  • When someone who has known me my whole life gave me a huge hug and congratulated me on my pregnancy. She has known me forever, and she's normally very tactful and would not have made the assumption if it did not look so very much like I had to be pregnant!
  • Crossing my fingers for both of you and your dogs!
  • 7/20 - 163 7/27 - 164.5 (Eeek! I'm going the wrong way! Better luck next week, I guess!)
  • We did our walk. Nothing exciting, but we did it. :)
  • Averaging 5K+ steps per day over the course of a month.
  • I do wish more of us could commute in a ways that give us exercise! When I used to commute by train, I often wished there were a "dance car" on the train. It seemed dreadful to sit still for an hour a day when I was struggling to find time to exercise after the commute and work. Daisy and I got our daily walk in today. A…
  • I am just a beginning gardener, and I'm moving to a place soon where the only gardening I'll be able to do, at least for a year, is in some elevated beds. I'd really like to grow some veggies. Anyone have some easy/foolproof veggies or fruits that will grow okay in elevated beds? (I'm in US gardening zone 6a.) Editing to…
  • Okay, @lemurcat2, please tell me what you do with your celeriac? I used to get a farm share from a place that always included it and I gave it away because it was so hard to peel/chop, and I never could really quite figure out what to do with it besides putting it into a slaw.
  • Thanks, @MaltedTea ! We have nettles growing all over our neighborhood and one of my more nature-loving neighbors has encouraged me to try them, but I have found the thought kind of daunting. Maybe I'll buck up and try it.
  • I didn't realize folks weren't vaccinating their pets. It makes sense, I guess, if you have concerns about vaccines in general. While I do share some of the concerns that vaccine skeptics have, we do vaccinate ourselves and our pet. Daisy is fully vaccinated for what is recommended here -- I don't have her files handy, but…
  • I had this realization yesterday that I will be screwed when my Daisy dies and that I should probably try to proactively come up with a plan for what to do when that happens. I mean, it will be bad enough that I'm bereft, but she's also the one who gets me up every morning for a walk. Without her to get me up, will I even…
  • @MaltedTea and @mgfit2020, please would you share what you do with your nettles and celeriac, respectively?
  • If oat milk is okay for you, you might have better luck with that. Soy milk's consistency just doesn't seem to lend itself well to blending with things.
  • Because our dog is overweight, our vet wants her on Royal Canin satiety kibble, but because I don't think anyone is meant to just eat kibble all the time, I swap out 1/3 of that and give her the caloric equivalent in boiled chicken, or a Nature's Recipe Chicken and Tuna tray.
  • Steve25K, sounds like you are killing it out there! Did you stop the bike commute because of covid-19? Is that something that will start. up again? You've got me thinking about biking. My bike needs a tune-up, and I'm not a strong rider, but when I've got a bike path and some free time, I do enjoy it. Hmm.
  • I am hoping to get my family's meals into a bit of a rotation. The goal is to streamline our shopping, food-prep, and meal decision process so that we are eating healthier meals more frequently, with less angst, instead of defaulting to what's easy, or what's most appealing when we're hungry. Basically, we do great with…
  • Having your dog in pain is awful. Especially because of our limited ability to understand and communicate with our dogs. :( I hope the pain meds help and they're able to come up with a good maintenance plan. Meanwhile, are you gonna try to walk without him? Or just work out in the house more so he's not alone?
  • That sounds great! As a visual person, I'd really like to find things I can hang around my space to motivate me and be something that draws me forward to what I want to be, what I want to look like. This has helped me in the past. Unfortunately, for whatever reasons, I just haven't been seeing anything I find inspiring…
  • That's amazing! You're amazing.
  • Count me in! I'm 5'1" and started at 177 this winter. I'm at 163 now. GW=120
  • I thought I'd check-in on Mondays, too, since that seems to be the group norm. :) I'm not expecting to see big differences week to week, but hopefully sharing will keep me trying! SW: 177 MFP SW: 166 CW: 163
  • Daisy and I did our 75 minutes of walking this morning.
  • We are about to start working with our beagle on settling (sitting or lying down) during car rides, because we really want to be able to take her to the beach, or take her to hiking trails. As it is, she tries to stand the whole time, and can't keep her footing or balance. Usually I just crate her, for her own safety. But…
  • I also have a Daisy! We adopted her one year ago, and she's middle-aged, and overweight, and slow, kinda like me.
  • New to the boards, and following this discussion. I am completely an emotional eater. My mom was, too. And I love food! When I was younger, I was super-active so I didn't realize how out-of-control my eating was. But more recently, between several major life changes, and working desk jobs, it has all caught up with me.
  • Starting two days ago, I added yoga back into my weekly workouts. My goal is 2-3 yoga sessions per week on top of my walking. I did another one today, so that felt good. Anyone else here do Yoga with Adriene?
  • Hey, y'all. I'm 43, looking to lose 40-50 lbs. This is my second time around, and this time I'm trying to hook into the online community, so that I'm in good company instead of trying to go it on my own. Please feel free to add me. Thanks to a history of ankle injuries, I've been rehabbing an ankle and I'm mostly walking…
  • I could totally use some accountability-buddies! My most regular workout is walking. Anyone doing any good walking programs? My first time around this mulberry bush, I did "The Walk", and virtually did part of the PCT. Started Pokemon Go two years ago for the kid in my life, and am one of those weirdos still collecting the…
  • Yes! I used to say, "If you see me running, it's only because I either really need to catch a bus, or I'm being chased by something scary!" I'm trying to adjust my attitude about this. In the meanwhile, my current daily activity is my walk with my dog. Usually what we do might more accurately be described as "moseying".…
