Protein shakes aren't a magic bullet by any means. They only make you lose or gain weight in the same way that literally any other food does. Sadly, the most boring way to lose weight - eat less, move more - is still the only way to do it. And it sounds like you're on track with the moving more part, so well done for that!…

Yep, Premium lets you set macros by gramme. (Also different macros for different days, if you want to go the whole hog and tailor to training days/rest days/whatever)

Reformer classes use a machine... google image search "pilates reformer" to see what they look like! I did reformer pilates for 6 years and LOVED it. (I moved away from my studio and there isn't one where I live now :'( ) Many of the moves are similar to those in a mat class (on a mat on the floor!), but because you have…

Three from yesterday... - I found new work trousers that fit better, and therefore look better. AND aren't dry clean only. Win. - I wore a strappy sports bra that used to give me terrible back fat, and it didn't any more. - I felt confident enough to do my a whole workout in capris and my sports bra. I'm on recomp and a…

Well done on the start! Keep at it, and get those habits ingrained for the long haul - the things you're doing right now can set you up for a much healthier future. Please do keep us posted on your progress. If you don't want to have to come on the boards and post all the time, fire out a few friend invites to people whose…

Well done! And I bet you remember that choice every time you wear that bra, and smile :)

Don't sweat it. Get the workout in, and also don't worry if you can't quite nail some of the lifts on your second day in a row the way you know you can after a rest day. I generally lift M, W, F but often shuffle things around because of work commitments. Last week I bailed on Friday, and work this week meant that my first…

Here's an important set of questions that I *really* struggled with for years... - Are you healthy? - Can you do the things you want to do? (Life generally, and lifting the weights you want) - Do you like the way your body looks with no clothes on? - Do you like the way your body looks with clothes on? - If the answers to…

This. Also, remember that one of the most important things is how your calories average out over a week. Although you've been recommended various figures, there's no point jumping right in at the low end of say 2,000 if you could only stick with it for 5 days, then spend the next 2 days rebelling and eating way higher,…

Mine's completely open too. I make convenience food fit into my life, but am in the UK so all the brands you'll see are skewed to that...

From the linked news story... As everyone's mentioned, ABSOLUTELY FINE. All rides etc have design parameters, and presumably these are the maximum dimensions for safety on their rides. Helpful to publish in advance. Less fine. I bet they were just trying to translate the overall maximums down to average women's height, or…

I superset with exercises that work different muscles, as I generally try and fit my workouts into my lunch break. My trainer's helped set up the supersetting so that it doesn't impact on my big lifts, and it seems to be working well for me and getting me results. I used to do SL 5x5, and found the proscribed rest times…

22 Slightly above mid-range for my height, despite the fact I'm smaller than average. I think it represents that I lift, and am a bit more muscular than the "model" person that the BMI calculation is based on.

I think soy's fairly high in plant oestrogens. After our GP took my mum off HRT, she suggested increased soy consumption to boost my mum's oestrogen and minimise menopause side effects. Seemed to work quite well. The OP's profile lists female, so maybe less of a concern in this case!

I'm a tiny bit shorter than you (5' 5.5") and about a year into recomp. I'm about 60kg, and using calipers my body fat was measured as about 16% in May. I eat 1,900 - 2,000 calories a day (sometimes more), which seems to work for me, along with lifting heavy(ish) 3x a week. I'm trying to fit some yoga in too as my…

Waking Up Tired by the Hoodoo Gurus for me! But mostly a gradual light and a fairly friendly alarm chirp because I think my boyfriend would probably accidentally wallop me in an effort to turn the noise off otherwise. He's *really* not good at mornings!

I found it to be trial and error. The simplest recommendation I've heard is to start with an even split (33.3%/33.3%/33.3%) and go from there. It turns out I need more carbs than I thought I did, with my training day split now being about 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protein. Rest day I'm closer to an even split.

Just in case I need it, what was it under?! :p

I found that the best thing for my cellulite was lifting heavy weights. Years of being a cardio bunny did nothing for it, but switching my workouts to big, compound lifts with a lot of weight has made more of a difference than I ever thought possible! The elliptical isn't bad in terms of a general cardio workout - it's…

Two separate things here... weight and abs. Running a moderate but sustainable calorie deficit (food in is less than calories burned by generally existing plus exercise) will take care of the weight. Best results though consistency, meticulous logging on here, not running *too* big of a deficit that you can't stick to it,…

Even within brands it can be a bit of a disaster. Currently wearing American Eagle skinny jeans which happen to be a size 2. Batkitten crazy. I'm not *really* that small, but they're my most flattering jeans. My American Eagle skinny chinos (same style, same cut) are a 4 and fit almost exactly the same. I think most of my…

I agree. I find I'm ok with relatively high GI carbs as part of a balanced meal, but I have to remember to try and control my snacks (I'm a 3 meals + 2 snacks person - works best for me) cause I do get all crashy if I have a high GI snack without adequate protein etc to balance it. Totally agree with the pop tarts v…

Oh how I WISH this was true for all supermarkets ;) That would make sandwiches, the entire bakery section and wine unprocessed foods in my local Tesco. As well as fruit and veg and, um, toilet paper.

I found the same! Introducing morning and afternoon snacks helped me SO much. And when I choose badly (like this morning... I should have learnt!) I really notice, and feel much hungrier much quicker + HANGRY! :s It doesn't work for everyone - some people prefer 2 massive meals a day - but it definitely helps me make…

Nuts are also good, but portion in advance... Sistema do teeny tiny clip-top tubs that are about the right size. I think I found mine in Asda. I can only take snacks to work one day at a time or I get through a whole week's worth on Monday. If you have more self control, Graze boxes can be quite fun! (Order online for…

Have a look for Arla 20g Protein pots then - with the yogurt. Both Tesco and Sainsburys carry them. Less than 150cal, pretty big, and the high protein means they're very filling. (And, really, you won't die if they're out of the fridge for a while. I routinely take mine out the fridge at home, forget to put them in the…

I think this might be the problem with these forums. Sometimes the responses are not entirely relevant to the original poster's question. Personally, I have learned the usefulness of a controlled higher carb "re-feed" (not cheat!) day to moderate (what I believe to be) my body's ghrelin/leptin response to my…

It works for me. It took a while to figure out a macro combo that balances my energy levels, satiety and my body recomp goals, as it's pretty much trial and error around a theoretical starting point, but I seem to be there now. Weirdly, tracking macros doesn't lead to the same sort of obsessive behaviour for me that…

If you're the only one eating what you're cooking, then it will average out as long as you measure what goes in. If you split something into 4 portions, but you eat all 4 of them, it doesn't really matter if one was a bit bigger or smaller than the other. When I lived on my own, I just used to log it as equal portions.…
