I did it for a year. It absolutely works.

It seems like you're on the right track now. you're on an established progressive training program & eating just over maintenance. Stick with it.

^^That's Too cool!!

I've been doing Stronglifts 5x5 at home with this basic rig. There is also a simple bench. I follow the program with the phone app & seeing great results.

Put a scale under the bar.

Ever thought about bulk & cut cycles with strength training?
-
Yes. My back is way better since strength training.

Wow! Good catch!

I would stick to the program now. Be sure to start at the light weights that it starts you at. I wouldn't add the extras now. Don't get ahead. Once your weights start coming up, you will burn calories faster than ever.

Always log everything. Every day. If your'e prone to eating things that you shouldn't, log before you eat it.

Just a simple set up. I like the dungeon effect. I don't clean it on purpose. Keep it dark. Good stereo though. There's a nice adjustable bench. & somewhere in a corner is a homemade cable pull down that I am not currently using. This does Stronglifts 5x5 unassisted. I have to turn sideways to get the overhead press…

I'm in my 50s & making good gains. No supplements. Just do the work. Stick to it. You'll be great.

Ok. I hate to hear it, but I knew it. I am going to slowly dial back the calories a little at a time. Hopefully, this time I will look better at the lower bf percentages. We'll find out. Thanks everyone & thanks for the great article. It's just what I needed. Probably slowly start some cardio too. I really need that.

So, it doesn't make sense to try to ride the tide of gains any farther?
-
So, cut now? Lifting will retain earned muscle, but probably not gain while in caloric deficit. Right?
-
Wow! Thank you!

I'm 56. Been doing the Stronglifts 5x5 since February. It's going great. Making surprisingly good gains in strength & appearance. Go for it!

Bulking at 3000 - 3500. Lifting. Diary open to friends.

I found that as my lifting program got heavier, & I was really working for my deadlifts & squats, it got harder to keep the weight gain going. Its like I was burning it up. That's when the real strength & muscle gains started. I tweaked the calories up slowly over a month or so to keep the half pound per week average. It…

What is your exercise program?
-
Back off the cardio, get on a progressive weight training program with free weights. You'll eat.

Bulking this winter. (Maybe too much) Diary open to friends.

Set MFP to gain 0.5 pounds per week. Start an organised strength training program. Eat all you calories. Enjoy.

These are your 5x5 numbers or PR's?

I've been doing the program, following the app, exactly, since February. It absolutely works. ...However... I am now running into exactly what sgt1372 is saying above. My feet, ankles & knees cant keep up with the volume. I'm up to 225 - 5x5. I can lift it, the strength is not the problem, it just hurts. I'm sure I am over…
