  • Please put your issues in perspective - for you, your current weight is a burden. For others, it could be their target weight or close to it. Calling yourself freaking huge doesnt do those people any favours. We all struggle, but we can be kinder to ourselves and others by acknowledging that our weight has gotten the…
  • That reminds me of an oldie but a goodie - have you ever smelled moth balls? How did you get their little legs apart? Guffaw, guffaw....... I will probably be disciplined for that.
  • Yes, I have seen some of your meals in the database, and can see that your method would be useful.
  • I think this is basically Intermittent Fasting (IF) with a fancier name and lots of people (me included) do a version of it. Of course, we naturally fast when we are asleep, and thats my rhythm - I go to sleep at night, and dont eat until at least noon the next day, which works out to about 12 to 13 hours later.
  • I use a lot of recipes from my favourite cookbooks, and they give the recommended number of servings. so I weigh out what is a serving - I weigh the whole dish, divide it by however many servings the recipe says it makes, and then I eat one serving. So if the whole dish weighs 800 grams, and serves 8, then I eat 100 grams.
  • [If you really wanted to make the point, you could offer to drop him off at the steakhouse and tell him you'll pick him up when he's done. Better yet, dont' tell him this until after you're there. If he really did ask you to "take him to the steakhouse," then take him. Don't get out of the car. Tell him "I'll be back in an…
  • I remember asking my mom if we could try a diet using a little candy called "Ayds" - the theory was that eating this would take the edge off your appetite and then you wouldnt eat as much at mealtime. I was 9 years old - 51 years ago. So I have spent 51 years trying to manage my weight in one way or the other, and finally,…
  • The most obvious one that springs to mind is if you really want something, and more than three bites, simply figure it into your daily calorie budget and enjoy it. I pretty much budget everyday for something that I consider a treat. Nothing is off limits, because I know if I want it, I can find a way to fit it in. If I…
  • Yes, I agree - life is not fair. if it was, I would be taller, thinner, blonder and have green eyes. But it aint gonna happen! I do look at the cake stuff too, and also try to figure out how to make it lower calorie. I even go so far as to import it into the MFP recipe builder, just to torture myself with how many calories…
  • My goals are to continue to lose weight for a few more pounds, and to eat in a manner that gives me enough protein, carbs and other nutrients to enable me to live the life I want to live. With those parameters in mind, yes - I eat what I want every day.
  • In my city, there is a pretty elitist university, and every year they do a sleep on the streets thing, which is similar to this project. I have mixed feelings about it - it is unlikely that if one graduates from this school that one would really anticipate having to live on the streets, so its a pretty artificial…
  • Its a shame that at 23 you are already worried about getting older!! Let me tell you sweetie - I'm over 60 and this is the best stage of my life. My metabolism is just fine thanks and I have lost over 100lbs. I think you have a looooooonnnnnnngggggg way to go before you need to spend another second worrying about this!!
  • For me a normal range was too too too hyper - I was edgy and would burst into tears at the slightest provocation, couldnt focus on things, couldnt control moods - I was clearly not right. Had a check with my doctor and she adjusted downward and its like I am a different person - looking at my test results one would say I…
  • If you are that sincere in trying to lose weight and that frustrated in your earlier, and not so successful attempts, then I would definitely get a small scale, carry it around with you and start weighing food, because it appears you are eating more than you think.. if people look at you funny, say you are doing an…
  • I bring my lunch 99% of the time. I eat with my colleagues cuz I like them. Sometimes we go out, but they always let me pick cuz they have seen me lose a lot of weight. About 7 years ago, I had a colleague who had a boat moored in town. Every once in awhile in the summer, we would go to KFC and get a 3 piece dinner for…
  • I have lost over 100 lbs and didnt do a lick of exercise due to medical issues. I also have been on thyroid meds for 28 years and still lost weight - once your levels and meds are at the right level, your thyroid wont be an issue. Saying you "eat clean" is meaningless, because there are so many interpretations, and it is…
  • I am a night time eater too - I dont eat breakfast (sets me up to be too hungry for the rest of the day), have a relatively light lunch and then chow down for dinner and into the evening. I budget my calories for this, and always have a couple hundred left after dinner for some cracker chips, some popcorn, some frozen…
  • I used to travel a lot - my best tip is dont be afraid to look like a bit of a princess - order a meal that is going to fit your needs, not just what is on offer for everyone - ask for substitutions. So specify that you want a grilled chicken breast, a mixed salad and dressing on the side. If anyone asks, say you have…
  • So many assumptions about other peoples mindset, preferences, motivation, abilities, physiology, as to render these statements completely irrelevant to reality. Unless you are seriously without any food resources whatsoever, or suffering from a wasting type of illness, it is difficult to starve to death in North America.…
  • Oh gosh, lighten up!! Its not personal - havent you laughed out loud at some of the comments?! EVERY KID EVER = dirty little meat sacks!!
  • "Binging" is not a healthy way to eat, regardless of whether you are vegetarian, vegan or an omnivore. Stuffing yourself to try to keep your emotions under control is not healthy, psychologically. Dont try to supress the emotion with food - just feel it! Eating wont make the situation any better, your day will still have…
  • Another thing - I have a friend who brings me back from Cambodia THE most amazing coconut candies - they are like a Werthers original, only coconut flavoured. I have to have one a day. I am not a candy fan (I prefer chocolate to hard candies, or jelly beans and stuff like that) but these are fabulous. My point being that…
  • Hunger can be just a psychological trick that your mind (and body) are trying out on you. If you think you are hungry, (at least, this is the exercise I try), ask yourself what would satisfy you? If its a carrot, or a salad, or a chicken breast, then that sounds like real hunger. If my head is telling me that my "hunger"…
  • As you can see, it depends on what liquid it is - I count coffee and tea because the cream I put in them has calories. I dont count water because it has no calories, likewise diet Pepsi - no calories. Wine, other alcohols, smoothies, flavoured waters or "energy" drinks - if it has calories, it is probably wise to count…
  • I am a not breakfaster! Two cups of coffee with sweetener and 5% cream is what I have in the mornings, my first meal is lunch. (oh wow - I just noticed I spelled thyme wrong in my post - how embarrassing!)
  • There is the "AHA!!" moment everyone wishes for everyone else to find. Its the moment when it all makes sense and is validated. Its the moment that you discover you can do this for the rest of your life. Congratulations, let the angels sing!!!
  • Yes, I have considered that, so in the summer when I am swimming, I record 60 minutes of casual swimming, meaning that I do not touch down during that time - around and around the pool.....................
  • Me too - for me, I think they taste like fudgy brownies
  • Avoid an all or nothing mentality, and avoid believing that you have to do this PERFECTLY, and that if you have one crappy day then you might as well give up and stuff your face. Avoid negative people, who dont lift you to your goals, but drag you down to self doubt. Avoid being made to feel like you are damaged somehow,…
  • I made a frittatta with 8 eggs, some broccoli, some asparagus and some mushrooms, oregano and time, and once done, divided it into 4 serves for my lunches this week. I dont mind eating the same thing each day. Next week I think will be chili or soup that I will make on the weekend, and portion out. Lots of my lunches are…
