My step-daughter just became a nurse, and her nutritional knowledge was amazingly tiny when she took her licensing exam. It seemed to resemble a collection of mantras from Cliff Notes for a 1970s edition of Nutrition for Dummies. For example, "Carbohydrates are essential for life and the workings of all human cells and…

Yep, just not eating is a pretty effective way to not eat anything mysterious or toxic. You can always use the line that you've got fasting labs the next day, unless it's Saturday, in which case you can say you have a weigh-in for a boxing match or weightlifting competition coming up. B) The rake-and-eat solution for pizza…

Good point! I don't tend to experience such wide swings... unless my BG has reacted to something purporting to be low carb. :s
-
@rheddmobile, thanks for the report. I'm even less tempted now to try the lyin' *kittens*.

You can order soon-expiring test strips on eBay & Amazon. (They're Free w some insurance!)

(Plus, it's cheap. Strips, too!)

18 Glucose Meters Reviewed https://www.diabetestechnology.org/surveillance.shtml The majority received an unsatisfactory rating. Of the 2 Walmart Relion models, 1 passed (Relion Confirm) and failed (Relion Prime). The top score went to Bayer's Contour Next (but the previous model, Contour, failed).

FYI, many people (including moi) look at Erythritol <3 as perhaps the most harmless of the sugar alcohols. It doesn't tend to raise blood sugar and does not share the spectacular laxative tendencies :s of some of its cousins.
-
You can probably lay buy a cable that will do the trick.
-
@MyriiStorm - VerioIQ - Average/good rating of 73, strips relatively expensive. (Recall issued in 2013 for a defect in responding to very high glucose levels.) "Calculates glucose averages. Automatic coding. Requires less than 1µL of blood for a reading. Readings in the memory can be downloaded to a PC and/or a smart…

Wow! What all did the cortisol test involve?
-
You Betcha! I'll have a look. Dairy affects folks in different ways... as do many other things (meds, circadian rhythms, sleep, stress / dirty thoughts >:) /anything else that affects cortisol HGH, etc...)
-
That's a new one - thanks for the ref!

More living proof!
-
In 8 months, no less. So much for the ADA and its decades of hand-wringibg about diabetes being chronic and progressive. You folks are living proof it needn't be so. B)

FYI, Consumerlab.com recently tested berberine supplements and found that the following brands had 90% or less of the stated amount: Pura Organics, Lean Nutraceuticals, Double Wood, VitaCost, Pure Science, Only Natural, LongLifeNutri, Swanson, Biotics Research Corp. @cstehansen @GaleHawkins

Constipated? :o I had wrongly assumed that the GI deviations only went in one direction....
-
It sounds like an insulin dosing issue if you're running such high levels when you eat too many carbs. Even if you only OD on carbs oncw a year, knowing how to go about adjusting your insulin would still be great knowledge to have.

@rheddmobile - Whew! That's a puzzler. Any chance your Metformin timing could be playing a role? Relatively new, well-rated meter?
-
Sorry to sound like a broken record, but... In the event your bowels do impressions of Mt. Vesuvius on Metformin :s, there are a couple tricks that might cool off the volcano before it erupts. Per Dr. Bernstein: 1. Switch to XR 2. Switch to name brand Glucophage Others: 3. Take with imodium and/or psyllium (Metamucil) 4.…

Yes, it certainly is! One might almost think people are not all the same,..

1.3 lbs doesn't seem like a reason to go on the wagon. I'm in maintenance mode, yet my weight fluctuates within a 5-lb range over the course of a week, even a couple days sometimes. PS. Your scale is not on your side!…

@tayusuki - I'm no expert, but the top two things in my mind are reducing inflammation & getting your lipids in better shape (this would show up on a NMR Advanced Lipoprotein test). The % of fluffy, larger LDLs tends to increase, as does HDL, and triglycerides tend to come down. But it's not that simple, and there are…

Congrats! Sounds like you're still losing - how far do you have to go till you've reached your goal weight?
-
Any other marriages made in epicurean heaven?
-
How's progress?
-
I don't feel competent to utter sweeping pronouncements, though I am all in with a ketogenic diet to reduce inflammation, improve my lipoprotein particle profile, and keep my mild plaque at bay, (The plaque was revealed through a Coronary Artery Calcium CT scan)
-
Good question! Are you asking about plaque that's known to be present or preventing it from accumulating in the first place?
-
Yeah, I have to agree with you. The report cautions: "Most estimates of diabetes in this report do not differentiate between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. However, because type 2 diabetes accounts for 90% to 95% of all diabetes cases, the data presented are likely to be more characteristic of type 2 diabetes. More detailed…

"Creepy" as in, "you can have all the ice cream you want. It doesn't count as food" or "you don't need to bathe if you follow this diet" ? ;)
