I sometimes train based on a calorie goal. I use a power meter on the bike and when doing endurance work I shoot for 2000 calories burned while biking, I also know coaches who do the same thing. I actually shoot for 11,000 calories burned during my training weeks and other goals such as two hard days, and one long ride,…

I like the Krispy bars...super easy to eat and brought my calories up. Two bits and gone, easy to carry and unwrap. And I did want a little solid food.

In my opinion, which may not be worth much, people really overthink nutrition on long endurance rides. I basically drink 300 cal of sugar per hour and ate one rice crispy bar per hour. I knew it was going to be a 13,000 cal day and in general the body can absorb around 300 calories an hour and a little more if you are not…

I would join your group but I’m not (and can’t) lose weight. I do bike a lot. John

I started cycling in 2003 but never got really ok at it until about 5 years ago when I stop doing triathlons and really focused on riding. I ride 700-800 hours a year and rarely if ever miss a day. Really happy with this ride as it was just me and one other guy all day and the last 3-4 hours it was over 90 degrees. We…

Today’s ride...81 hours for the month
-
Really good month so far, with 5 hundred mile days. Over 1200 miles for the month and will hit my goal of 70 hours today. Have a 200 mile ride set up for Sunday, going to be 93 degrees so we are starting at 4AM. This is the end of my last big push miles wise to get ready for my 24 hour race June 16-17. Starting my taper 3…

Really, a complete stranger telling you what to do, unsolicited. I wish you success. I starting doing 200 a day because of this person. So thanks for the inspiration. John

I rode 5 hours today at 216 watts. My ride today was 103.3 miles, 4900 feet of climbing. Other than hitting the hills really hard it was not to bad. I have owned a power meter since 2008 and currently own 4 different brands (used to have a Stages but they suck IMO) and have compared them to each other many times, plus I…

I love my radar, worth every dime. It’s not perfect but it adds one more layer of protection to a sometimes dangerous sport. I still pretend I am invisible on the road. Always wear bright socks (which matters a lot) and pick the safest road I can. And what was this thread about... Oh yes, cycling does burn a ton of…

A lot like where I live, northern Wisconsin. I can be in the country in 5 minutes and see one car an hours...minus tractors... Oh and get the Garmin Radar system, love it, best 200 dollar gadget I have ever purchased. John

Because cycling is low impact it can be repeated every day for a long time. I eat constantly, I mean constantly but I want to ride every day. It’s my therapy from life. Most weeks in the winter I ride 2 hours a day, one hour in the AM and one hour in the PM. All indoors. I burn 1600-2000 calories that way on my…

When you get in good shape as a cyclist you can easily lose weight. I can burn 700-800 calories an hour with only moderate effort. But the key is good shape, which means lots of miles and time. John

You are very kind, but I’m at 59 kilos...can do 270+ for an hour. It does not get me competitive KOMs. 6 watts/kilo or 360 for 5 minutes might but not 4.5...I just did 5.5 watts/kilo or ~330 for a 2.4 mile climb 8:41 total time)...got me 68th out of 700+. Yes my power meter was calibrated.... But you are very correct. Of…

Two rides yesterday. 51 in the AM on the TT bike. Super fast at 22mph. Then in the afternoon rode to my wife’s work which gave me a nice tailwind. Added some big hills to make it harder. Super fun ride.

Bummer, hope you are ok. I so hate crashing....heal up quickly and keep racing seems like you are making solid gains on the track John

What was your power?

I could repeat today but only one more day. I simply can not keep up with replenishing my glycogen stores. Plus some muscle trauma (the good kind) would inhibit my ability to push as hard. I have done back to back hundreds but it requires (which are usually 3500+ calories) and better pacing on the first day.

118.3 miles....5400 feet of climbing. 20.5 average. Very good day. Very tired now. 39 hours for the month so far.

I second the good pair of shorts, I remember in 2003 I thought, no way I am NOT paying 80-100 dollars for bike shorts...these 30 dollar ones will be just fine, it’s all marketing.... Oh how naive I was....

Haha, if that hit a nerve I have a really hard life. I think tomorrow I’ll ride 125 miles to settle myself though...

First I meant 24 hours. I know a ton of people who have raced, trained, and/or exercised 20 plus. Why does everything need to be weight loss centric...this is the fitness and exercise category. I guess people on forums feel the need to teach or correct or judge...I suppose it’s in us all sometimes. Here is my best:…

Nice ride! Your photo looks a lot like Wisconsin where I live. Rolling hills and very green.

19.3 miles in 46:xx. So a 25.0 average. Many small rollers and a few reall hills...750 feet of climbing. 9th place. I am unsure how people can ride at 27+ but they do... 262 watts at 131 pounds, left my aero position only 2 times for less than 30 seconds total. Now off for a late afternoon recovery ride

Exactly, I have a race Saturday. Going to clean and then ride the bike to make sure it does what it supposed to. New tires always have to be tested, you never know how the tube is set until you ride it for a bit. Good luck on your ride! John
-
I always ride new tires a little before goal events My 2 cents John

Rode a very hilly, point to point (with more uphill than down) personal TT yesterday. 18.2 miles, 24.5 average. Testing myself to see if I should ride an actual TT race this weekend. Felt really good on the TT bike so I’m going to give it a shot. J
