I try to always drink a glass of water before I leave so that I know I'm not going to mistake thirst for hunger. Like someone else said, start with a salad, and that way you'll eat less of your entree. Our favorite Greek restaurant now knows me well enough that they deliver a to-go box with our entrees so I can box up half…

Yeah, I think more than anything, the study done on the Biggest Loser contestants should serve as a warning- Lose slowly in a healthy manner and take care of your body so you don't screw up your metabolism. I've seen so many people on here trying to eat 600-800 calories and exercise 8 hours a day asking questions about…

I just give my body what it wants. My body is trying to tell me that it's in need. I eat at maintenance those days, and if my body wants some chocolate or some steak, I just eat them. I know when my period is going to happen, and I can squeeze in extra exercise before and after to compensate. It's just two or three days.…

I was up at midnight for nonfat greek yogurt with fresh cherries. :)

Take a small salad-size plate, not a big plate, fill it with your favorites, and then eat ONLY what's on your plate, and only go back for a second helping if something was that tasty and you're really that hungry. When we're in Vegas, I'll often finish my little plate, and then look at the line and decide that going back…

Nonfat sour cream lets you use a lot less cheese and still get that tasty creamy yuminess without the fat. I also recently experimented with using the Ancient Harvest lentil pastas, since my partner is pre-diabetic and needs low carbs/high protein, but they seem kind of dry and gummy no matter what I do.

WHAT? One month? My Photoshop class for my web design program was an entire semester! I was ripped off!

Went to bump the laundry door shut with my hip... and missed because my hips are a lot narrower than they used to be! Gonna have to put an auto-closing thing on that door.

I started at 179 in November 2015, I was at 172 when i started MFP in end of December. I'm 151 now: just under 30 pounds lost, just over 20 more to get to my goal weight of 130. When I started getting serious about my fitness, fifty pounds just seemed impossible! I started with 1200 calories a day + half my exercise…

Not true. I was 4'8" when I was 13 and started. I was 5'2 when I finished high school, and grew two inches between ages 18 and 24 to end up at 5'4". (However, with spinal surgery, I'm now 5' 3.25", So, I've shrunk.) But expecting a late growth spurt at 26 is a little too much. Wear heels, get your dress altered (Hems are…

I weigh weekly. The trick is to realize that the scale is just a tool. It tells you what it reads. It doesn't know if you lifted weights yesterday and might be retaining muscle-water. It doesn't know if you're starting your period, or ate a salty burrito, or have belly button lint. All it does is tell you what it sees. The…

I feel your pain! I grew up in a small town. Do you have a circle of friends locally that you can set up a monthly clothing exchange with? We used to do that, and it was a lot of fun. Everyone brings what they can't wear/don't wear, puts in a big pile and then everyone has a blast trying on different things. It's not only…

I wonder how the pork recipe would work with red cabbage instead of green- Can't imagine it would be pretty, but probably quite tasty!

You're struggling with the 'image' of weight loss and your perceptions. I get it. What we all see as an insanely high rate of loss, you're seeing as 'not enough'. It's discouraging when all you see is what's in the mirror. Please, be assured that you are losing too quickly, and need to slow it down- aim for 1.5-2 pounds of…

Everyone else has already said it, but the key word is malnutrition. Anemia, calcium deficiencies, protein deficiencies- as others mentioned, hair falling out, fingernails getting brittle, exhaustion, hunger, mood swings, acne, skin dry and cracking- all those things come from malnutrition. For the average woman, less than…
-
Same here- Sadly, my doctor informs me that now that I have insurance and can afford it, it's far too risky to have them removed. I get to live with it. Fortunately, great nutrition and improved fitness means I'm having far fewer problems. As to your original question- If you aren't feeling well, don't work out. It's an…

Ooh! Awesome! Thank you!

The thing to remember about Atkins is that it was never designed for people with just twenty or thirty pounds to lose. It was designed for people who are critically obese, and need drastic measures to reduce weight quickly without depriving their body of the fats and proteins that it's used to consuming. I tried it as part…

Not to be discouraging, but something to keep in mind is that bone needs calories to heal. Eating at too steep of a deficit might actually be slowing your healing process. Instead of trying for 2 pounds a week, try for one pound, or even just a half-pound. (I had to learn this the hard way back when I was a dancer and…

My tips for eating out: Ask for a take-out box up front and box half your meal for leftovers later in the week. Order a green salad starter, no dressing. By the time your entree arrives, you will feel less hungry and eat less of your entree. Drink a glass of water before going out, so that you're well hydrated and don't…

After my spinal surgery, all I could do was walk and swim. I started at 20 minutes a day and worked up to 2 hours a day. I don't have time to walk 2 hours every day with my current schedule, but I try to do at least 5 miles every other day, or get to the pool for an hour. I just bought one of those Gazelle striding…

Pretty much what everyone else said- It comes down to personal metabolism, fitness level, etc. What I burn on a 1 hour walk won't be the same as what someone else burns. I took to wearing my hrm for nearly everything for a couple weeks, and now I have a pretty good idea of how much I burn doing what. Some of MFPs estimates…

WOOT! Way to make a fashion statement on your ride! I took three bags of too-big clothes to the donation center today. Three bags. I'm starting to run out of things to wear!

Someone awhile back posted an AWESOME post about why your body needs more calories when your menstruating, and why you're hungrier. I figure, two days out of the month to help my body through a rough time (I have hell periods) isn't going to knock me off my goals, and I try to get in extra exercise before and after to make…
-
I went the opposite way- I've always had hellish periods and mine have only gotten worse as I've lost weight. :( People will you exercise helps, but it's really hard to exercise when you're curled up on the floor unable to move. I asked my doctor and he suggested that my body's hormone production was trying to keep up with…

Walk. Just walk. Walk every day, twenty minutes, thirty minutes. Being ill puts us out of touch with our bodies, drains our energy and makes us want to comfort eat. Just walking a little bit every day will help you start feeling your body move again and remind you of why you started this journey. Small steps to recovery!…

People have a huge problem with the term 'starvation mode', and will instantly scream about how ignorant it is to use the term. The fact is that it was a recognized term for homeostasis in dieters throughout the medical and nutritional community until about a decade ago, when people took issue with the term because it…

2 pounds a week is very aggressive. As you get closer to your weight goal, you'll find that your weight loss will slow, and often those last 20 pounds come off a half or quarter pound a time. It's often better to start slightly lower goal-wise, and do what's sustainable long-term for your body. The weight didn't show up in…

I had dental surgery last week and while most of the stitches came out yesterday, I'm still on soft and liquid. So, yeah, today I've had nonfat Greek yogurt, apple sauce, an Ensure drink and a V8. I'm planning an exciting dinner of turkey meatloaf and boiled zucchini. :(

What always scares me is how suddenly it can come on. I can feel fine, and then bam, suddenly I'm in pain. It's really terrifying. (Oh, and corn is another common trigger! I don't have a problem with it, but I know several other sufferers who do.)
