  • Antiopelle, is the bike riding draw more the joy of being outside and seeing things and experiencing the bike ride? If not -- and honestly, I think you're probably a healthier person if it is -- have you tried just putting your bike on a trainer in winter? I just hit some kind of wall recently, and decided I had to make…
  • Welcome, Beelady516!
  • They do look happy! Furry friends make everything nicer. I'm sorry you lost one in November. :(
  • @MargaretYakoda I would start with this foot warmup with Ellie Kusner. She's a dancer, dance teacher, dance scientist, pilates instructor, and just generally good person who cares about people. If that's to your liking, I can recommend more in that vein (she certainly has other videos if you like her), or if it's not, lmk…
  • @MargaretYakoda -- While I'm sure a good physical therapist would be a lot better than I am at prescribing movement that would help you, I'm happy to do some digging (and also consult my own PT, who is amazing) and send some links. If you haven't heard from me in a few days, please nudge me!
  • Welcome Karine! Thank you so much for introducing yourself! My husband is convinced I should take a page from your book at try scuba diving, since I love the ocean so much. I think you are very brave and must have seen a lot of really cool creatures!
  • Anyone done anything they are proud of lately? Although in many ways my family "vacation" ended up being quite stressful (with one of us landing in the hospital), one bright point for me just before everything fell apart was that I did something I've never done before: I went and took a walk/hike in a National Park, alone.…
  • @Skyler103 Yeah, when my neighborhood started outfitting its shared workout space, it was a huge debate whether to have mirrors in there or not -- because some folks were split on whether that was encouraging or discouraging -- and also whether it was okay for people to reserve the room to work out alone. We settled on…
  • My current yoga goals are just to increase the amount of yoga I'm doing. I started keeping track in June after my first session back on the mat in a very long time. In June I did 8 yoga sessions. In July I upped that to 15. So my goal for August is more than 15!
  • @MargaretYakoda -- Caveat: I'm a former dancer and dance teacher, so I think nearly everything can be solved with the right movement prescription. ;) That said, barring some physical problem that can only be fixed surgically or medically, I feel like there should be some somatic exercises out there -- probably on YouTube…
  • Skyler103, that's encouraging about your husband's blood pressure coming down! I've been struggling to motivate to exercise. I've been making good food choices, though. I also went and got the lab work I've been avoiding getting for a few weeks. And on the up-side, some of my numbers are better (like my triglycerides and…
  • Yeah. This past week, I've been failing big-time at exercise (outside of the dog walks, and two home yoga sessions). OTOH, I've made some good food choices and done some batch cooking, so there's that.
  • You all are doing great! I've been almost 100% failing lately, but I'm trying to check back in. Today I will do my hour of PT exercises.
  • Welcome jo_nz!
  • So, the YMCA offers Livestrong classes (and a family membership for a year for FREE). to anyone with cancer. I'm on the list, but unfortunately, I can't be cleared til after my next surgery, and then I'll need to be working -- most likely when their classes are. But I've got to say: The YMCA near me is really, really nice.…
  • Aaaaah! @goal06082021 and @TwistedSassette, I feel you. I am 5'1" and my husband is 6'6". Here I am busting my *kitten* to try to lose weight/not have cancer come back, and there he is...just...doing what he has always done. And I am constantly teetering on the edge of gaining, and he never seems to gain anything. My…
  • Where I trip up most often is not prepping enough food ahead of time for dinners. If I don't have something I've made ahead, many days I'm just too exhausted by dinnertime to make anything at all, much less good choices! I'm very consistent about eating healthy breakfasts, and I'm pretty consistent with lunch, too. Dinners…
  • I got myself back on my yoga mat this week, which is really key for not only my physical, but my mental health as well. And I volunteered to tour some folks around my neighborhood today, and got an extra 4000 steps in as a result.
  • Awww. I'm really loving Colby's pose!
  • I looked in the mirror and realized my face is looking thinner/smaller/better defined. Not that I was the Kool-Aid man before, but I definitely was looking...jowly...and now I'm not.
  • @Zephy/Goal (<--Do you have a preference?), having been walking in my hilly, rural area 725 days out of the last 730 (since getting a dog -- don't worry, someone else walked her while I had surgery), and having just gone to the beach for the first time in ages and walked on sand as it gave way under my feet, I am here to…
  • So, for my immediate goal, I did tally up my activities for the past month, and if I want to improve on last month I need to do better than these numbers: Yoga 0 Solo walks/jogs 0 Swim time 2 Hikes 2 Physical Therapy 18 Dog walks 40 "Other" 0
  • Wow, so much of what you all have shared is relatable. I'd like to second TwistedSassette's plug for Yoga with Adriene for anyone thinking about trying yoga. She has a ton of free classes on-line. Some are as short as 5 minutes, just to explain a pose, some are instructional where she talks you through, and some are flow,…
  • I'm so excited to meet you all! A couple things I forgot to say are that I'm closing in on 45 y.o. and my pronouns are she/her. Many thanks to @TwistedSassette for putting a link to this group in the thread on Motivation and Support! @hessiondesign4 , I am super-excited to have another person who's been through BC…
  • Great job with your body, now you just gotta get out there and start interacting with the world! I'm a huge introvert, and home is my safe space, so believe me, I get not wanting to get out and put yourself out there. Baby steps, just set small goals to start, yeah? Hang in there and good luck!
  • I adore quiche; I just wish I had a good whole-grain or nut-based crust recipe! One of the larger sources of cals in most quiches is the crust, and if I'm going to eat carbs, I'd at least prefer them to be nutrient-dense. Anyone have a good (i.e. tasty) whole-grain or nut-based crust recipe?
  • Holy carp! Nice job!
  • I used to solidly need four notches on my watchband, and now I only need 3 -- and 3 is starting to feel a little bit loose!
  • When my lovely online yoga teacher asked me to hug my knees into my chest...I was ABLE TO, without huge discomfort for the first time in years!
  • Awesome job! I just shared with my husband...who generally isn't interested in losing weight, but sometimes I think he just needs guys who resemble him more to motivate him/make him think it might be worth it...and he was impressed.
