  • Lydia, I would keep on doing what you're doing for another month. Also, start to take waist measurements etc. so you are not only relying on the scales to see your progression. It may be that, as others have said, your fat loss is being masked by other factors. Edit: Also would you be prepared to open your food diary so…
  • I think I would be depressed if I lost my sense of smell, even if it meant weight loss. But an interesting study. If the same consequences are seen in humans, I wonder if the risks would be greater or less than weightloss surgery for the morbidly obese. (checks calendar - not april 1st?)
  • Not heard of it before. What's it about?
  • I think it's important to keep eating the food you really love and want - and intend to eat for the rest of your life. Just gotta start to weigh it out and eat it in portion sizes that meet your calorie goals. I would also set a less aggressive goal of a pound a week. The hardest thing is accepting that it's going to take…
  • You're my inspiration today. Thank you for sharing your pictures and success. And I love that dress you're wearing with the roses

  • That deserved an awesome - been on MFP for ages and didn't know that!
  • Hi Angela, I would suggest that you log consistently and daily for a month - using a food scale and including the days when you go over your goal. (Set your diary to private if you are worried about people judging you for eating more than your goal. I say that because I see you tend to only log days when you are under your…
  • Yup, I've done that exact same thing before and not just with cheese! Whoops!
  • I'm undecided about the health benefits that are often mentioned with regards to IF, but I do it as it is easier for me to maintain a calorie deficit by eating this way. I sometimes do the 5:2 especially if I know I'm going to have a heavy eating day during the week because of reasons. Otherwise I try to stick to eating…
  • I think this needs a bump ... Hope everyone in the UK is doing well!
  • I've about 60 pounds to lose so it's very motivating to see that it can be done in a year. Thanks for sharing your pics and congrats on your weight loss - you look amazing :)
  • I would agree with aemsley. You look great and you should be proud of your weightloss achievement. Go for some fitness goals rather than scale goals! Thanks for sharing your pictures and story.
  • I love your attitude! Well done on putting in the work to look so good!
  • Your tiny waist is amazing in the third pic - it's great to see that 140 pounds can look so good after a recomp.
  • The NHS (national health service) in the UK has a 12 week programme which looks to be solid and sensible. Check it out and see what you think. I don't follow any particular plan myself. Just trying to maintain a calorie deficit using the tools here at MFP. http://www.nhs.uk/livewell/loseweight/Pages/Loseweighthome.aspx
  • I love this! I also have problems with continuing after some success and this may be something that will help me. I'm also starting to join challenge groups here on MFP to keep me focused.
  • Along with the other great suggestions, perhaps you can also start to look for friends in different circles who don't meet up just to eat and drink, who perhaps are also looking to meet people socially but without the emphasis on food. For example, I go to a book group that meets once a month and yes, there is a lunch, but…
  • Hey Casey, what sort of help do you need?
  • I'd agree with the advice to set small goals. I'm currently focused on the next 5 pounds for this month. If I had to think about the whole amount I need to lose and how long it's going to take, I'd cry. Or rather, not cry but be very down. So yeah - small goals!
  • You could hit quote and then delete the quote tags in the reply box! I copy pasted my last post and then changed what I needed to change before posting.

  • Do you have an item of clothing that is now too small for you, but you used to wear easily? I'd use that as your guide for weight loss, try it on every fortnight and when it fits nicely, you're done. If you aren't sure what weight to aim for - this links to the NHS calculator for BMI:…
  • If you want to up your calories a bit (as you are being advised to do to help your training), but don't want to start snacking or eating extra meals, just eat the same stuff but start to slightly increase the portion sizes perhaps. Also if you've been doing this for a while, you can get a more accurate picture of what your…
  • At first I used the estimations from MFP and after a months worth of logging and weight loss results, I work out my own TDEE and take it from there, reviewing it monthly for adjustments. So at the moment I have a goal of around 1250 cals which should let me lose 5 pounds over a month.
  • I dunno. I'm finding it interesting and perhaps relevant for those who have only a few pounds to lose but who are mistakenly going for an overly aggressive rate of weightloss for a quick solution, not realising they may be hurting their non-fat mass rather than losing fat only. While the study it comes from is only…

  • Veggies. It's hard to see the chicken leg on my plate because of all the veggies piled on there. I used to eat what I thought were decent portions of veg but I didn't feel full. So I doubled them up. Now they are filling. I buy frozen veg for ease and for lack of waste. Cheap, filling, low cal.
  • I take a multi-vitamin and a fish oil daily. Only started to do so last Autumn. I've always been a bit sceptical of supplements but my hair was starting to get thin and I'm in my late forties so I thought I should give it a go. I've noticed benefits - my hair is defintintely improved and I no longer have period pain. That…

  • Thanks for all the responses so far. I'll be checking out the links this afternoon! I'm not planning to go on an extreme aggressive diet btw ... I'm currently losing at 5 pounds a months and am happy with that - but had just never seen it stated before that there was a limit to how much fat could be lost a day and was…
