  • No, it's not harmful. Continue. Your average calorie intake is fine. Eating less on occasional days will not be harmful.
  • Good for you in recognizing what you need to do! Good luck!
  • I'm trying to quit the evening snacking in front of the TV too. As a result my nails are currently beautifully manicured ... :p
  • I suspect you may get the best answer by asking those shorter women you come across who swear they only strength train. :D
  • If some days you are having 1800 and others 1200 and its averaging out to 1500 a day looking at the whole week - and if this is working for you in that you find it sustainable and not torturous - then okay. You're then hitting the recommended minimum. As others have mentioned, you're unlikely to gain any muscle. But if…
  • @brichards the problem with the suggestion you gave is that you didn't then appropriately explain how it might address the situation. The OP is experiencing a plateau. Suggesting 'Try high carb low fat vegan' doesn't really address the situation unless you then explain why this might help their stall in weight loss. If…
  • mabearof6 well done for sticking to your food goals despite difficulties. Wine and chocolate are starting to sound good to me too by now :) flossy - a dedicated thread sounds like a plan for the daily logging challenge - I might check in the morning after a day of logging rather than at the end of the day.
  • I'm sorry that you are so upset. I get it. I look back at my graduation photos from uni and wish that I liked one of them enough to display, but I don't. Not quite the same as wedding photos, but I get where you are coming from and am sending you a virtual hug. Try to use this as motivation. The advice others are giving…
  • Whenever I see a necro thread like this, I often wonder what the OP chose to do. I hope he comes back to tell us what happened in the end!
  • I've been able to differentiate between appetite/cravings and hunger by doing intermittent fasting. I can physically feel the hunger in my stomach. I also find that hunger comes in waves and is actually easier to ignore than cravings/appetite.
  • Yes, I get anxious about eating out too, so I understand where you are coming from. I do try to put it into perspective - one meal isn't going to kill the diet etc - and I have managed fine with making good choices and sometimes bad choices but not guilting myself over it. But yeah, the general anxiety is still there.…
  • how many calories are you eating a day? how much do you want to lose? if MFP says 1410 cals, is that to lose one pound a week or two? are you eating back your exercise calories? Perhaps ignore these exercise calories for now. Losing weight is mostly about the diet, and the exercise is mostly about fitness. City russ is…
  • I've always known I was obese/overweight over the years. But I will often look in the mirror and go, yeah that's fine, you look fine in that outfit. It takes looking at photographs to really bring home to me just how fat I am. The other week I decided to take some 'before' photos for comparison in the future. It really…

  • How long has it been since you started?
  • Go back to the doctor and ask them what you can eat for 600 calories a day and for how long they intend for you to be on such a low intake. It sounds like there must be more to this advice as it flies in the face of common sense to eat so low on a daily basis. I eat 500 cals twice a week as part of the 5:2 fast diet, but…
  • Hey Flossy, I already do tend to log on a regular daily basis but if you want someone to keep you company on a logging challenge, I'm happy to do so ^^ Mama, good luck with your restart today! (and hope the chocolate/wine was awesome yesterday!)
  • How do you find fasting, when working a full day?
  • To be honest, after trying to use a digital scale that changed its mind about my weight every five seconds (and yes, I changed the battery), I went back to using an old pair of scales that use a dial! They may be slightly out, but I feel they are at least consistently slightly out :D
  • Fantastic! Had a great time at the shops trying on clothes! I use the NHS BMI calculator too and am trying to get from the red into the yellow >.< I've also been overweight or obese since my teens so hearing your success gives me hope and motivation. Enjoy your day!
  • Ignore this if I'm talking out of turn, but if you've done two fast days where you ate nothing at all ... you can seriously just enjoy the rest of the week as if you were eating normally - even if there is a potluck to attend. I'm a bit worried, really, when you say that you feel you won't be able to enjoy it unless you…
  • If your overall deficit for the week is 1750 cals, and you are confident that you have been precise in your calorie counting over the week, and with measuring your calorific burn, then yes you should lose the half pound of fat. Be aware of the rest of what I wrote about it may not being immediately apparent on the scales…
  • Reevaluate your setting after a month. If you've been eating to the goal set for you and have lost the weight you expected, then it's right. If not, then adjust! In the end, the numbers we are given are estimates, a starting point. Give it a go, and see how it pans out for you :)
  • That's the theory, yup. You may find though that the scales don't cooperate with your maths as while the fat loss might occur, there are other factors affecting your overall weight. For example if you were to eat a massive amount of calories one day which included food that had a high sodium count ... you may find your…
  • I see that you have lost some weight in the past going by your profile (25 pounds). How long have you been in a stall?
  • I agree that there is the temptation to blow the whole day off after having gone over by lunchtime. But yeah ... don't. Just have what you would usually have for dinner, or may be a little lighter than usual. Then start afresh tomorrow. Don't make it worse by having a "blah might as well write off the whole day" dinner ^^

  • Right there with you. I was salivating as I planned tomorrow's meals >.<
  • It's not evil. But it did make me giggle :)
  • The first few months are tough as the dieting is really on your mind and it does feel like it takes ages to shift the weight. But I'm told it gets easier. *looks hopeful*
  • 11.30pm on my second FD this week and it's turning into a toughie. I'm in that mood where you're drumming your fingers on the arm of the chair, but too unfocused to do anything useful or sustained. Too wide awake to go to sleep as I'll just lie in bed staring at the ceiling. Bleh.
  • A scale is better than measuring cups. The calories for a servings on a package can be wrong by up to 10% either way. It depends on how strict you wanna be, but if the item is particularly calorie dense, I would weigh it too. :)
