  • Hiya! Yes, I did say that at lunchtime but some days that is about all I can manage unless I really make a concerted effort to eat more. I've been sneaking in more cals the way you guys have suggested and am making it up around 1200 which is OK for now. That's still pretty low for someone my size (6' 2" 250lbs) and I guess…
  • Wow, that calculator is so helpful, thank you!
  • Thanks for the input! I'm still not hungry this morning, but did manage a small dinner last night which took me to around 1000 cals. I wonder if restarting metformin (slow release) only a few days ago might also be having an effect? It dawned on me today that could be some of it. For now, I'm going to enjoy being…
  • It was a lunchtime pondering, really, as I suddenly realises that I was around a lot of food (lunchtime in a shopping mall!) And realised that since starting the diet I hadn't thought about food or felt hunger at all - even with all those lovely food smells around! :)
  • Thanks everyone! I have only been on this for 9 days (almost 10) so you're probably right about the "ketone high" and the hunger will come! If it stays away, I'll try adding the extra cals in with nut butters etc as suggested :-)
  • Thanks for replying so quickly! It is a weird one because I *know* under 1000 cals a day is bad, but I'm feeling so good I'm scared of messing it up by eating more. It's a similar feeling I expect people who do short fasts feel. Had anyone tried making "fat bombs"? A ton started coming up on my Pinterest feed but I don't…
  • Yes! This. ALL OF THIS! When I say I can't see my feet I REALLY mean it! So yeah the lines on the bottom of the pool are a challenge - not to mention seeing (or more accurately, missing) the pool side when getting in/out. I think I'm going to try prescription goggles one more time... and see how it goes. I couldn't give up…
  • Oh you know, I hadn't even thought of wearing my hand braces to lift! Doh! Will give it a go :-) And yes, always looking for fellow buddies! It's hard to explain to truly fit and healthy people sometimes that when you say you can't do something it's true - and not a get-out clause because you don't WANT to do it!!
  • And also yes, as a fellow autoimmune champion, I totally agree that weights give a feeling of power and achievement even on the really rough days.
  • Thanks! Yep I had a chat with some of the gym staff yesterday too and they showed me straps - think it's going to revolutionise my lifting! It has been so frustrating in the past to know I *could* go further if only my grip wouldn't give out. They showed me normal straps and figure 8 straps, I think the latter are best…
  • I can't even see my own feet let alone other people!!! Haha. Thanks for the consensus peeps, it's helpful to know I'm not alone here. Will have to look at prescription goggs I reckon, lenses and normal goggles seem to still irritate my eyes. And I'll definitely experiment with all the de-fog suggestions too! Maybe a little…
  • This literally varies from lab to lab in the UK, I don't know about other countries. In London I was initially "sub clinical", then moved to another borough and was put on a low dose, then moved house again and was "severe" - but the amounts were the same every time. They also don't test for T3/T4 conversion as standard so…
  • Thyroxine! They'll give you thyroxine. Metformin is for type 2 diabetics, insulin resistence, and off-label for PCOS. Those do go hand in hand with thyroid problems so if things are a bit out of whack with lady stuffages too you might want more investigation. A thyroid doesn't fix itself but it can fluctuate (usually…
  • Hi, 6'2 here. Yup, as large as a man's.
  • Thank you! I've had more than one doctor tell me 'not to worry' about reaching the healthy BMI range, because 'these charts don't really factor in for very tall women' - so when even clinicians, who are supportive and encouraging of me losing weight, suggest the focus should not be on a generalised chart, you know there's…
  • Hello! I am lactose free as it makes my eczema terrible. I also avoid soya for other reasons so it can make for interesting times trying to find dairy alternatives! I love alpro coconut milk for smoothies and in porridge, and also unsweetened almond milk to change it all up sometimes. Thankfully it is much easier to be…
  • @synacious you're like a guru. :) As for your doctor, I hope you found someone else who was more helpful/empathetic than that in the end! Yeah I think it came across that I was annoyed at thin people (not sure I said specifically, cba to read back!) but totally 100% agree that there are very muscular people guilty of it…

  • I'm 6'2 and weigh over 250lbs :) I have a hefty calorie allowance even on loss! I'm not fit bashing, nor assuming these people don't have problems - that's my point - it's about false representation. As I've said earlier, it affects me so much because I get frustrated by it all. It shouldn't frustrate me, but it does, and…

  • Thank you! I mean, genuinely, thank you. (For the multi paragraph comment, I'm a writer so type at mega speed which results in word-vomit a lot of the time!). You've all been really insightful and very much right - I need to let things not bother me so much. But y'know, that's as much of a process as losing the weight is I…

  • I hear what you're saying and thank you for your honesty, but feel conflicted by your post. Yes, of course I'm insecure, I'm 250lbs. But saying I don't know someone's story and then telling me to stop my excuses - where were my excuses here? I'm fat. I also have severe rheumatoid arthritis aged only 29 but I still get my…

  • Alas yes. It follows my line of work, which is probably why I get so frustrated by sneaky black hat marketers rather than the ones trying to actually help people!

  • I don't have my own accounts either, but I do social media for work so am forced to spend a LOT of time on it!

  • I think because I'm tired of peddlars selling snake oil everywhere you look. I'm a cynic and it bothers me that advertisers not only get away with this stuff but actually make shed loads of money from it.

  • Yes! This! I shudder at the thought of sugar because I'm one of those who it definitely does zero favours for, but see your point. And yes, I think that's why I'm so frustrated with these posts, because I know so many people will have been like me starting out, thinking it was easily possible (and not seeing the blood…

  • I know what you mean! As I said in the first post, I do actually enjoy some fitspo now and then. I think because my feeds get flooded with advertising posing as real people posts that's what bothers me about it. Like aub6689 said, it's that they make it look easy and it sure as hell ain't! :)

  • I use these accounts for work (I literally have to be on social media) so I see a lot of things I don't want to! This, and this. You're making the point I was trying to make, only far more eloquently! :) I'm not fit-bashing. I want to be fit myself. I think what I was just trying to put out was that selected lifestyle…

  • It's not about fit girls holding food. It's the unrealistic attitude of it. If it comes up in my feed I scroll past it, doesn't mean I don't see it.

  • No way could I skip breakfast! I have to be careful over my blood sugar levels, so skipping isn't an option :) Sounds like protein, protein, protein is the way! I love eggs so am glad you lot agree they're good to snack on/have for breakfast. I might try and do some make-ahead breakfasts like egg 'muffins' (you know, like…
  • I think - and I'm just speculating - that is has something to do with insulin resistance. I have PCOS which leads to a pre-diabetic state; I'm taking Metformin (used in Type 2 diabetes treatment) but that's for the PCOS rather than pre-diabetes. However, I think the principle may be the same - insulin resistance is a…
  • Do you think it matters HOW you're losing the weight, too? I mean, if you're losing by diet only, or also exercising? I noticed the last time I dropped a size I required fewer pounds off than the last time I'd been at that size, because this time I was going to the gym. I guess that also ties in with the fact that muscle…
