If you have freezer space, bring a bag of steam-able veggies, eat half for lunch and half for dinner. I like salad but don't like fixing it or lugging it around. I prefer hot veggies. Also, make 2 half sandwiches, bring 2 pieces of fruit, and 2 other snacks so you have 2 meals. If you like fish, bring a pouch of salmon,…

Plain regular yogurt also tastes super tart. Sweetened yogurt (Greek or not) is FULL of sugar. It's alright for a treat, but I'd rather have other sugary things. So I eat Oikos triple zero, Greek yogurt fortified with fiber and sweetened with stevia. All dairy has sugar already, so I haven't had any room for added sugar…

(I'm now eating 1400 because I've increased activity and am generally more active than when I first started losing weight.)
-
No, it won't harm you as long as it's not an every day habit. I'm a 24 year old woman, and I entered sedentary and got a goal of 1237 calories a day at 5'6" and 185. You should be eating a bit more even if you're sedentary, especially since you're a man. 1400 calories a day should be plenty low for you to lose weight.

Ballet is my first love, and I dance en pointe. But I also do jazz, hip hop, and a little modern here and there. I did tap and acrobatics for many years, but can't find a class time that works for me now. I also did liturgical and clogging for a few years, but also don't have the opportunity to do that right now.

I've been dancing my whole life (since I was 2). I was mostly lean mass when in my best shape using only dance, walking, and very small weights/body weight exercises. I find body weight way more interesting than lifting weights (like planking, power yoga, partnered ab exercises, barre work of various sorts, etc.). Some of…

Wow, these are all great responses. To everybody above, if you want to eat 1000-1200 it can be safe to do so. But that's only the case if you're not exerting yourself much. I had a lot of days in that range early on in my weight loss. And it was fine. MFP only shouts if you eat less than 1,000. So you can keep 1200 or 1300…

This is a great plan! I guess it's sort of what I'm doing, too. I want to add more consistent exercise as I go. But being a student, nothing is truly the same day to day lol. And also, I graduate in May. So I'll be spending the summer getting a new routine, applying for jobs, etc.

Thanks for all the great perspectives! At my size, I'm pretty sure maintenance will end up being around 1650-1750 once I reach goal. 1850-1900 is maintenance for where I'm at now. I don't count exercise in maintenance at the moment, because I don't exercise every day or even 5x a week. I'm at 3-4x per week. I think I could…

I've never gone down to .5 lb a week yet, but it is hard for me to adhere to these type of calorie levels now. I'm more active than when I started on MFP. I was at 1,237 + exercise when I was at 1.5 lb per week. After weight loss and changing to 1 lb, it put me at 1370-1380. It's way easier than 1200. But I often end up in…

Also, feel free to add me. My diary is open. I'm not veg, but I eat a lot of veg foods because I can't afford much meat that is healthy and reasonabl ethical. I eat a lot of fish (salmon and tilapia, some tuna), peas, and beans/lentils through mixed frozen veggie combos. I eat tons of peas.

Special K chips aren't terribly bad for you, and they're the lowest fat salt and vinegar snack I've found. I eat salt and vinegar peanuts or almonds more often, but those are really fatty. Popcorn Indiana popcorn may work for you. I don't remember the fat content, but the large "fit corn" bag is a salty, crunchy popcorn…

Peas! Cottage cheese! Eggs! (I second the Greek yogurt and beans and lentils.)
-
Another suggestion if you like either celery or carrots, use those to dip into whatever salsa you like. It's very low calorie and crunchy. They make carrot chips that are near the baby carrots.
-
Special K chips or baked chips are great if you want chips. Pita chips are high carbs, but fairly low in fat. As far as zero fat, I don't know of a lot of salty snacks that have no fat at all. Try some simple crackers with fat free yogurt dip or fat free cottage cheese mixed with salsa.

Cottage cheese (low fat), fat free yogurt, milk, sliced or cubed low fat cheese, beans, peas, eggs, and fish have been my main sources of protein. I've eaten so many more peas and beans since starting to lose weight. They have fiber and protein, and are very versatile. If you like cottage cheese, enjoy that with fruit. If…

You're already physically fit. You likely have a good deal of muscle mass from taekwondo. If you want to try to lose a few, add more general cardio like jogging or elliptical to your usual routine. Don't eat back much of the exercise calories. If you add 20-40 minutes of cardio after each of your usual workouts, you'll…

At your size, you may have to eat 1200-1300 consistently to lose weight. But I agree, your weight can fluctuate a couple pounds for various reasons.
-
Congratulations to everybody! I am also just overweight, down 25 pounds! Headed for a normal weight range in 15 1/2 more pounds!
-
Make sure you have selected "Lose one pound per week" or "Lose .5 pounds per week," because it may have automatically set to maintain because you reached your goal.

I'm not a coffee lover, but I drink it because now that I'm dieting there's not a whole lot of stuff I can drink for variety. I don't plan on cutting out the 2-3 tbsp of half and half or milk when I have coffee. But I don't sit around drinking it all day, either.
-
Sending you a request. Wow, congratulations on all your success! I have 15 pounds to my first goal, and then about 6-8 pounds after that (which will be super hard to lose, I'm sure!).
-
I have lost nearly 26 pounds, and I haven't made any foods off limits. I personally avoid any food with added trans fat (everything with trans fat besides beef), and I try to avoid extremely high sugar intake. But seriously, I've had ice cream, pizza, chips, soda, cookies... Not in huge amounts, but I have let myself eat…

These are great!

You can enjoy bread, just monitor other carbs. Find the rye with the most fiber. I found one with 3 g per slice. Also, you can just buy a wide loaf and cut one slice in half to make a sandwich. Open faced sandwiches are great, but less portable.
-
Just put in a goal to lose .5 pound a week, and stay in the calorie limit. Make healthier choices as you go, but you can eat chips if you want. Just count the calories. Don't deprive yourself, especially not at first.

^^^ thank you! @CardiganandFlannel

These photos are of me at SW 185, then around 170, 164-5, and the bottom one at CW 159 1/2. Weight loss has been all over for me. But I tend to carry "all over." I haven't lost a ton of inches in any one area. And people notice pretty quickly for a shorter person.
-
I'm 5'5", so I don't know if that qualifies as short. I only started with 40 pounds to lose. But it was a major wake up call.

Hey, @MalkinMagic71 if you're interested in having a friend that's gonna be using MFP a loooonnnngggg time and is super committed, please feel free to send me a request. I have lost 25.6 lb so far and have at least around 20 left. I plan to keep logging everything for a very long time in maintenance. Congratulations on…
