We got a foot of snow....

Why not? As long as it does not effect your quality training days it’s a good thing. The research is clear on only a few things....volume matter...intensity matters. The ratio no one is sure of. Experiment on yourself and see what happens. No one knows what the best way to train is... John

Been doing a lot of racing on Zwift. It’s been some of the best training I have ever done. That saying a lot since I have been riding and racing for 15 years. Makes 40-120 minutes on the trainer fly by...seriously you don’t even look at time, you are just trying to stay with the guys around you, I did a race last night, I…

We are currently in an endless winter, worst spring in 10 years, snow, cold, windy, it was 5 on my commute Friday. Fully indoors John
-
So my goal is 800 hours this year which is around 2:10 per day. Last month I hit 74 hours So far for April I am at 16 hours 9 minutes....but I got one more ride today. So 54 more hours for April 65-70 total Been doing a lot of Zwift racing....they are brutal. I never do structured intervals as there is no clear research on…

I think it’s a cool goal. I bike a ton...like 2-3 hours a day so I’m happy with 150-200 push ups before bed. Keep pounding them out!
-
I work out between 14-18 hours a week on my bike. 3 hours active recovery, the rest is moderate, with two hours hard. Plus I do 150-200 push ups every night: https://www.strava.com/athletes/5058093 I used a pseudonym on my Strava account. People really have no idea what the body can handle. No idea at all. I rode 3 hours…

You plan the entire week a week ahead. If something comes up totally unexpected you get up earlier. John

THIS!
-
Thanks that’s helpful. I have a full CrossFit rig my wife uses so maybe I will do a few pull ups to balance it out. Keep at the 100k...that’s an impressive goal.
-
Thanks. It’s a cool journey.

Sure, right now it’s 42...will go a low as 39. Especially when I am working towards race weight. Body metabolism slows some. John

Could not agree more. So key to understanding and improving fitness

~21 times per week I ride my bike every weekday morning for 30-60 minutes. I then ride in the evening for an hour. I will either ride 2-3 plus hours each weekend day if I can ride outside. I like to ride 100 miles as often as possible. If I am inside on the bike trainer due to winter I will ride 90 minutes twice both…

105 miles today, 3000 feet of climbing (so flat-ish), 2 other people (one drafted for almost the whole ride). Averaged 21.7 until we stopped trying at mile 100...over average speed 21.3. 41 hours for the month

National 24 hour challenge. It’s in Michigan. I did it last year but they closed to course for 4 hours due to severe storms...ended with 382 miles. 400 was the goal and still is. My long term goal is to do 300 watts for 20 minutes at less than 60 kilograms body weight. 5 watts per kilo...it’s way harder than it seems.

Yes, my wife is a good cyclist. One hour for her at moderate which would be hard for a new person is 500 calories. This is measured with a power meter which is the gold standard for accuracy. John

What’s your concerns. I’m an endurance cyclist...just added in 100-200 push ups per day 4 months ago. I don’t want ANY mass gains but I am 47 so I need to maintain some muscle. I ride 2 hours per day...average per year so I ride a lot. I thought push ups work whole upper body some...back less I know Any thoughts would be…

Nah I quit the tri thing...did 27 races. Got pretty ok, but I wanted to excel at one. Plus I had some major family issues come along so choose to do the sport that is the most fun for me. And yeah, I like fast (and really long rides)
-
Now do one with one arm hanging...one arm pull up = 1 out of 100 thousand people. There brutal
-
Yeah I did 800 hours for 2 back to back years. Strongest I ever got. But you don’t get many days off...like none There is a very strong correlation between your watts per kilo at threshold...800 hours for me was 290 FTP or 4.9, which means really fast solo 100s
-
So I have done 35 hours of riding this month. Over 170 hours for the year...going for 800 hours this year. Did my first outdoor road ride last weekend...107 miles. Did another 36 mike ride outside today. Other than those two rides ~ 8 hours the rest was in the land of Zwift....indoor trainer rides. Just starting an 8 week…

Ride my bike 400 miles in 24 hours...

Rode my bike for 1:09 in the morning and 1:15 after work. On the indoor trainer. Burned 1900 calories. Makes dinner very big.

But it clearly lets you know if your training is working. And you can really nail your calorie/weight loss goals. I have had 5 different power meters in my life. Trained with power since 2008. When I want to drop 5 pounds I can, I do it every year at this time. Race weight is 5-6% body fat (yes tested on a DEXA and in…

Sorry if this stated above but does it give you a power number, if so weight does not matter
-
Without knowing your bodies efficiency at creating energy even power meters can be 5-10% wrong. Strava gives 2 numbers...the larger is actually more accurate as most people are just not that efficient on the bike. A average rider’s efficiency on a bike is low....maybe 15-18%. The smaller Strava number assumes I think 23%…

So at the end of the month I managed 69 hours and 17 minutes of biking plus about 2-3 hours of evening abs and push ups. So ~72 hours for the month....2+ hours per day! Got a 6 hour bike ride in last Friday. Made my goal of averaging 17mph...the course climbs 6 mountains for 13,000 feet of climbing. It’s a beast. I did a…

Gotch, yeah that danger of internet advice, you never know enough about a person. With time and perspective things become far more clear. Thanks to sharing. My knowledge sometimes exceeds my ability to be curious first. Enjoy the day... John

Indoor training, for me, takes me to a whole new level, it takes 30-40% more riding for me outside to get same effect, Tempo and above inside only. Zone 2 just does not do it unless you are new. If you bumped up all you rides I would bet you would hit all goals. I have been training with power for 11 years...lots of…
