be getting up from your desk twice as much!
  • What I did, back when I swam, was give myself a time bracket. I would swim for a half hour "solid." In the beginning I was pausing between each and every lap, but I didn't stop until that half hour was over. Over time, I tired less easily so I was pausing only every other lap, then every three laps, then...you get the…
  • I particularly like the ones that come with shallow and deep squares that use the EXACT SAME LIDS. Squares also stack and form rows efficiently. Either Ziploc or Gladware are fine. One step up from disposable so they're cheap, and while they don't last as long as the sturdier plastic ones they do last for quite a while.…
  • I completely agree!
  • Well yeah, YMMV and it's all to your personal preference. Isn't it great that MFP allows us that flexibility to find a configuration that works for each of us? :) I keep myself at sedentary as well, but that's mostly because my activity level is so uneven between weekdays vs weekends. I have negative calories enabled and…
  • I've been using EA Sports Active 2 for the Wii, for going on three years now. It came with sensors that strap on to one arm and one leg. The arm sensor has a heart rate monitor, the same two-green-LED kind that's now in trackers like fitbit's Charge HR. So my heart rate is up in the corner of the screen the whole time.…
  • Definitely some kind of activity tracker tied to MFP will help. With a fitbit brand one, you'll want to log all excercise over in fitbit and only in fitbit and log all food in MFP and only in MFP, and the two will share the summary data. There's a good fitbit group here on the MFP forums with details on how they work…
  • OK so you're apparently *more* active than you're estimating. A fitbit (or other tracking device that ties to MFP) can help with that too! It will adjust your calories upward, and your macros will scale to match so you can make sure you're getting enough protein etc. :)
  • Part two, inspired by rereading: Kirkland Greek yogurt in the large tubs, which I dish out into small Rubbermaid containers along with the aforementioned Three Berries to make my own fruit-on-bottom yogurts with far less sugar. Kirkland brand peanut butter *rocks.* Two giant jars for somewhere around ten bucks, and it's…

  • Coffee! (3lb for $15 and it's not just OK it's *good*) Bathroom tissue, paper towels, facial tissues. Unsalted Mixed Nuts, canned tuna, soups. Dry cereal, sometimes. Large canisters of McCann's Irish Oatmeal. Sliced turkey/chicken for sandwiches that come in multi-packs so it's not all opened to the air at the same time.…

  • These exercises will build/strengthen the muscles in your legs, but muscle does not burn "local" fat as others have said. The fat loss will come around in an indirect way.
  • If all you care about are steps, the Zip is only around fifty bucks It uses a replaceable 2025/2032 battery that lasts for several months (vs recharging) and it's tiny. On a clip (or in a pocket) instead of a bracelet. I've had mine for over three years now and still love it.
  • As others have said...just go! Whether you want to or not, whether you think you're "too tired" or not, JUST GO. After a while (several weeks of going regularly) it will become a habit and you'll start noticing the effect of the endorphins. Instead of "Oh, I'm too tired to go to the gym," you'll find yourself thinking "Oh!…
  • You could also try the "Zombies, run!" app on your smartphone, if you have a smartphone that you carry with you on your runs. It turns a normal jog into a game that's also HIIT (sort of) as you have bursts of sprinting to outrun the undead.
  • Also check the Zip device itself-does it have the "low battery" indicator again like it did in November? If you're far away from your computer/phone (in another room, say), the app will frequently misinterpret a weak signal as being from a low battery and will send you that notification.
  • Give a nod to your "inner child" and buy a colorful pair of Wellies and a big, bright brolly (so you can be seen)...and stomp in a few puddles while you're out there!
  • Look at the old Tarzan movies from the 40s...those actors (IIRC there were more than one over time) were Olympic swimmers! The first one was for sure.
  • Lean turkey sandwich made on whole grain bread with cheddar (or your choice of) cheese. All three macros get bumped up nearly equally right there, for about 450-ish calories depending.
  • I have no intention of decreasing how much cardio I do, because I'm not doing the cardio for weight loss I'm doing it for heart health per doctor's instructions. But this thread has convinced me (not that I needed convincing, mind you) that the resistance training I'm doing isn't enough and it needs to be *increased.*…
  • I've enjoyed canned tuna since before I started watching my weight.
  • There were studies that showed dairy can help with weight loss because of the protein, both filling and it helps with muscle building. So I'm with the others here saying if it doesn't cause bloating or other digestive issues FOR YOU, go ahead and eat/drink it if you want it.
  • Losing inches is exactly what I'm trying to do. I don't even own a scale: I weigh myself maybe once a month when I'm at a friend's house. Seriously.
  • It's partially genetics and partially biology. Women lose belly/hip/rear fat last just in general, because having fat there used to "help" when a woman is pregnant. But the energy from fat is taken by the blood that's going through your body once every ten seconds or so and then given to the muscles, not by the muscles…
  • I've been using EA Sports Active 2 for the Wii for going on four years now...it came out right as I was outgrowing the "fit plus" CD that came with the Wii Fit balance board I'd gotten the year earlier. It comes with sensors that strap on one leg and one arm and the arm one has a HR monitor (same green-LED technology…
