I have an Alta HR and really like it. I like using the Charge 2 for workouts, mostly because I can manually stop and start it using the button. But I wear the Alta every day. It's smaller and more discreet than the Charge.

I had the same issue - I went out last night and had a few beers. But I ate well all day and had a light dinner so at the end of the day I felt good. Good question! For my purposes, I don't think it's worth it. But for real athletes or very active people it could probably provide a lot of guidance and insight.
