In other words: Yes, basically, you are cross-country hiking if you're not on a main road/trail. My usual route circles a lake, and the first two miles in either direction are paved (it's 9 miles around the lake). I don't start counting 'hiking miles' until I'm off the paved trail and away from the jogging strollers and…

How fast did you walk? Was it all in one go, or were your steps broken up over the course of the day?

WOW! That sounds awesome! I doubt I'd ever try it, but what a neat challenge!

I disagree with the 'down on the 2 pounders' folk. They are training tools that are great for getting extra resistance doing aerobics, zumba-style dance, power walking, etc. They have plenty of places in the fitness world, but for building muscle, unless you're just starting out, they aren't going to do much. For using…

I wish I could help! I've heard good things about Diet-to-Go, but they looked really expensive for what they were. I looked into Freshology awhile back and didn't like any of the meal plans that I saw. I ended up getting a Grub Market Organics Fruit and Vegetable box instead. I still have to plan and prepare meals, but at…

I look at it this way- I might leave planning to go only 6 or 7 miles, but once I'm off the paved trail out in the hills, there is no water, no food, no cell-service. If I fall or sprain my ankle, or, heaven forbid, get more seriously injured than that, I'm going to need food and water, possibly my emergency poncho, etc.…

I think it's so awesome that women are being accepted as wrestlers now! When I was in high school, women were not allowed to wrestle. The girls who were interested in wrestling got be in the 'Wrestling Club" and took stats at meets, and the closest we got to the mats was getting to clean them and put them away after…

Everyone is different. If I'm going beyond 5 miles, I carry water with me just in case. Most of the time, unless it's hot, I don't drink much of it. Also, it really depends on speed- my 6 mile hike times run about 2 hours. I could probably go without water, I chose not to. (One kidney stone and you really learn a big…

My advice? (And for what it's worth, it's been 20 years since I was seriously lifting to 'get buff'), you don't have to go 'heavy' until you look like 'those too bulky builders'. Go until you're happy with how your body looks, then switch to maintaining that mass and fitness level. :) Heavy lifting, and doing the same…

Five months ago, I was where you are. :) I started at 180 and am at 163 now, with 33 pounds left to go to my goal weight. Take it in baby steps. Start logging everything you eat for a week. Once you can look back at what you ate, it's easier to see where you can make small changes that will have a big impact. Start asking…

Noise? Practically none of you keep the springs oiled so they don't squeak. Because you're on the trampoline jumping, the trampoline absorbs the impact. It's not like jumping on the floor at all. :) Depending on brand, it's about 3 feet across, but what I really liked about it is that I could tuck it upright against the…

Tummies just take longer. :( Not fair, but it's the truth. Core exercises, like Cody mentioned (not necessarily deadlifts and squats, especially if you have knee or back problems), can do a lot to tone the muscles underneath that layer of fat and make it look and feel better while you're waiting to lose, but there's no…

WOOT! Go you! Yeah, it's amazing what just logging for a few days can do for your perception of what you eat, how much and how you eat. I was stunned. I didn't think I had a bad diet before, but logging really opened my eyes to what could be so much better.

The problem is that drinks like Red Bull make you feel artificially full. If you were reaching your daily caloric intake and malnutrition wasn't a concern, that would be one thing, but you're asking why you can't manage to eat a healthy caloric intake. If you've cut back from 7 down to 1 then, yay! You're doing great!…

Pretty much what everyone else said. Start with smaller benchmark goals and work your way towards where you want to be. Don't make every goal about weight, but more about fitness and nutrition, and reward yourself for each min-goal you reach! You can do this. We're all here to help and support you. :)
-
A: Stop the Red Bull- It helps you feel 'not hungry' so you don't eat real nutritive food which is what your body actually needs. B: Try logging a day with foods you used to eat- Just add them to the calculator and see what it does to your totals. A bowl of pasta with sauce can be upwards of 1000 calories right there. To…

I did 1200 + half my exercise calories until I was out of the "obese" category. My doctor had me start at my regular intake, log everything, and then cut out 100 calories a week until I was down to 1200 base calories. I think if I had just suddenly slammed out my 1800-2000 calories down to 1200, I would have been gnawing…

WOOOO! Way to go!

And bras. I was out for my morning walk/jog and got about two miles out and realized that my boobs were falling through the bottom of my now too-loose bra. Good thing it was stormy and there was no one else out there today!

Yes, I'm sure that's it. Your scale hates you. Mine loves me (at least right now). Maybe it wants new batteries? Or to be rebalanced? Maybe you're just not showing your scale the kind of love and attention that it's craving? Are you spending adequate quality time with it, or do you just hop and expect it to do it's job?…

They go out. Kids aren't isolated in their rooms all day only coming out to eat. They will end up going to McDonald's even if behind their parents back. My mom always told us if we don't eat her food we can make our own and don't ask again. And teachers often give kids candy and other junk food as rewards for right answers…

Sometimes, though, you can lose the weight, feel fabulous and something comes out of nowhere and knocks you down, and the bad habits come sneaking back. For me, it was a serious injury compounded by the fact that the injury came while helping care for my dying brother. His death rocked me on so many levels, and then…

I tried this awhile back and I don't know if I did something wrong or what but mine came out like bricks. Thick, hard, nasty bricks. My husband and I both agreed that making a pan of real brownies and freezing them in individual snack-sized ziplocks so we could only eat one at a time made better sense.

Ooh! Thank you! That's smart! I'll do that in the future.

Wow! Look at you! Fantastic!

I bank exercise calories for the weekend, but I know that isn't always practical. It comes down to making smarter decisions. For me, if I'm out with friends, we tend to order a gazillion appetizers and it's really easy to chow down a bunch of fried cheese and chicken wings without even realizing I've done it. I've taken to…

The water weight thing happens to me- I just record it and move on, knowing it's hormonal.

Oh, and Oreos? Chocolate Cookie- Creamy Middle- Chocolate Cookie. Anything else, like pumpkin flavored, or cake flavored, or caramel? That 's heresy!
-
I'm mad for hot cocoa- whole milk, real cocoa powder, real sugar. If I don't have the calories left for that, a square or two of good dark chocolate, or a few dark chocolate chips with walnuts will do. I like Oreos but to me they're kind of a special event thing- like my family's annual trip to Whidby Island, I'll eat…

French Press: Dark Roast, preferably a good French Roast. If real cream doesn't fit in your daily allowance, I've found the International Delight creamer to be pretty good. (The almond milk creamers are chalky- yuk.) But here's the thing. If you don't like it, don't drink it. Caffeine is one of the hardest habits to quit.…
