I have the same problem- I work from home, and on days my husband is home, all my best plans go out the window. I've found that if I just plan one day as a splurge day- Saturday morning brunch is popular in our house- and one meal out where we can both be responsible for our eating, I can manage to stay pretty much in my…

Three evenly spaced, well-balanced meals with small portions, and then a snack later in the evening works best for me. A little meat, a little carb, a little veg or fruit. Sometimes, a big salad with dinner to boost my veggies for the day if I've been fruit-heavy. I know some people do like five little meals through the…

I eat everything but about half of my exercise calories. Seems to be working so far.

I find watching CSI or Bones usually helps with hunger. I'm considering writing a book called the "Crime Show Diet"... It will notate all the gruesomest scenes and the record times so if you aren't actually interested in the show, you can just fast forward to the maggots and the autopsies, along with the length of time of…

This is why, if you're a runner or walker, it's important to alternate being on the treadmill with being on natural ground. Natural ground, sandy conditions, wet conditions, mud, elevation changes, etc, all engage different muscles to help you maintain your balance and move you forward, while a machine like a treadmill or…

I eat back half my exercise calories per MFP- What MFP gives me per activity seems to be consistently about 100-110 calories over what my Garmin gives me. For example, according to MFP, my 90 minute power walk this morning gave me 440 calories, my Garmin says I burned 336 calories. I figure if I eat back 150-200 calories,…

Remember that your 'activity level' doesn't include your intentional exercise, ie, your elliptical time. It only includes what you do during the day as part of your normal activities. :) Intentional exercise is counted separately.

That's pretty much what I do, too, especially when it's not something I'm planning on making again so it doesn't make sense to do a recipe. For big-batch things that I freeze portions of later, recipe builder is awesome, but, for example, if a friend gives me some organic grass fed beef from their ranch, for example, I'm…

Dang! NICE!!!!! Isn't it awesome to feel like you're living again?

So wait: Your BMR is 2000. What is your TDEE? BMR is the base calories that you need to stay alive. TDEE is your Total Daily Expenditure- how many calories you actually burn in a day. You want to be eating calories between your TDEE and your BMR number. With that much lifting and an active job, are you taking your…

Are you walking a lot? It won't take the fat off, but it will tone the muscles underneath and help 'shape' things a bit while you're waiting for the fat-loss to get around to them. :)

I worked in a professional kitchen for a long time and am the same way about estimating most things. At least popcorn is like, almost nothing for calories. I think it's what? 25 calories per cup? It's not like my husband (who is a physicist!) being sure that his ice cream scoop was '4 ounces'. It was 7. :)

Aw, thanks for this thread! :) | Honestly, I normally don't feel too deprived most of the time, but there are times when it feels like such a balancing act. This thing where I go out and powerwalk for six miles on hills and get... 280 calories, while my husband comes with me and says, "Hey, I get an extra 600 calories for…

Honestly, you'll probably be fine at 1200 calories to start, but after losing 10 pounds or so, you'll realize that you're hungrier and need a little more food, especially if you're exercising. I started at 1200 and was there for 3 months, but was told by my doctor that I'd want to raise it after I was out of the 'obese'…

Hi! Yes, this app works and for everyone! But, it works only if you use it. Log everything you eat, eat your calorie allowance and try to throw in some walking to get started, and you should see a difference.

My rest days are my 'fun activity' days, when I go bird watching, or take my friend's kids to the amusement park, or what not. They don't have to be sedentary days, just days when you let your hard-worked muscles take a breather. :)

Go to a doctor. Chiropractor can help with a course of treatment but get a real diagnosis with real imaging before they start adjusting things. Especially if you're in nerve pain, seriously, don't mess about with it. Yes, it feels great after an adjustment, but if it's a herniated disc, for example, not a sacroilac joint…

I remember my first shower after back surgery- I had to have my husband turn the water on for me because I couldn't reach it! CONGRATS!

Sounds like you're where I was six months ago. :) I sent you a friend request!

Yup this, SOmeone who doesn't have any kind of metabolism problem doesn't/won't/will never get it. "No flow chart needed"... obviously it's needed or it we wouldn't have one. (I love flowy-charty!).

I'm cheap about my fitness gear. I don't know if you have a used fitness gear store near you like Play It Again Sports, but it's usually pretty easy to find bars and plate weights used and inexpensively, as well as the blocks, because many serious lifters outgrow their sets and upgrade.

It really works for some people and doesn't for others. I think it depends on your body chemistry and isn't a one-size fits all answer. For example, I do better with small regularly spaced meals during my waking hours, with my calories evenly distributed. But there are a lot of people who do the 16-8 and swear it works for…

I do my hula hooping and weight training in front of the TV. It's to the point where I feel like if I want to watch TV, I have to work out!
-
Breakfast- Cold cereal or toast with peanut butter, milk, orange or apple juice. Lunch- We didn't have school lunches at my high school, so lunch was usually last night's leftovers warmed up in the lunchroom microwave. Dinner- My older brothers and sister had all moved out over the previous two years and Mom hadn't…

The recipe builder on MFP is awesomeness! Oooh! I like the 100 grams serving idea- Might have to try that. I've been trying to do it afterwards, when we sit down at the table.

Today, I am curled up with hot pad and a bottle of Pamprin. Anyone who wants to call me a wuss is welcome to! ;) I am also seriously craving chocolate, and if i can hit my protein numbers without going over on my fats and carbs, I fully intend to have a big cup of hot chocolate later. By the way, this is NOT how I wanted…

MFP scolds me if I try to finalize my day without hitting at least 1200. I get migraines once in a while and sometimes I just can't eat very much. You can go in to your 'goals' section and set it manually to a higher intake, a healthier one. You can try some of the BMR/TDEE calculators online to figure out what a healthy…

BWAHAHAHA! Yeah, cats don't care all that much about holidays unless it involves tuna.

Fabulous dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant last night (I 'saved' cals for it all week, but still didn't manage to go over my daily allowance because I just can't eat like that anymore!). Tomorrow, sleep in and I'll make us brunch (with heart-shaped pancakes, maybe) then maybe go for a walk at the lake or down at…

Good wine, but I also used to make mead. I've got a few cases left, and sometimes a girl needs a bit of mead. I'll probably start mead-making again some day, but right now, honey prices are through the roof and a lot of my equipment needs replacing.
