Actually, multiple studies have demonstrated that a partial recovery in hormone changes have occurred in various study populations within time periods less than 12 months after the initial weight loss. One can indeed 'white knuckle' through the changes over time. I think what you meant to say is that 'white knuckling is…

I shuddered when I thought about a pumpkin spice protein bar. To each their own :D

This post is all woo and is not coming from published studies, but... I believe the physical appearance of a person probably has more to do with their non-skeletal lean body mass than it does with their bones. Most people judge the approximate 'fatness' of a person based on their facial tissues and visible muscular…

I do find that one of my coping mechanisms is to eat higher quality food. If I'm eating less of it, it all seems to work out anyway.

I think it's good that the reaction buttons only contain positive connotations. I think negative reactions should be explained in a well thought out post.

The tea sounds expensive! When I do hit McDonald's, I usually get a cheeseburger happy meal ($3) with milk and apple slices. My local Subways offer a daily 6" sandwich for $3.50. Yes, this adds up to something around $20 a week, but it really has helped me feel better about dieting. As for the bakery goods, the Lidl near…

If you have hooked your MFP to another app, for example, Garmin Connect via your smartwatch or something, it will update your activities on MFP, and add your calories burned to your intake goals.

I've been watching the Great British Baking show and it has me hooked. Every season I pick a wife and am always disappointed when they don't ultimately win :(

My goal weight is 5 lbs so I can soar like an eagle.

You may want to try changing what you eat, rather than the calorie count. Oh, and you should bring that up with your doctor at your next visit.

The DASH diet caused me to initially lose weight quickly, likely water weight as my intake of sodium was reduced to nearly 1/4th of my old intake. Over the course of a month or so, it drastically changed my tastes and I found most outside food to be over salted and difficult to eat in large quantities.

Anxiety is like the business partner of many behavioral difficulties. Each one can trigger the other and both make the other one that much more miserable. Control is not always something you can exert in a moment, like what your weight is from day to day, but remember that you can have overall control over a period of time…

Of course you can lift weights. Start small, get a comfortable baseline first, see if you can keep it up for a week or so, then you can start adding reps and weight to see what you can handle. There's not much harm in under-doing it, but over-doing it can really set you back.

No, these recommendations are backed by rigorous scientific study. Generally speaking, they notice that people consuming less than this for a wide range of reasons tend to pick up health problems.

If you weigh yourself, then drink a pint of water and weigh yourself again, you will gain 1 pound. If you use a different scale and weigh yourself again, you might get a number that is +/- 12 pounds. Two scales that are 5 lbs off in different directions will give you a weight that is 10 lbs different. Bathroom scales…

For me, I don't know if it's a quieting of hormones or some other process, but I seem to reset to "normal" pretty quickly after I get busy with other things in life.

My experience is that the majority of dieters are not accounting for their calories properly, some of the common mistakes: * Not knowing that menu/signboard calories in restaurants only include the entree and not the sides. * Forgetting to account for cooking oils used. * Mis-measuring food. * Using the 'raw' items on MFP…

Can you tell us a little about what your symptoms are - how it makes you feel and etc? Depending on what you are going through, we may be able to give some advice. First and foremost: do you have a love of sour or spicy foods? I would reduce or eliminate vinegar and vinegar based hot sauces from my diet, as they have been…

Feeling hungrier than before after losing weight is a fairly well studied effect. The answer is hormones. For a period of time after you lose significant fat reserves, your hormone production will alter itself to make you try to replenish that fat. If you hold it down, stay accountable to your intake, and be responsible…

Build. One thing that self-esteem, relationships, and everything else has in your life is that they can all be built. You can take action to build each and every component of your life. You can build your self-esteem by taking actions to construct a solid foundation in your life. You can build your relationships by giving…

Start stocking up on non-perishables when they go on deep discount even if you don't have immediate plans to use them. A can of tuna you bought two months ago goes really well with some diced onions and pickle relish to liven up any salad.

If you drink a pint of water, you become a pound heavier. There is a daily variation in your weight. For me my weight can swing as high or as low as +/- 5 lbs depending on what I've eaten, done, or how long I've slept. (you will not have as much variation as I do)

Start by walking? Start and hold healthier eating behaviors until they become habits? Stop eating table bread when you go out?

Start with ten and see where you go from there? I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My advice is to listen to your doctor, but also to engage with your doctor. It can help to think of some questions and take notes before you go to your appointment so you remember to have the discussions you would like to have.

Reintroduce carbs gently back into your diet. Avoid going from no carbs to wolfing down a plate of pasta. Stay to your current diet and maybe substitute 50 calories of chicken with 50 calories of bread for a day or two, then another 50 calories. Gradually approach your new targets.

Taper. No sudden drastic dietary changes. Give it a couple of weeks.

Drink less?

Unless you paid extra money for a doctor's office quality scale, your scale is only so accurate. Some cheap scales have a variance of + or - 3 lbs. Generally scales are usually off in the same direction by the same proportional amount, but that's not always true. A decent quality home digital scale usually is accurate…

I've been doing attempting 16:8 intermittent fasting for a couple months now, complying about 3/4ths of the time. I have been losing weight, however, I am also calorie counting, so there's that. I feel like it's helping. At least, it's helping me restrict my calorie intake.
