@cstehansen, great progress! Hard work sometimes pays off.

I would be hard pressed to name a better use for test strips than finding out how many (or how few) carbs you can handle without spiking your BG....
-
Have you had c-peptide and antibody tests to see if you might be a late-blooming Type 1 (Type 1.5, LADA)?
-
@sconleigh Have you ever tested before and after (1 and 2 hours) after a helping of carbs (crackers, chips, etc.) to see how they affect you?
-
Hmm. What is it that zaps your willpower in the afternoon...? Any chance that if you loaded up on a big, low-carb meal late morning (eggs, meat, cheese..), you wouldn't get bit by the afternoon carb-crave bug?
-
Your testing habit should serve you well through your journey! I met with a small herd of dietitians and diabetes "educators" before I found one who wasn't tethered to the ADA's crazy, carb-happy guidelines. Worth the wait, though! https://youtu.be/da1vvigy5tQ

Good luck - you may be into non-diabetic territory come March!

Wow! That's awful. I guess we have the inexplicable but ubiquitous mystery of diabetes to thank. I took my 81-yo MIL'sBG after breakfast yesterday. She's thin as a rail, a relatively light eater, very energetic, and absolutely lucid. She said she gets her BG checked every year "whether I need it or not", and it's always…

Are you adjusting your insulin to match evening carb intake? Seems like your bedtime BG is all over the place but your fasing BG is consistently pretty darn good!

If it's not too late.. Dr. Bernstein (has treated thousands of diabetics) emphatically recommends brand name Glucophage XR over generics. There are over 15 generics approved by the FDA, and they are of variable quality. My own raging GI fireworks were pretty much extinguished by the switch! If your insurance is…

Just a thought.... Glimepiride, as I understand it, stimulates your pancreas to produce more insulin in order to move glucose out of your bloodstream and into storage (liver, muscles, body fat). It carries with it a risk of hypoglycemic episodes if the dose is not carefully matched to your diet. Now that your A1c has…

Bingo. Testing is never a bad idea!

@wornoutcowboy - I'm a T2 diabetic, and I can tolerate modest amounts of full-fat, unsweetened, plain yogurt (preferably with live probiotic cultures). Here are a couple interesting links: 1. https://www.ketovangelist.com/the-keto-guide-to-dairy - 2. Cornucopia.org's scorecard for organic yogurts sold in the US:…

Phinney reported recently on research showing a greater health risk in dropping one's daily sodium consumption from 5g to 2g than from increasing it from 5g to 8g. (!) Here's his brief explanation of why it's important to increase sodium intake while eating LC : https://youtu.be/WNV0GJcrqp4

Haha! :joy: Wasn't there a South Park episode where Cartman contemplated a similar dish?

How's it going?

Have one made for the Kentucky Derby, then wear it to Walmart, etc. and watch the Derby on TV with a pitcher of LC mint juleps?

Diarrhea is no walk in the park (or anywhere else polite company might congregate), but it does have one tiny silver lining - no one questions it as an excuse (for example missing school or work, not getting homework done, failing to scoop litter boxes or do dishes.....).

You guys could be a youth movement. Old? Pshaw!

I am pretty sure I expelled my appendix, spleen, and pineal gland the first time I ingested sorbitol... :s

No diarrhea, at least!

I think if you were to go back and re-read all your own posts, you would feel honor-bound not to cheat, make excuses... or leave the house without a salt lick around your neck! :D

I'm going into year 3, up a few lbs from my low. My DW attributes this to decreasing brain energy requirements... :/
