@rheddmobile, fantastic!

Malitol, like Sorbitol and other sugar alcohols, may also work a >cough< laxative effect. :s

Great post from a diabetes educator: https://lowcarbrn.wordpress.com/2017/09/24/diabetes-a-disease-of-glucose-intolerance/

That's my vote, too. Until I tried fasting the first time I was away from home after starting LC, I had no idea how totally doable and liberating it would be. Thereafter, I started putting travel kits together with small collections of high-calorie, LC foods, like macadamia nuts, olive oil, hard-boiled eggs, and, er....…

Bernstein & Hallberg are great! They tell it like it is - if you have a disease that involves an inability to properly metabolize carbohydrates, your best bet is to find the best way to eat that doesn't require you to eat them. Seems pretty obvious now, but it sure didn't when I first heard it..... Glad their message made…

You're obviously eminently capable of deciding when to accept and when to quietly ignore your doctor's advice.

Whoa. Have you been in all those zones?

If you tolerated Metformin well, why did he reduce the dose? I'm not one to take product info as gospel, but I seem to recall that effective doses of metformin are 1500mg and higher....

A truth that's both obvious yet easily ignored. I like the way Stephen Phinney put it (or close by) - "All you have to do to see that people aren't the same is go to any public place and look around." "Unless you're my identical twin, I'm not going to presume that what works for me will work for you." "Doctrine has no…

2 reasons 1. We're not, hopefully, always going to be in weight-loss mode. 2, The scale is not king and belongs in a dumpster. As Butter Bob says, it:s a lyin', cheatin', SOB, not your friend. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1l0415166/scale-why-should-i-dump-thee-let-me-count-the-ways

Any reason your carbs are set so high? Is that perhaps a total rather than net carb count, with high fiber grams reducing the net carbs? We're all different, of course, and what's good for the goose may cook the gander, but a net carb count of 113g would wreak havoc on my BG unless I were exercising couple 1-2 hours a…

@baconslave, a gem. ;)

Counting calories seems to be like religion, politics, carbs, and fiber. After a while, most people seem to be pulled into one camp or the other, while a few remain uncommitted. (And don't bring it up around the in-laws! :s) To me, it seems like another piece of information that might be useful. Calories are notoriously…

Great tip.

Perusing the vast collection of posts and threads in the sticky LCD Launchpad should suffice to dispel any notion that this LCD group has not been active over the past 2 years. Perhaps having such a great reference mini-library explains why many members no longer post regularly in threads involving common scenarios and…

IMHO, best intro to LC/ketogenic diet - Phinney & Volek, New Atkins for a New You . Best diabetes guide - Richard K. Bernstein, Diabetes Solution. (Also, the YouTube videos by these gentlemen are generally very informative!)

Keto only drops certain metrics... :o

The worst of the SF ice cream may make one's own middle do worse than just sag a bit. (Like a complete evacuation, courtesy of sorbitol, the finkiest sugar alcohol.)

For me it is.. er, was. Now I toss a few in a pan and add LC vegetables, seeds, nuts, spices, and maybe some sort of protein, usually pre-cooked salmon (toward the end). (If I'm feeling tired, I'll scoop a cup or two of broth out before I start the improvements.)
